Yeah I can't believe Big Mac got red carded first minute for punching the ref either...

guess the point three was for the punch?

Vukovic 6 Looked shaky, but dealt well enough
Hearfield 5 Played Cazarine on for goal, got forward but was poor in crossing
Sigmund 7.5 Won penalty and was solid
Durante 7.5 As usual
Muscat 8 Won lots of ball, was tidy
Brown 6 Fairly average
Ward 8 Passed the ball well had some nice interplay too. Top class goal

WTF game were you watching? Leo was totally carving them up on the right flank all through the first half and part of the second. He was sidestepping people and taking the ball off them, and working so well with Nicky Ward. If not for Ward's goal, he would have been easily my MOM.

Other gripe: Vukovic 4. He was freakin' embarrassing, not knowing when to come off his line, and when he did doing it in a half-assed manner.

Leo seemed to be working very hard tonight, and at times was getting hammered. He did an A.O.K job tonight, compared with some other games where he just seemed not to be so interested in the ball.

All had solid 7-8 games except for Vukovic and Hearfield who I thought were poor

Special mention to Dura who still played like a man possessed even though he was on one legvaleo2010-09-11 22:10:44

i agree with dolaras. bertos played well.
ward carved up and finally we have someone who can pass to feet through the middle of the park and move into space rather than playing some crazy long ball or some lofted cross to noone.
sigmund also played really well i thought.

Really? Thought he was slightly better than last week but still played the Sydney player onside and never got a cross past the first man

I don't believe it's necessarily his fault, though - he just doesn't look comfortable at right back.

Hearfield again worst player on the park.

kept every man and his dog onside for their goal.

MOM - Ward but Greenacre comes in close second imo.

Hearfield was arse. his passing and his crossing was absolutely terrible. his performance was as bad as anything we saw from Mulligan.

Good to see Leo (two scoops) Bertos has finally arrived back from Sth Africa!
Not the most exciting game of football but the team dug out a result and can only get better once the new players bed in  !

Yeah his crossing was just stupid. It looked as if he thought the ball would go through the defender, so many of his crosses went straight into a man.

Vukovic - 4.5, reminded me of Crowther
Hearfield - 3, just not very good
Durante - 7.5, solid usual self
Sigmund - 7.5, very improved, far less fouls which was good, just always looks panicked when on the ball, and desperate to get rid of it.
Lochhead - 6.5, tidy enough, few too many long balls. And take a touch before crossing it mate.
Muscat - 7, love him in midfield. Snuffs things out well. Though I reckon Lia could do that role pretty effectively and put Muscat to right back
Brown - 6.5, good header and once again tidy enough
Ward - 8, cracker goal and if he can keep that up all season he is ideal in the middle of the park I reckon
Bertos - 8, by his standards this season that was very very impressive from him.
Ifill - 7.5, looked more dangerous, made some good runs and excellent skill for Browns crossbar header.
Greenacre - I actually can't remember if he played good or bad
Pavlovic - not much time, but looked hungry as always. Good young prospect.

Bertos, did everything right but the final ball into the box. Hearfield much the same apart from playing the dude onside.

Lochy had some very smooth moments. Brown seemed more involved with having Ward to link up with and Manny the fighter Muscat powning anything and everything.

WTF was up with Vukovich? Eish that guy really was Crowther in disguise!

Really? Paston makes me more nervous. When Vuk decides on charging/staying in he makes his mind up and doesn't hesitate. Paston seems he can never make his mind up sometimes.
Also Vukovic caught a ball instead of punching!

I thought he was decent as well, still made some faults, but he looked good.

Vukovic = 3 (had 4 things to do, did three of them wrong)
Lochead = 3 (too much wildy wellying, and some dumb fouls)
Durante = 7 (solid)
Sigmund = 8 (won tackles, won a pen, won headers)
Hearfield = 1 (long balls to nowhere, crosses into orbit or into defenders, terrible)
Muscat = 7 (lots of key interceptions and turnovers)
Brown = 4 (a few tackles but otherwise very quiet)
Ward = 8.5 (great second half in particular, passing and touch was excellent, and the goal)
Bertos = 5 (competent, but never beat his man and was fairly passive all game)
Ifill = 5 (decent start, but faded and was still too predictable)
Greenacre = 6 (held the ball up extremely well in tight spaces, but was never a threat in box)

Hopefully Vukovich''s performance will show our anti-Paston brigade that maybe he's not that bad after all.

Hearfield? Does one good thing then follows it up by f**king up the next 5 things he attempts.

Greenacre, Muscat and Ward had great games.

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

I'm glad I'm not the only who thinks Bertos is over-rated. I get frustrated every time I watch him and I'm starting to get more and more pissed off each time I see him play. Great go forward, but nothing at the end of it.

In a word: impotent.

My MOTM would be Ward closely followed by Durante.

Have to agree, in the first half Hearfield and Bertos had many chances to get crosses in but failed to deliver or hit it straight into defenders.

Liked midfield with Muscat and Ward. Ifill improved on last couple of efforts but still a bit to go.

Lochead = 3 (too much wildy wellying, and some dumb fouls)

You've got to be joking (or have a predetermined view).
Lochy was very good tonight (well, at least OK). I was with a committed Lochy-knocker tonight who even admitted he played very well.

I know, I know, its serious!

Well i'd put muscat at a 7.5/8, up there with ward and sigmund
brown not super flash but worth a 6, does the ugly stuff
sure not quite the ifill of last year, but a bit tough with two on your back most of the time.  created enough to be worth a 7 for me
lochhead, similar to brown, did his primary job well enough but didn't add a lot -6.  He'd have been a 4 if Brosque had been on the pitch
agree re leo, not beating his man
greenacre - yeh.  I give him a 6.5 as a midfielder and a 4 as a striker for a 5.5 average.  Not tall, not fast, but still the crowd favourite.  I'd rather have Pav if we are going to play a lone central striker.
hearfield - lousy final ball, but really did beat his man.  still out of place at right back 4

Leo was fine for me, did good work.

Hearfield's delivery was often poor but his getting forward stretched Sydney, often dangerously so, and if he can regain the confidence he had last season and use his speed to run round or cut inside the defence he can still be an asset. No problems with his defending overall today.

Vukovic I'm cutting some slack. First competitive game in ages behind a defence he doesn't know well. He'll be OK.

Siggy: God I love that man. Saved our bacon on several occasions with last ditch lunges and did a creditable Brosque impression - right down to that expression of wide-eyed innocence -  to earn a penalty.

Vukovic was caught in 2 minds about 4 or 5 times that game..

Never seen Paston like that except maybe in the first World Cup game.

Vukovic has a history of running out and not getting the ball - he did it several times at CCM.valeo2010-09-12 00:45:27

Ward - my man of the match.
Bertos looked better - at least seemed interested but his crossing is generally poor.
Lochead played well and only had a few errors.
Hearfield was significantly better than before and close to last year's form.
Manny - that has to be his position and he has to be kept there surely?
Ifill - anyone else notice that a couple of times he chose to go inside [and had his shot/pass blocked] rather than go outside to his left where he had an open shot at goal?
Greeny - he does do a lot of work but I want my strikers to score goals, Those 2 vs GCU were the type we hired him to score. Those alone give me confidence in him this year.
Siggy and Durante - solid and dependable as usual.
Brown - looked OK
New Goalie - OK
Pav - didn't see enough to make an impression on me.

Edit: Just a note on Siggy: To my mind Siggy is playing A League because he is a grafter; he doesn't have the silky skills of many at this level but he fights for everything he gets. Sometimes he doesn't quite do it right but he will never let you down through lack of effort or determination. That is why guys like him are crowd favourites and they deserve to be. Siggy's history exactly depicts what he is and where he is today.

you watch the replay and see how wasteful and inaccurate he was. awful. i have been a fan of trying to get most out of Hearfield speed as a RB, but last night he put in one of the most unintelligent, technically woeful performances i have seen from a phoenix player.
