Well, what do you think??

Paston 7 More commanding, made a crucial save
Manny 6.5 Poor start, but grew into the game
Dura 7.5 His best game for quite a while, despite not being able to prevent the goal
Siggy 6 Sound, commited
Lochy 6.5 Actually covered well, for a change, one crucial challenge
Bertos 7.5 Did the business again
McKain 6 Worked hard
Ferrante 5 Should have scored, worked hard
Ifill 6 Too much time holding ball up but not enough in the attacking third
Greenacre 8 Great header
Diego 4 Disappointing, little impact
Daniel 6 Made a difference, great cross
Lia 6 Put pressure on them
Hearfield did well

Too hard / soft / just right?

Just right for me. Most people played good solid games.

Think Ifill deserves a bit more for his performance in the second half, would also pull Greenacre down to a 7. Agree with everything else more or less.

seems pretty spot on depending on how harsh you want to be considering how much they got domintated in the first quarter of the game

I'd give Daniel an 8 - he didn't do much wrong when he came on that I could see, and made some great passes. Can't do much more than that with 20mins of game time.

As an impact sub, he had good impact.

i'd bump ifill and mckain up .5 each

i think mckain had one of his better outings in recent times (hope he wasn't just trying to impress their management - i don't think so, hopefully he'll back up)

agree with all the rest, just these three I reckon should be changed slightly.

Dura 6 - seemed to struggle to me, seemed to be caught out of position a lot which forced manny and sigmund to cover, that goal was awful too, he was so off the pace - he should have done better to stop the cross/shot.

Ferrante - 4 if he's lucky, the only thing he came close to doing that was positive was the missed shot, he wasn't even in the game for the first 15 minutes and then when he touched the ball he simply passed it across or back to the defence. then there was the ususal attacking play where he lost posession.

Ifill 7 - he worked really hard to day, chased everything. struck me that Ferrante was supposed to be playing out wide as the left mid, be he drifted into the defensive midfield spot whcih meant either Bertos or Ifill were left out wide.

+1

I think Ifill did well in a more advanced role in the second half, and got some good crosses in. McKain also passed well today, and managed not to get booked.

Every one had up and downs through the game but overall a pretty solid effort from all.

Paston down a half for me - 6.5 - one good save, one good fist, but still had me holding my breath
dura - down at least a half 6.5 - better, but still cost us
ifill - up a bit - 6.5 maybe 7 - drawing defenders and great work rate till late
daniel - definately great impact and quality ball for the goal - 7

Paston - 6.5 - Not much to do other than a good save, couldn't do much about their goal.

Muscat - 6 - Attacked fairly well but was poor on defence
Siggy - 7 - Solid as always, I feel very comfortable with him in defence.
Dura - 5.5 - Agree with theprof, he's improving, but still has work to do, wish he'd come down and not hoof the ball whenever he gets it.
Lochhead- 6.5 - Also improving, nothing wrong and a couple of good forward moves.

McKain - 6.5 - Still hasn't returned to last season's form but covered well for a poor Ferrante.
Ferrante - 3.5 -  Wish it hadn't been him on the end of Ifill's ball, shocking attempt. Poor retention of the ball and needs to be replaced by Lia.
Diego  - 5 - el g is right, rubbish first touch and decision making. His reactions and movement were far too slow. Needs to perform better so Leo can get further forward.

Bertos - 7.5 -  Did well to keep the defence occupied and will be our driving force this year. Needs teammates backing him up more.
Ifill - 7 - Classy player and works hard, some great runs and crosses. He should be at 100% next week and I lok forward to it.
Greenacre - 7 - He's an incredibly hard worker and knows how to finish, memorable goal My Lord.

Daniel - 6.5 - No mucking around which is great, showed creativity and a terrific cross.
Lia - 6 - Should start, tough bloke and will bring so much more to the game than Ferrante. He could have been the difference for us last season.

Ricki - 7.5 - Knew that he couldn't be too attacking to start out but was willing to get the boys forward when it was required.

I must have kept on walking out the door or blinked when Ferrante supposedly lost possession all game, Though I don't remember getting off the couch, except for a beer
How did we dominate possession in the second half, through McKain?
Don't judge a whole game on one miss.

I thought Ifill was at least a 7, maybe even 7.5. He was the one truly consistent player for us today, except perhaps for Siggy.

Diego was a huge disappointment - barely did a thing right today. Kind of worries me. I think he's going to run hot and cold this season.

Hurrah for Daniel!

Agree with Royal,

We love to bag players on his forum, Ferrante missed one shot he should have put away, if that is the only marker for a performance, which it appears to be, the Bertos last year would have played 1's nearly all season.

Ferrante and Mckain are not only competing in the middle but dominating it for large parts. Now that cant be down to Mckain alone, after all he cant pass more than two yards, so someone i.e. Ferrante must be linking the backs with the forwards and wide players.

Like Oi Ois ratings, but would give siggy a 7, Mckain a 7, Ferrante a 6.5.

Diego definately a 4, he had a woeful game.

I actually thought both Mckain and Ferrante were very poor at times.

McKain was poor at times, but without him on the park we would've been screwed. Ferrante did ok.

Ferrante simply does not have it.

Other than hitting the bar once last season, I've never seen him do anything good.

How many times have you watched him?
Profile pic. Should you be interested. Lakhsen, on the right, lost touch with him.
Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.

I'll say it again because it irks me. I know there are better players, but....

It seems very shortsighted for a whole bunch of people on here to judge a player's entire game on one (very poor) miss and in Daniel's case to say he had a brilliant 20 minutes because he crossed the ball for a goal. Even judging someone man of the match (90 mins) because he scored (1 second) seems odd, even if he did play very well.

The midfield went ok and if everyone is to be believed then who played well? Diego got bagged on here, McKain got bagged by some and Ferrante's copping it as well. Must have been the forwards playing deep or the back four going forward cos someone in the middle went ok.

Everyone did their bit last night and I didn't see a poor performance, just some very quiet ones by some standards, but then I've only seen Diego play for us once before.
I voted for Leo as his performance wasn't quiet - it was loud, again

Daniel doesn't have a choice - he either has a brilliant 20mins or a bad one - how can you blame a player for not playing the whole game? He did more than just that one cross too.

I agree with you about the midfield though - I thought they went pretty well.

I realise Daniel did a bit more, but some would judge him on one cross, some judge a players performance on one goal and others judge a performance on one miss. I just like to appreciate a bit more than that at times.

Last night the total sum of 11 players made up a draw and nearly got us 3. If someone can honeslty say there was a poor performance then come on down.
I may judge Ferrante a bit more if someone can enlighten me on what exactly he got the card for. That looked dumb

not that I wasnt to harp on about ferrante's poor play, but I do have to correct this assumption that I/we are basing are bagging of him on one game. I personally belive that he has struggled not only in the two games he's played this season but also at the end of last...
I can recall from his first game this year, 4 times that he lost the ball in attacking moves, each time he was disposssed due to either a poor fist touch or a terribly diorected pass, game two he was not involved in any part of the game in the first 10 - 15 minutes, then the first time he touched the ball he loses it softly, then he is fairly quiet again, next misses a sitter of a goal which I reckon anyone could have finished off better.

so i feel quite justified in my calls that he does not deserve to be starting, and if Brown was fit or if Lia was match fit he wouldn't be in the squad at all.

I agree. Ferrante has made consistent mistakes in the mistakes and needs to be dropped to bench. Bit like Daniel, if they can prove themselves off the bench then maybe they get another shot, otherwise give Lia a go, the one who is proving himself off the bench.

At least before Brown comers back and Lia loses out

Wow yeah that was nice. I think Lia should definitely start next week. Even if Brown is back fit, he should have to earn his spot from the bench

Permalink Permalink

If Lia does start who makes the bench between Brown and Ferrante is a big call for Ricki, perhaps we may see a striker on the bench as well, I wonder if/when Chen is ready to play. Could be a very long season for Costa.

Surely a bit of a strange decision if that is the case as if he does not get game time here he might do at Melbourne Heart or Western Sydney (or Adelaide or NQF or...)?

I thought contra to people knocking Durante that Oi Oi was on the money. It was one of the better games I've seen him play for the 'Nix and when we were one down towards the end of the second half he made some good runs foward to keep us going.

I didn't see the first goal admittedly, but it looked like he wasn't the ony one looking silly there...
