Oh man that sucks about the some of the strikers not being interested in coming to Wellington. Ricki and Tony always said that there might be some news at the end of the European seasons. How close is that?

Now, apart from one or two games in left in the top leagues ala Prem, the only games left are promotion finals and European Cup finals.

Actually, some European leagues will be going for quite a while - Bulgarian league finishes in mid-June for example. Scandinavian and Russian leagues generally go through the European summer.

But since I guess we're targeting players in England, they should all be finished by the end of this month.

I was thinking of the main leagues that aren't effected by weather.

I still think we should check out some of the Eastern European/Scandinavian talent.

I'd take any talent from anywhere TBH.
this whole thing just shows how difficult it is to recruit players to this side of the world.
Europe, to many players is the centre of the football world. Thats where all the money and glamour is. To try and convince someone to travel to NZ to play pro-football is obviously very difficult.
Maybe we should have another look at South America. I know it is real hit and miss but if Europe is a dead end then maybe Brazil is an option. They certainly produce bucket loads of talented players.....you just need a heaps of luck that you find the right one.(for all  we know they probably are still considering brazil)

Yeah thats true. Its where everybody wants to be for Football. but i think what Tony and Ricki are doing is the right thing. Finding more mature, hardworking players who have realized that maybe they cannot compete or make that big break into the top european leagues. Greenarce said that job security was a big factor in his decision.I think if they keep dangling a 2-3 year contract to enough quality players, someones gonna bite.
Especially with the recession, squads are being decreased, and the chances of getting a quality striker who was maybe a fringe player in the championship/league one but would carve up in the HAL i think are pretty good. Thats just my two cents though..

+1, I think we need to just ask anyone and everyone we can think of and find, recruiting without an established scouting network and limited resources is tough and very hit and miss, the club just need to be confident, do all the homework they can and HOPE they find a gem.
You know we belong together...
