The first 70 mins was like men against boys.
We were embarrassing and were lucky not to be 4 down at half time. I know we came back in the last 20 mins but it seemed like we were in a trance .Brockies strike was great but I still don't rate him. Ifill just does not have the pace anymore.
The defending in the first half was a joke. Lochhead cost us two goals. One in each half.
Everyone this week has bagged Totori and maybe I am one of the few that believe that with the right guidance he could be very good for us.
Our next game will not be any easier.

Still don't see what people see in totori. Given he played in the part of the game when Victory played in first gear, he barely made a pass, and dribbled head down into defenders a half dozen times. That might work when Tim Myers is marking you in the Nations Cup, but not in the A-league.

we haven't beaten ccm in a couple of seasons. It could hurt.
I was so relieved we didn't get dicked 7-0 that I was almost happy at the end. Brockie's first goal was outrageously brilliant, worth hanging in there to see after the first hour of peer-beween-the-fingers carnage.
4 out of the 5 goals by Kiwis. Like it.

Wretchedly unhappy. I just can't tolerate a Phoenix loss. Which isn't ideal considering the Phoenix are only slightly more consistent than the NZ cricket team. Probably even worse when we play in Melbourne. Next week is already shaping up as a must win. And CCM for us is almost as bad as Melbourne away.
Hold me please.

I dont get it. The guy came on with us down 3 zip?
I think Steve-O showed why he is called Mr Consistency.
Rating: 8 - really on form for this game.
Some grat Assists from James Dean tonight too!
I was interested in the fact even the Ozzy commentators started advising the foul decissions not going the way of the Nix. Stein getting clobbered and injured - they believed had to be a card. ( He did not come back from this)This continued - Nix player pulled back in MV box, victory comes away with ball. This was either just before or after we were pulled up for the same offence.
Fox dropped replays of offside checking at goals. And not many of fouls. Is this a new directive to Fox Sport from the FFA to protect the Officials. Only time will tell.

Have to laugh at all the Totori angst, given the game was long gone before he even appeared. At least he seemed to be trying which is more than could be said for some of those who appeared before him.Manny was bloody near invisible yet buggar all gets said.
GET YOUR SHIRTS OFF FOR THE BOYS
manny, ifill both less than acceptable performances last night. we can't keep badgering on abpout the refs but yu'd think that after the horro show that was last weekend we'd not get thrown into a game controlled by a rookie. Surely the FFA didn't want anopther game where the haome team wasn't watched at all.

What was with the 'lets pass back to Paston and let him lump it downfield' tactics in the first half?
It was like, here you are victory, you have the ball, now see if your quick guys can get behind us.
I think Bertos caused some of the trouble down locheads side by playing the victory onside.
Proper score should have been about 7-4.
I mean, at least we did look dangerous when we finally got the ball near their goal.
Totori could improve, he needs to stop giving the ball away, but he wasnt alone in that last night.
Great substitution bringing Brockie on for the last 10 mins

I don't know why we are talking about the last 20 mins as being 'oh we finally played'. I look at it more of 'Melbourne dropped it down a notch or 3 to play more as a training run'. Had they kept their intensity for the full 90, there would have been no 'last 20'.
We were that poo, it was not funny.
Grumpy old bastard alert
very poor last night and all have to hold up their hands for that debacle....we managed to make the tards look like world beaters. i cnat quite figure out why we keep insisting on our wider players huging that touchline...evne when not in possession of the ball and leaving a gap in midfiled that you could drive a truck through...and other teams are!!

Tbh I dont think we can blame smith and manny too much when they were completely outnumbered and not given any defensive help from our other players.
However I think both had off games
We were very well beaten even though we could have almost snatched a point at the end and did miss a few good chances. In the end the biggest reason for our comeback apart from Brockie scoring was Ange taking off their three best players.
For me we were simply over run through the centre of midfield with their midfield being very compressed centraly and were aided with Milligan pushing into the midfield making it even more over run.
I thought we had a combination of two ways to combat this, neither of which occurred, being our two wide midfielders Brockie and Fenton squeezing in more centrally and Boxall playing a little further in front of Durante.
Anyway, a game where the final score flattered to deceive, but that was as good a half of football I can recall seeing from a Victory side. How often do we catch them coming back into form.!
Onwards and upwards , we only have CCM at home on Sunday, followed by Jets away and Perf away. Happy days!
On the positive side Herbert has acknowledged that 3 in the midfield changed the flow of the game.
On the negative side it took us going 3-0 down for him to make the change when it was too late.
He had to change it at half time, he has to take a lot of responsibility
Normo's coming home
We were rubbish in the first half, started too slow and too timid. The high defensive line was a failure but they kept playing high and getting caught out. I still can't work out what they thought they were going to gain by being caught out so often and continue letting it happen.
Our midfield and the wingers were too stretched and we didn't put any pressure on the ball. And holding back from making tackles that should have been made was frustrating considering Melbourne never hesitated in going through our players.
Maybe Perth are onto something. Maybe we need to nominate someone in midfield to go through people on a more regular basis.

Yeh and then when two defenders went to him on the edge of the box because he'd been taking on his man every time he had the ball he laid off to Brockie, for admittedly a wonder strike. Those first runs led to the goal.
That was the first time he passed the ball after one of his runs, and look what happened! I'm guessing that he's been able to run through defences for his entire footballing career so far, but now he needs get his head up and look for other options. Any player worth his position in an A-League defence will be able to stop a player who just runs directly at goal with the ball.

I can't understand the appeal of Smith, I find him quite ordinary. I think Aaron Clapham would be a much more combative midfielder for the Phoenix with better distribution. Also think Bertos is wasted at right back, his instincts are still those of a wide forward player. His best asset is still crossing into the box. You have to have a specialist back for such an important role, I'd be more inclined to put Boxhall at right back and push Bertos up.
I think Totori still tries to dribble, head down, through defenders too much, inevitably losing the ball. He needs to look for other options the way Rojas has learn't to. He is also knocked over too easily.
Good to see Boxhall, Fenton and even Boyd get good game time.
It is worth noting Smith seems a constant target for players looking to lump someone. The last few weeks he has been lumped a number of times. I don't think he has a combative style.
Manny could play enforcer if we need to harden up the defence a bit more when Siggy is off the field. Just ask Marco.

There is a time and a place to take someone on. Usually when there is space in behind the sole defender. Problem with Totori is he tries to take everyone one, all the time. So in the off chance he beats one defender there is still another 2 or 3 nearby.
exactly my point. If he was higher up the pitch against the last man then he would be a lot more useful
But doesn't that mean he's a dumb footballer for continually doing that? Still don't remember seeing him beat a player yet.
I'd much rather have a 4-3-3 with Lia, Smith, Manny in the middle, and Fenton, Huysegems and Ifill up top.
