Any team with Elliott has too much Elliott.

I'd give Ifill some bench time, start Daniel and Bertos. Give Ifill a chance to put in a good half, rather than a very average 90 minutes.

A mate of mine - a season ticket holder - is staying home in protest of the bad performances because he's a sad sack piece of sh*t fan. The problem is think there are a few of these types of 'fan' out there. c**ts.

Thick and thin or f**k off all together.

Fuck this stupid game

Not real fans. I watched teams for years that were not good, but I still supported them.

To protest? That is so incredibly lame. It's called "support", win or lose.

Toronto FC fans recently organized a protest due to price gouging by the team ownership, season members being forced to buy tickets for the MLS Cup, and the general sh*tness of the team. Did they do so by staying home? Nope. They all showed up at matches wearing green (TFC wear red). Rather visually striking and got the message.

And of course it has to be said, "Victory did it first", with their sit-down protest a couple years ago (I can't remember the details).

Not showing up at the match isn't a protest. It's a cop-out. It's merely an excuse used for not wanting to go while still trying to pretend to be a diehard supporter.

They were terribly hard done by and persecuted by the FFA.

Or it could have been that the Police told them someone would die if they continued to stand in the third teir of the TelstraDome and they refused to listen.

One of the two.

                         Elliott Manny
         Ifill                                   Daniel

                      Pav       Greenie

pasty,brown,ward,leo

whatever we do someone has to go from midfield and tbh I prefer Elliott to anyone we have at the moment bar Manny in Midfield. No more pissing in the wind with longball, we need to be passing to feet, we can do this I have faith!!!

North Siggy Durrante Musa
Hearfield Muscat Elliott Ifill
        Greenie Pav

Hearfield and Muscat to add bit of pace and energy to what has been a pedestrian midfield.

Playing two upfront will make it that much harder to crowd out Ifill and give him a touch more space.

Greenie deserves a break to play with some support and Pav will add a bit more pace and energy as well.

Musa to get a run at left back, only reservation about this is having Ifill in front of him could leave him a bit exposed, but Ifill is an experienced pro and if playing in a 442 then knows his job.

Vuko in for Paston purely on basis that his distribution in my view vastly superior and we cannot afford to give away possession as cheaply as we have been doing.

Mac Needs a extended run, Pav has looked busy but has not made the most of the oppotunities he has had to date, Ifill in because despite being crap recently, he is the best player we have by a country mile.  Daniel, lucky to have a bench spot. He has been consistently getting20 - 30 mins but return has been poor.

I am sorry guys, but that's not how it works where I come from.
Rule 1: You love your team no matter what filth they're involved in/how crappy they play. You may try to convince a die-hard Casertana supported (3rd-4th tier of Italian football) that any seria A team is better than theirs. Nah, they will say. My team is the best in the world and I will always support them.

Rule 2: When a team doesn't live up to the expectation, you have the right to tell them. This can be done by throwing rocks on their cars (it happened to Totti only a few weeks back), by yelling at them when you see them in town and of course by booing them at the stadium, AFTER yet another disappointing game finishes. If you don't go to the stadium you lose this power. If you stay home you will be labeled as a couch potato or a "sunday supporter" in which case your opinion will be as important as that of your 100 years old grandma whose head is not quite there anymore and who lives in a rest home.

i'd *like* to see this:

             Vuko

    Siggy    Dura    North

            Elliot

Hearfield              Bertos

            Muscat

Ifill       Greenie      Pav

Reserves:

Ward
Daniel
Musa
Paston

I'd like to see Muscat move forward, mainly due to the fact he does play well in the Midfield, and i'd arguably say that he's been there most consistent, and well performing player in our team all season. Some minor mistakes of course, but generally pretty sweet.

He has a bloody decent cross on him, and with his defensive skills, he may just be able to slow up any attack, by defending from the front.

Musa on the bench to start to get him some game time, people seem to have been talking favourably about his performances, and surely we're going to need his in a fullback, or even center back role shortly.

Though, I do think that some protests of similar nature, Liverpool fans before the NESV take over, are not effective. Meeting at a pub, walking in unison with banners and slogans to the stadium and still purchasing a ticket/beverages that prop up the guys you want out. If you want change, hit them where it hurts - in the pocket.

Same with MUFC's green and gold movement, it's all very well protesting yet matchdays are sold out and keep the Glaziers in business, while the fans help pay off their debts.

f**k I get sick of the holier than thou attitude of most on here. If someone doesn't come to the game as a protest at how sh*t we are playing who are we to tell them you are now a sh*t person and we are better than you. If someone leaves a game early because they can't be bothered wasting their time watching the tripe we have been dishing up lately then good on them, its a personal choice and for people to suddenly think they are better than them because of it is a sh*t attitude.

Get the f**k over yourselves. People can support the team however they like. Its not like we have enough fans that we can cast off the ones we already do have because they left 5 minutes early or would rather stay home than spend 90 minutes bored sh*tless.

that's such a typical kiwi sports fan attitude bop. no passion for the team unless they provide us with endless excitment and winning. This is what happened to rugby, the fans supposedly got bored with the hard battling 6 - 3 results and low and behold super 14 manefested itself, same with cricket and 20/20.

Our team is struggling at the moment, on and off the park. We aint the only ones....I personally am happy with us as fans being upset and voicing it to the club and players alike, but I cannot accept that as a fan you'd leave a game early just cos youre bored? no matter how bad we are playing I for one will never leave early....I'll stand in silence as the team leaves, but leaving early just doesn't send the right message. Not turning up just makes the club financially worse off.

Personally, I don't see how staying at home, rather than going to the game, is "supporting" the team.

The bad thing is it will be another empty yellow seat.

Are you sure you YF types couldn't pack out the side across from the cameras?  Just for once?

Be a backdrop to all the action, not just feature in the occasional cut-away for a reaction.

Anything to get over that empty stadium look!

I think leaving early sends a much stronger message than standing their in silence. I don't do it personally but I wont cast dispersions on those who do leave.

I guess my problem isn't so much people getting abused for showing a lack of support its the attitude that if you don't conform to exactly this attitude, stay to the final whistle, clap the team off, and all the other b.s that people spout then you are not a real fan and that everyone else is better than you. I have seen people leaving early in the last couple of weeks that I remember seeing at the first pre-season game v Sydney, good luck accusing them of being sh*t fans.

I like your thinking buddy, and I agree, muscat would be quite strong in the middle of the park. Not sure bout hearfield, but guess hes needed to play a bit of a wingback role? I do think he could come out in way for another one of our midfielders though.

My only concern is that Ifill will still want to go wide and swap sides, and i would instuct Pav and greeny to both always stay central, so rather than Pav swapping, they just "slide" as Ifill swaps sides. This way, Greeny is always gonna have a man in support.

The biggest question I have is how do we get the best out of our squad? I think the back three system is the way to go, with siggys form and norths pedigree.

But how do we get the most out of Ifill in that system? he's got to be wide, but i don't like him as a 'wingback'... hmmm

Yes Hearfield is mainly due to his pace, and while not fantastic, he has looked ok going forward as well (needs to practice his crossing though)

I like the idea of Pav / Greenie central, Greenie working in behind Pav's height, and he simply needs more game time to mature and get better.

Ifill as a 'sweeper' behind Greenie and Pav would be interesting. Give him free range to wander and get wide, or come more central as he feel might be interesting to watch too, expecially if you had the confidence of someone like the Moosecat there to cover his switches as well.

I guess more of a 3-4-1-2 formation?

I agree Manny is wasted at the back even conisdering how well he fills that postion too.  May be Paul Ifill behind a front two?

I'm liking this. Still think Ward could have a part to play somewhere, maybe?

Its just the fact that I cant see Ricki dropping Brown and Lia the main issue. He loves Browny so much.

Even Mac in the front two wouldnt bother me to be honest.

Im interested in other systems teams have used with a back three?
I know Melbourne have employed one for a while, and have never really had a very wide team, but I guess our strength is our wide players.

I wonder if we could perhaps give our two "wingbacks" less defensive duties and just have elliot/ muscat dropping into the backline. This could give Daniel, Ifill, Leo all the chance to play naturally wide without much defensive duties?

spot on brother -I  was one of those that left early, and was at the sydney game and every other windswept game since - i left early cos I was frustrated and p**sed off -was I going to hang around and watch them trudge up the tunnel? they don't even make an effort to sign stuff for the kids anymore or high five the fever - even daniel has stopped this stuff
, it is like arguing with the wife it will happen but it doesn't mean you get a divorce but you still go down the pub to get away from her, and it is your choice how you support your team.

The images in there were quite interesting to me, especially when you see the back three vs a wide front three. Just reminded me of the all whites, solid, but little attacking ability

I've always found ti interesting how the three man defence immediately falls into 'wingback' mode.

I remmebr watching a clip on a well known coach (can't recall name and trying to find clip) saying that the dutch (from memory) used to employ a great implementation of the 3-4-3 where instad of using wingbacks, the wider centre backs also had played as right or left fullbacks in the past, so would push wide when the attack came down that flank.

To cover those players pushing wide, the defensive mid would step into the middle of the defence to cover, usually good when that player has played in defence as well.

Wish i could find it again...

I dunno I agree that it's not fair to lable people as not real fans etc, except for whoooo cos he deserves it, but really....a fan is someone who will live and die for their team, be there for every moment of their team's trials and celebrations....leaving early seems to me, to go against that understanding.

God Ricki is arrogant. Comes across like that anyway.

Interview with Telfer this morning. Billy Harris wrote a piece pretty much saying what everyone else thinks - no creativity, and all that - Ricki replies saying Billy knows nothing about football and his critics don't know what they're talking about. Then when asked about whether he needed to be more ruthless with his players he replied that "at the end of the day, I am the one that makes the decisions" and "my opinion is the only one that counts" and that "players have come off a brilliant World Cup and deserve their place and don't deserve the criticism". Yes, he has makes the decisions, yes, his opinion is the most important, but maybe he needs to listen to a few others. And the last comment just peeved me off. Miles Davis has been ripping into his showing in that interview the last 30 mins.

Both true. That's what he's paid for. Like all coaches, he will ultimately stand or fall on those decisions. What should he do, run a poll on here every Monday to help him pick the team?

"players have come off a brilliant World Cup and deserve their place and don't deserve the criticism"
This worries me more. The World Cup is history, players should be being judged on their current form, not what they did months ago. The likes of Paul Ifill weren't at the World Cup, so does that mean they CAN be criticised then?
