Agreed, the amount of passes falling short was high.
Seems to still be a phobia about the exploding ball in the 18 yard box too. Tell them not to be afraid!!!

According to Fred and Harry in the commentary box, the grass was a bit long.

Not going to say anything about the game, mainly cos I disagree with some of the things I've read on here about it and I can't really be arsed getting into that.

Bottom line for me is that a point's better than nowt, 3 would have been much better tho'.

Smeltz's miss had a touch of "That penalty" about it!! We really should  have buried Perth.

I don't know what is going on with daniel not getting a start or only 15 minutes to do his thing. Is it a personal thing with ricki? i hope not. Once Daniel did come on, the Nix looked a little more interested.

On the plus side - The Fever Zone was in brilliant form for the most part. A bit quiet in the middle but when you guys found your voice, you WERE LOUD!! Sounded great over in Aisle 13

Questions arising from tonight...

Why do people go the match if they are not the least bit interested in being there?
Why spend $50 to go to a match to talk incessantly about the $5K payrise you turned down?
Why does it take seven people to go and buy chips for a group of seven people?
Is the stadium registered as a kids daycare centre?

Another thing...I went to the toilet part way through first half. I've only stepped away from matches twice before EVER so, based on that*, expected the concourse (right name?) to be empty except for security people and maybe one or two chip buyers.  WRONG!!! There were loads of people about...having a drink together, having a chat. WTF is that about????  It's a football match. You go to watch the football!  I was "shocked and stunned".

and you know HarryP 1% of me agrees with that. That 1% of me also thinks we should vet them to check their interest level. If their level is low to non-existent than I suggest we put them over, on their own zone, on the far side of the ground in about aisle 1.

Took going a goal down for the players to start really giving a sh*t. Game wasn't quite as bad as some people are making out and the sack Ricki talk is rubbish but they've gotta be more motivated than they are sometimes. Credit to Bertos, he works hard and was our main creative spark for alot of that game. Hearfield doesn't have enough influence on the game to be the main playmaker but think he combined well with Daniel and I think Daniel should be coming in for Ferrante next week. Daniel and Bertos can be swapping roles and generally be giving the opposition defense a bit of havoc.

Willy, I think some expect EPL  quality football. Ricki is only the conductor, what the band on the feild do is out of his hands once the game kicks off. Ricki out? I don't think so Tim!

For the record - because no-one here seems aware of this - Daniel has been in ice all week and was dodgy even coming on as he did. Ricki said at the press conference that he would have started had he been able to.

Surprised that Bertos has been slated, I felt he was the only player that was prepared to run at anyone - in the first half he seemed to be the only player looking to take the game by the scruff of the neck.

I am surprised and disappointed by the negativity everyone is showing. It wasn't the greatest performance, but they showed heart after they went down and they worked hard - they'll need all of our backing on Friday night if they're going to beat CCM, and I for one will be giving it unconditionally - that is what fans do

Cheers Cnut for a bit of balance.. in fact Phoenix had several superb shots on target with some last-gasp saves from Velaphi and the Perth defense, and the Phoenix came back from a goal down to salvage a point...It was a bit frustrating at the ROF last night to not see them come away with the 3 points, but now that I've calmed down, seen the replay and highlights Phoenix certainly looked the better team. Roll on another Friday night at the ROF!!

Improving,,on the up, a work in progress from Italiano and the Nix. Bring on the bathroom bling in '24! COYN!

And again out come the nutters with the 'sack Ricki' line and negativity.... Some people will just never be happy unless they are moaning all the f**king time like Happy Ted

I haven't seen the game due to a work Xmas function and just catching the last 20 on the replay now so can't comment on it and I did have a rant lined up but I figure, like Jag, whats the point.

Thank you for a bit of perspective Cnut to shut the nutters up.

Definitely a disappointing result but we really did pile the pressure on at the end and could just have easily have won the game.

DON'T SACK RICKI.

I'm another who missed the game last night thanks to a work roster that seems to have me working weekends every time we have a home game. So I haven't seen the game and may not be qualified to make the most informed comments but the amount of negativity on this forum astounds me. Sure we didn't score a resounding win. As has been pointed out thoughgh, Perth aren't a team who are being thumped week in week out. We had our chances, we struck a goalkeeper posessed and unfortunately luck has not been on our side this week. Hopefully it will be next week, but after last week and our previous two games against Perth this season I'm happy to take a point.

Good to see that going a goal down lateish in the second half isn't a dead end anymore as well.

Great game to watch at the stadium and what a relief to come away with a point. We did dominate, but Perth had plenty of chances as well. Our top four hopes are still well and truly alive!

The ideal result today is Newcastle beating the Roar - if the Roar win it gets a lot harder for us. Remember, because of our poor goal difference, we will need to finish a clear 4th on points.

i was a little dissapointed we did not win but a point is surely better than none at all it just makes it a little harder for the rest of the games but hopefully the team respond to the extra pressure and get the results that count, the way the league is going at the moment with anyone able to beat anyone else all is not lost.i had plenty of time to think about the game on the drive home to wanganui and we could and probably should have won but that is the way football is sometimes.

Cheers Cnut, good call. I actually enjoyed the game. Ok the last 10 minuts were more intense than other tinmes in the game but it was good to see the lads having shots. The Perth keeper certainl kept them in the game. Having watched the second half on TV, I reckon we played better than I thought at the game. Sure it was a bit scrappy at times but after that other result, what an improvement.

Watched the replay and now that I have calmed down a bit I am less disappointed. Agree with Ricki though...that was two points lost rather than one gained.
The loss of Fred is a huge blow for us. Perth are an OK side but their defense sometimes is a shambles. with Fred organising our attacks we would have won by 2 or 3 goals. As it was I counted 7 clear chances on goal...other days we would have buried at least a couple of them.

its a real struggle for us to make top 4 now IMO. We are going to need at least 3 wins and a couple of draws out of the last 6 games. Not impossible but really difficult considering we have Adelaide plus Melbourne away as the last 2 games and we also play  CCM and the Roar who we tend to struggle against. Still we can't give up until its mathmatically impossible. this league is so close anything is possible!

This team is so FRUSTRATING. I spent 80 minutes wondering where the fight, spirit and passion had gone we saw a few weeks back.  Yet again underlines for me that this is not a top four team that still lacks confidence and self belief. We never go for the jugular when we have the chance. One point from nine against Perth is the proof.  Ricki left it too late again to change things around when it was clear things weren't working.  Fifth is best we can hope for this year IMO.

overall I am quite satisfied with the game. Perth are actually a decent side, they seem to improve each time we play them. We could/should have won yesterday, but if you look at the game chance-by-chance, they could have scored first and had they scored twice I don't think we would've come back.
Pity for the chances we missed: Smeltzy above all was very unlucky and a bit foolish for wanting to belt that ball in instead of just tapping it in. Then their keeper made one or two tremendous saves and at one point Topor-Stanley (who is actually a f**king git and a diver - he's 6"11 and as soon as you touch her she falls over) made a great save with a head-dive!

But, let's look at the positives: we went 1-0 down with 15' to go..and at least we recovered a point.
I think Hearfield didn't perform: he does'n't get stuck in, he doesn't really create many chances...I 'd have given Drapes or Costa a run. Smeltz needs support, and Hearfield didn't really deliver.

Did anyone say "Sack Ricky"? I think these people don't know what they're talking about. Without Ricky I am afraid the Nix would be much lower on the ladder. I dread the day that he'll leave.

I'm not being negative - Ricki agrees with my comment yesterday that we dropped two points last night.

I thought we played better than many of the posters here, It sounds as though they were at the game, and things obviously look different on TV/online. I thought we dominated, created opportunities, but too often the final pass/cross was poor. I always felt that Perth were capable of scoring against the run of play. It was frustrating as I thought we played the better football, and really deserved to win, not draw.

I'm with Jose's Dog, I think we'll finish outside of the playoff spots, as we're just not consistent or clinical enough to get the necessary results this season.

Just watched the last 20 minutes (I missed the game last night) and have to say we played some good football.  Jon McKain played really well and he looked dangerous.  Bertos was unlucky not to have buried a gorgeous shot in the top right corner as well.  I really hope Daniel is ok to play next week because he played really well.  His step over to get past Scott Bulloch epitomised how it's meant to be done.
