very happy with the game. One thing only I would say: couldn't Rojas come on after 75'? we were 2-0 up with an extra man. I can understand resting Greenie, but if we don't give our youngsters time to mature, they're all gonna end up leaving like Kosta.
I am not having a go: coach is there to make sure we win games, and that he did so full marks. All I want to say is that Rojas is hardly going to have an easier, more secure situation to slot in that he did tonight.

Well, then why was he on the bench? What if we had to use 2 subs earlier due to injury or whatever?
I went to the beach today and saw McAllister swimming with his family. Maybe he could have been on the bench instead? Or Pavlovich? I think two of the three (including Magic Marco) played yesterday, or maybe they all did.

I still think he could have played 15' with no man marking him.
But anyhow, glad to see him involved with the first team.

Ifill can make such a difference to our team. What couple of goals! Lia, Brown were excellent.
Siggy and Muscat were awesome.
Hearfield did very well defensively but not too well going forward. I think he needs to back himself a bit more and have more confidence. He has a heck of a boot on him, why doesn't he get in better positions and have a crack at goal??
I reckon if he did he could easily get 3-4 goals a season as well as giving our strikers a few goals when the keeper spills it.

If Rojas came on and his experience cost us the game everyone would scream for Ricki's head. Wasn't the time - was a do-or-die kind of a game and we were playing well/getting confidence for the first time in months.

Also, Hearfield -as a fullback - is a defender first and foremost. If he doesn't attack that well, fine, but it's more forgivable than if he defends poorly.

My mistake - I thought he was one of those brought off after about 56 minutes.

Still, I think he'd be capable of playing 2 minutes tonight, whether or not he'd played last night!

He was capable of 30 more seconds, IMO.

I thought we would have won this by more had Greenacre been there ahead of Daniel. I like Ifill up front in the middle, but there were a few times when we just needed a goal poacher to capitalize and put the decent crosses away.

Putting Greenacre in for Daniel would've changed the entire shape of the team though.

This is true, and I like Ifill leading the line. I guess it just showed not having a genuine striker in there.

The only problem with that logic is that the guy playing striker scored 2 goals

But yeah i actually see what you're saying, just found that funny.

Good game, crappy train service, bus broke down at Plimmerton had to wait 20 or so minutes for another one.

My only wish was to see Rojas come on earlier.

Whole game was a bell curve for me, so am pleased. Azevo2010-11-25 03:07:06

Pivotal moment of the game came just before we scored. Siggy surged forward to the edge of the box and released North on the right. We did not score from that movement but, to me that was the first time we really pushed foward with pace and purpose. We did score within a minute of that but we did continue playing with that pace and sense of purpose.

Not wanting to put a dampner on things, but It is important to put it into perspectve though, Heart were very  very  poor but we still managed to give them three gilt edged oppotunities to score before we put one away. We gave away an awful lot of ball needlessly.

But by god, it is good to get a win back.

great to win, but as sthn says we need to be real, they were sh*t.....the type of game was established early with their foul within the first minute....great to see Ifill back in scoring form...still a few defensive concerns but a huge improvement in the attitude of the boys....to a man they all looked and played like they wanted to be there.

Daniel my biggest worry last night, pretty ineffective going forward, falls over everytime someone goes near him and is often very static when he does not have the ball

Don't change a winning line up for Saturday? Paston made two great saves just before we scored and that would have changed everything. We deserved the win though so well done lads

I thought that was a magic moment. The kids launched in to " Lets go Phoenix ,lets go".YF picked it up then applauded the kids for starting it.Just a nice moment.
Feel good moment no2;on the way out of the stadium , my little boy said" Dad , seeing as they won tonight , you could have a beer if you want"
DOn't want to get carried away , I thought Heart were crap but a win's a win.It did seem as if the desire and enjoyment was back . Please RH , leave Muscat where he was last night. He was very good and IMO is wasted as a fullback. One downer ; I still don't see what the love affair with Daniel is all about?
Still , WE WON.

As ever we seem to have, from reading this thread,  two Phoenix teams on the pitch at the same time. One is good and one is bad! Truly Phoenix are a remarkable side!!

Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.

Agree about Daniel, is it because he can juggle a ball abit and waves his arms around at the crowd?

My thoughts
Played better than we have last couple of weeks and the better team on the day won, but still room for improvement. Good to see Manny back in midfield. As pointed out Daniel wasn't at his greatest, but i would still like him to have another shot as he offers something different to Ifill & Bertos out wide (not just a a left foot). As much as i don't like Paston, he makes the saves so you can't drop him, and he has started catching the ball so thats good. Why give Rojas a token 1 minute run, surely could have given him a bit longer being 2 goals and one man up? Maybe some of the players looked in the paper and saw Ricki's comment saying we aren't a longball team.

Had a great time at the game last night ,who was the Arabic guy in the full yellow  Sheik costume ,just hope he turns up at every home game from now on as he  obviously made the difference last night !couldn't quite pick his accent but obviously from  one of the rich oil producing country's !

You have to get credit to Rickie....his head was on the block....things needed to be changed, he did and we got 3 points.

Still a work in progress. We were good in parts and very ordinary in others....but who cares. A win is fantastic.

I don't think we will see much of Pav or BigMac for a while. Probably also Greenacre. We still deliver a lot of ball in the air towards the front. It has been obvious that this style of play does not suit Greenacre.
Ifill has the strength and size and technique to be effective with the longball stuff. Last night he contested everything and won quiet a few.

Bugger about Siggy's yellow as he misses next game. Probably means Muscat back to RB.
