OK, no time to mess about, onto the next game.

Wednesday night match, short turnaround, and a few injuries from Sydney.

Paston most likely out with the hip injury, I think Bertos needs a rest.

I think Caceres will get game time, and I hope Costa gets more game time also.Ard Righ2009-11-01 21:43:23

              Paston/Crowther
Hearfield    Siggy  Dura   Lochy
Ifill       Brown      Lia         Daniel/Caceres
         Costa           Greeny

Bertos needs a break for me, Ifill back on the flanks with a roving comission. Daniel probably ahead of Caceres but will see how he comes out of tonight. If Paston is even 50/50 he should be rested. Hearfield for me at RB because Manny looks like a few of the others who have had the tougher schedules that he could do with a break.

But has come on twice this season (at least) and been deployed in the right back position.

If Ricki thinks he is I am prepared to back his opinion on this one. Though we seriously do need some cover for both LB and RB

If we need injury cover he 'can' play there.  With a three man bench you need to cut your cloth to suit.  That doesn't mean he's a starting A-League centre back.  He proved that a fortnight ago.

Mulligan is also not a right back.  I don't care how long he made a career of the potion in the UK.

Lia is the only other option

yes

a win and a loss is greater than 2 draws...just

3 wins and a loss makes it much better

Mully in the midlfield? Someone with an acutal shot from distance? and maybe something to prove...It would give our squad some much needed depth if he could prove himself capable in the middle of the park...

We would miss him in the centre of the park I think, would rather Mulligan or Hearfield started at RB.  Suspect Manny needs to unwind himself after tonights game!

I'm doubting that Muscat will be dropped tbh.

A win is required, ANY kind of win.

I'm flying up for this game so if we lose Terry owes me (the price of my tickets).  What do people reckon the crowd will be?

                    Paston*
Muscat  Sigmund   Dura  Lochhead
                   Brown
Caceres         Lia              Ifill
              Bertos     Costa

Subs:
Crowther
Daniel
Greenacre
Hearfield

*Even if Paston's injured I'd rather see him ahead of Crowther unless Crowther learns how to dive.

Greenacre's been mediocre for a while now.  Caceres played well the other week and Costa's earnt a start.  Other than that there's not anything particularly 'controversial' is there?

Leo Bertos as a striker? :)  That seems funny to me.

Bertos as a striker ?  Second only to Ferrante for the ability to miss in the league Bertos ?

I would say that on recent form the Jets frontline is more dangerous than most teams in the league. Bridges and Haliti have built a very good understanding in a short time since Bridges arrived, and you've got the skillful Song just in behind who can rip through defences. If we play with anything like the lackadaisical attitude we saw in defence today we could find ourselves two goals down in a jiffy (ie, a replay of last time we met them).

Having said that, without Milicevic their defence is vulnerable and the midfield is not being as ably controlled as it should be by Vignaroli.

It'll be a very tight and tough game I reckon.

it would be nice to see barbarouses start but i doubt it will happen.

Ok, its gonna be more tougher than we think I feel.

                 Crowther
Muscat Sigmund Durante Lochead
             Mulligan Brown/Lia
Ifill                                    Caceres
Barbarouses Greenacre   (the longest strike pair names in the league)

Gould
2 of: {Bertos, Hearfield, Rojas, Chen}
Brown/Lia

From what I have read, Mullign has been said to start this one, or at least get bench time. And I'm going to back this call, seeing as all the training games I have heard, him and Costa are the names that have shone out.
Wouldn't be suprised to see Hearfield Starting somewhere out wide and have costa still on the bench.
A few may  be rested though. Its gonna be a tough call getting the balance right

Buggar all considering it's 8pm on a Weds. Most wouldn't be home until after 10p and no good for any family.

Whats the lowest crowd number for the Nix?.....this could be a new low. i'm picking 4 to 5 thousand. Crap sheduling to play Sunday and then have a Wed game. They should have been down for a Friday night game to give them another 2 days recovery. At least the next game againstPerth is Sunday.
Sometimes 3 games in a week causes some teams to unravel under the pressure. This will be a good test of the nix's depth. Guys will be injured and will be carrying knocks. But they need to dig deep. 6 points in the next two games will see us looking good on the table

maybe no families would be nice for a change, a strong 4-5k in the FZ??

Yeah.  Every day game I have to restrain my kids from chucking plastic bottles at the officials or creating a lot of argie bargie with the FZ! Junior822009-11-02 11:38:17

Ok after a rethink, I reckon this could be a probable lineup: (or one that I would like)

                   Crowther
Muscat Sigmund Durante Lochhead
Hearfield   Mulligan   Lia      Caceres
                Greenacre Ifill

Gould
Bertos
Costa
Brown

Is Daniel unlikely to play because of injury? Or are you suggestion dropping him?

You might see Mulligan on the bench, but I doubt he'll start.  No real reason to park Brown either (missing a header aside).

Has there been any word on Paston's hip injury and how long he could be out for?
Permalink Permalink
over 16 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
Oh I'm just going by what I've read and also who I think needs a rest.
i think just give Daniel a rest because he's had knock and injury scares for the past three games now and we dont want to push him to far.  Also think bertos needs a chance to refresh. Wouldnt mind seeing him on but Hearfield and and Caceres both habe looked pretty decent i think.

Also Mulligan has been said to get a start, but maybe that was poor journalism, but if I was to replace one of Lia and Brown, it'd be Brown, because Mulligan offers the more agrresive attacking option which would be like Brown. I also think that would be a smart swap flor Ricki wearing his AW hat. Resting one, and testing out the other

Really hope its not too serious, otherwise I'm not going to be very confident with Bannatyne in goal

After never ever once on this site agreed with Costa getting a start, I will now say perhaps time is perhaps right soon if not now. Leo been out of sorts means Ifill can go wide on the right and Costa Greenacre up front.

I do like it...a bit

But confident with Crowther?

Crowther and Chen on the paddock at once is great entertainment value
