Just when it looks like we're worth a boring 0 - 0 draw....
Crowther 6 A ciouple of good saves. Clearances not always convincing, and one v lucky moment
Manny 7 Defended well for the most part and useful going fwd
Siggy 7 Strong and solid
Dura 6 Some timely interventions
Lochy 6 Defended well, but his ball down the line is overdone.
Diego 5 A few good moments, but too many errors and not enough pressure on ball
McKain 6 Good first half
Ferrante 6 A lot better than the last two weeks, almost scored, good passes
Leo 7.5 Looked likely again and again
Ifill 7 Made some good openings
Greenacre 6 Worked hard but well marked
Lia 5.5 Worked well, but little influence, did nearly get onto a cross
Hearfield 5.5 Ditto
Daniel 5.5 One nice shoulder barge

Oi Oi Edgecumbe... lets have a clean sheet

fair enough i suppose... crowther possibly + 0.5 and Ferrante - 0.5, i personally didnt think he was that great apart from a superb effort on goal forcing just as good a save

Those marks suggested we played well. Try this

Crowther 6
Manny 5
Siggy 7
Durante 7
Lochhead 5
Diego 4
McKain 6.5
Ferrante 6
Leo 7
Ifill 6.5
Greenacre 6
Lia 6

Way to kind to some of them.Would be nice to see our guys value possession of the ball.Yet again far to often we gave it away far to easily with hopeless passing, players not moving to ball and a general lack  of skill on the ball.

You have to wonder just what they have been doing in preseason given the lack of understanding they show at times.

think you've both been a little kind to most of the guys...we didn't play well, defensively in the first half we mucked our way through for 0 - 0, but it was a struggle.
Besides Lia, ifill, Leo, and Greenacre I'd drop them all by 1.

Tricky for Crowther. Good saves - but that shocker in the first half. I'm happy to give him the benefit of the doubt on that as just first game nerves. If the ball landed a metre the other way and in the goal I wonder what everyone would be saying though?? I'd be tempted to notch him up a bit, but it's a judgement call on whether 2 good saves make up for a near fatal mistake....

I'd take Manny down to a 6.

I think a couple of Durante's tackles was worthy of him being a 7 for this one.

I'll let Lochy have a 6 because he seemed to a good job marking and that... but I was really miffed at his poor play on the ball at times. Gave it away far too easy - in the first half he gave it away stupidly in his own half, which could have cost a goal.

Diego 4 at most. So bad he got subbed before half time. His first touch of the game was alright, and then he just couldn't pass it at all.

Greenacre I'd give a 5. I don't really give points out for strikers running a lot. He had some poor touches and didn't threaten much.

Daniel 6. Didn't have much time on the park obviously, but had a good couple of touches (he didn't give the ball away as easy as he usually does and most others were).

mate your far to generous. I thought that Mckain was poor in his passing again, muscat was clumsy and always looked to be worth a yellow card, lochhead was..well lochead  and a big thumbs down to the coaching staff for the inept second half

Always good Oi Oi but way too high. Bring em all down 1 point. Can't give a 5 to a guy dragged before half time. Diego was so off that Ricki didn't even wait another 5 to take him off at the break.

About right, couldn't tell if the defence was playing under RH instruction to sit deep in second half or Dur/Sig weren't pushing them out but we sat back and invited Sydney to dominate us and deserved to loss. whitby fever2009-08-30 23:17:07

Spot on Oska. Hard to swallow giving anyone 7's in that game but Leo and Ifill were standouts. Solid debut from Crowther.

Crowther 7 - dodgy start but made a couple of good saves, no chance with goals

Muscat 6 - not too bad, don't remember any big errors, but never got forward as stated on commentary
Lochhead 5 - lazy lazy lazy. Again as stated on commentary, just refused to get forward and support, very disappointing
Durante 6 - better than last week but guilty of lumps up the park again
Sigmund 6 - didn't do too much wrong

Diego 3 - lazy, and a passenger for the most part. Subbed before half time says it all.
McKain 4 - had a couple of shocking passes I remember towards the end that may have skewed my opinion of his overall performance. MUST do better though IMO.
Ferrante 4 - another one who just does not have it in my view. No better than average as a player
Bertos 7 - only person who looked likely to do anything yesterday, unlucky with that solo run

Ifill 5 - tried hard but a bit off form yesterday compared to previous weeks
Greenacre 5 - very few opportunites, not enough support

Lia 5 - not much of an impact
Daniel 4 - no time to do much
Hearfield 4 - see above

About right, but would rate Ifill as much as Bertos, I felt he had a very strong game.

He was ok, maybe deserves a 6 I guess, just no end product really.

seems about right, although my first half viewing was messed up by "atmospheric conditions", which if the second half was anything to go by was a blessing.

McKain, Ferrante and Diego deserve about a 1 each. Crowther deserves a bit more, I reackon he's better than Paston tbh.Michael2009-08-31 11:05:34

I like him because to be a top goalie, you have to be angry or mad, or angry mad. Crowther is deffo at the very least highly-strung.

McKain is dining out on some strong performances last year - he has showed very little this year. My wife summed it up when she said, "What's happened to McKain, why isn't he playing?'. Too true, last night he was Mr. Anonymous.

Re Crowther, great to see Paston has genuine competition for his place. He just needs to remember to take his meds.

i am still not convinced about crowther. only seen him play a couple of matches, the first he let in a clanger against that Chinese side and then he almost had a barny with that charge down last night.
to be fair it is only very early days and too soon to reach conclusions.
i just hope this is not a patter and he's not too prone to such "moments"

Probably won't be prone to too many moments as Paston would be likely to play

Yea, my understanding is that Crowther is basically there as a reserve keeper. He looks at the least a good backup. His mistakes in that game were from clearing the ball - he made some good saves. Good thing is that he's young, and you can probably teach a keeper to clear the ball easier than you can to make diving saves.

I was impressed that he managed to throw his 6'7'' frame around as well as he did.....his arms look like they belong on an orangutan.......I thought he played well for his debut game.

Didn't he stick a few punts almost into the other goal area? His goal kicks were just ok, but the punts were huge Royal2009-08-31 17:51:14

Yeah I did see him win a bit of ball... and then he gave it back to Sydney. His game on Sunday was reminiscent of the Dodd in midfield experiment. My wife only came in for the second half, which explains why she thought he wasn't there.
