Why would we patriotically cheer on the WELLINGTON Phoenix?

Phil doesn't get it - people cheer for Welly because of civic pride, not "patriotism". We cheer the All Whites because of patriotism (as opposed to Steve-O whose civic pride trumps his patriotism )

Prob off topic but tiring of the Auckland city guys pushing the point that wellington phoenix is not full of NZers.....we know ...get over it coz we still support them!!

with fear of causing you heart palpitation (those that push this point -sorry to the others) : Auckland city NZFC club is not full of Aucklanders !!! - in fact looking at the players per the site:

9 born in Auckland
8 born in NZ but NOT Auckland
..wait for it .... 13 NOT born in NZ!!!

so lets give it a rest and just recognise that we, like all suporters around the world support the club not simply because of where the players come from but who it represents ... WELLINGTON !!! and we are happy from a NZ point of view that others in NZ get enjoyment from a NZ financed, and licenced club doing well.

Still, I want my adopted homeland to do well, but not at the expense of the Phoenix.
 
I would also back my club side at home before the Scottish national team, and I this is a pretty common attitude at home. Perhaps it's different here because of the history etc though.

I am in full agreement with you Steve-O, (except I'm an NZ'er - mostly).

B*gger! I'm not a Kiwi, I'm Welsh. Does that mean I'm not allowed to support the Phoenix?
I support my local team, I also follow Stockport County in England, & Hearts in Scotland, by your logic Mr Bean, I shouldnt support those teams either! Do I detect a hint of the green eyed monster, due to the fore-runners of the Phoenix being based in Auckland & being exceptionally crap.

Good luck for the finals guys from a devastated Glory fan who made the trip over!!
I would say 99% of us will be cheering the Nix on to the grand final.
Loved the city,the people,the cafes and chicks......I mean bars!!
Spoke to a few YF guys and mentioned if you do make the long trip west look me up and I/we will look after you.....cheers!! ( not i that way of course)

Always good to hear from fans from afar. Glad you enjoyed yourself mate and hard luck not making it. Perth would have beat Gold Coast or  Jets imo. Good luck next season.

Oh, that part doesn't really matter, it's an optional extra.  Disruptive, too, taking so long.

Not as bad as a mate who flew back from Auckland in time for the game, had babysitter organised and got to game in time for kickoff, only to realise that he had not accounted for extra time - the babysitter was organised until 7 and she had to be at a dinner by 7.30 so couldn't extend.

Got a great send off as he left the ground after 90 mins. watched pens on tv at home with the kids

I watched the replay on Sky the same night when I got home, that replay went right through extra time, penalties and the interviews post match.
