has to be a must win game. no question. ricki has to make some interesting and tough choices this week. will he leave out costa? will troy start? daniel? who will replace tim brown? and will durante secure his starting spot?

Fred De Jong said on Radio Sport this morning that he expected Doddy to shift into the Midfield and Dura take his spot in defence, god I hope not! I imagine Mickey or Plodder will start in Brownys spot with the other one and Jonno on the bench to provide a bit of defensive steel for when we go up 3-0 after 30. Otherwise team will remain the same I imagine

I heard that as well and was going to comment earlier but got sidetracked with this little thing I have called work, so glad you raised it.

For what its worth, Dodd is a very agricultural player, however he is successful as a CB in my opinion. However the defensive midfield role that he was slated to start in at the start of the season was tried and failed abysmally and I'm glad Ricki figured that out and left Dodd at CB where he has been more successful than at DM. Its no surprise I think that the change in fortune from the poor start to the season co-incided with taking Dodd out of the midfield. He can be a bit reckless with tackles and does not possess passing ability of a high enough quality of other midfielders to make him successful there so wouldn't want to give the Tards lot freekicks within goalscoring positions because they will make us pay.

It would be a very poor decision to put Dodd back there in light of his past failure especially in a 'no other f**king option a win is all that counts' match.

I suggest Christie in that DM role or Johnson. Not sure whom I'd use but for the love of god Ferrante is not a defensive midfielder so anyone that suggests that really needs to slap themselves for showing complete football cluelessness. Also its been one of our better games of recent and the 1st one he hasn't played. Wonder if there is something to that.

I want to see the same side as this week, with plodder in place of brown. He deserves a start, and would be a hell of a lot better than the failed Dodd experiment.

Allegedly

No!
If Ferrante were to play I would think it would indicate us playing with just the one d/m, McKain to sit in front of the back four an Ferrante and Daniel to sit in front of him. I still think Ferrante is our best distributor, a couple of occassions yesterday McKain or Browny would be on the ball and if it had been Ferrante they could have exploited a Leo or a Manny in a lot of space on the flank but they lack the range of passing skills Mickey has

Only change Plodder in for Brown.

Upper cuts for anyone who seriously considers Dodd as a central mid fielder and Ferrante frankly should consider himself lucky if he makes the bench based on his recent performances.

would it be fair to call this the biggest game in the clubs history or would have the pre season final been bigger

well lets hope we win 11-0 and then that won't matter

i'm hoping that Queensland get the three points and top the group so that Adelaide really push themselves to get back the number 1 spot.
If they are already top then a draw might be on the cards

Im glad to see all the optimism.
But I am still very worried about the game. Melbourne at home and their last game is going to be a very big ask.
The Nix seem to be getting out of the slump of the past two games and last night gave me alot more confidence in the team.
I think melbourne play a quicker pace of footall than us and keep the intensity for (mostly) the whole 90 minutes.
I am hoping that costa gets a start for this one too because He impressed me and alot others last night. He was quick on the ball and it was a breath of fresh air after the last games.
Im also hoping for a return of Durante. Because the Adelaide goal last night was due to some shocking defence. (McKain)

Good point about Tards playing at a quicker pace. That could be our undoing.

Seems to me that everyone plays at a quicker pace to us if i'm being honest

You have a point re Ferrante but he is not in form based on his last 3 games. I think he is an excellent distributor from the right half position but not as a central midfielder. I don't think he has many of the attributes required for a central midfielder, most of all, strenth as I think he is a bit light.

I think that comes back to the fact that teams run at us through the middle where as we tend to play a wide crossing game which seems slower.

I can remember Charlie Miller in the game against us were he slotted 2 and him steaming down the middle of the pitch with the ball at his feet thinking 'he's quite quick' then I had to slap myself as I realised he is actually a fat bastard with no pace at all.

And playing wide doesnt always work out for us.
I would like to see more attack in the midldle of the park. I am getting sick of crosses that end up getting headed back out by defenders.
And because we play a slower pace of football.. when we attack the other team has more time to track back to defend. if we have quick touches through the middle and get the pace up we will have more opportunities and hopefully spectacular goals.. ala Shane smeltz in the last home game againt melbourne.

Im hoping that made sense, I lost my train of thought at one point.

Lets not forget Melbourne aren't just playing for pride. They're at home and will throw everything at us to win their 2nd championship. I can't really see us winning it but one can only hope. If we want to win we are going to have to come out firing because if we go one down like usual there won't be any coming back.

Yeah Stefan you are right apart from Bertos and the occasional Hearfield cross our crossing is terrible.

Rememer that Adelaide can still lose to CCM provided that we win as they have a better goal difference. So I think we will see Vidmar rest most of his squad if we win.

Brown is a huge loss. The way to beat Melbourne is to shut them down in midfield as they always play through the middle. McKain has to have another brilliant game if we are to have a chance.

I could see us winning and then CCM - Adelaide being a dour draw because both of them know that is all they need :|

Yeah a solid 3-0 for the Roar would force Adelaide to win because if they just had a 1-0 win then Adelaide could still go for the draw.
