Oi Oi Edgecumbe... lets have a clean sheet

Points for excitement / nervous levels are well up, now trying to be objective...

Pasty 5.5 Not his best, spilled it for their second goal
Manny 5.5 Got caught out a couple of times, I wish he'd take the ball to the line like he used to, but a good defensive display, putting body on line
Siggy 7 What a goal, strong against Cazarine, assist for Timmy's goal
Dura 6 Coped well, almost scored
Lochie 5.5 Struggled first half but came right in second.
Leo 5.5 A couple of great moments - dancing through their defence, corner for Siggy - and some poor crosses
Vinnie 8 Mopped up everything, nice switches of play
Timmy 6 Scored
Dani 5.5 Not too bad, but little impact yet again
Greenie 7.5 Terrific, understanding with Ifill was good, their bloody keeper kept him out
Ifill 7.5 They never really coped with him
Smithy 6 Did well, but why after Ward's great showng last week didn't he get to replace Dani??

YF 8 Sounded daunting, well done, probably made sure Ifill got the pen.

What do you reckon??

YF up to 11 like a marshall Amp!
Need different 1st and 2nd half ratings.
We were a different side after the break, where was second half phoenix last two weeks?
If we can be second half phoenix every week we will win the league.

We only seem to play one half, so we need to keep it to a draw in our bad half.

Ifill and Greenie should really have buried their chances.

Absolutely.
We were quite lucky in the end.

YF 10. Couldn't have done anything more or louder than we did. Kept chanting even even we blew the lead.

As Oi Oi notes above I thought that was a great, gutsy performance by Lia, probably best of the season from him.

I thought leo actually did ok last night. Nice to see him attacking within the penalty box, tracked back well and lovely corner for siggy.

Auckland will rise once more

Bit harsh on Pasty that. I thought he had a good game. That was a good save and I don't think he could have held it as well. I recall him making a good tip over the bar in the first half and strong punches. I'd give him at least a 7.

Although didnt play too badly Leo really is a shadow of his former self and to be honest I wouldnt let him take any more deadball kicks...he's not good at it, despit siggy scoring from the corner

Lia did play well, to the best of his ability. I wouldn't say he was the best player on the park though.
Seems harsh on Paston, I thought he was brilliant until he dropped that shot, and if it took a heavy deflection then maybe he wasnt so much at fault for that.
Greenie and Ifill were great together. Sanchez was good but doesn't have enough passion.
I'm usually a Leo and Brown detractor but both played well. Brown won soo many headers esp. In the first half, it was ridiculous.
Leo's corner for Siggy was literally perfect, not flat like so many of his deliveries, fast with lots of dip and curl. If he had scored off his jinking run into the penalty area through two players you'd be giving him an 8...

One thing to say about Pav...
He may be any angry Muppet with the first touch of an anthropomorphised trampoline but when we won his enthusiasm was on matched by Lee and Ricki. Unlike Ward who had to force himself to look pleased that we won and Daniel got to go on before him, even if it was for a grand total of 2 minutes.
maybe it's just the difference between a player who knows where his pay check is coming from next year and one who doesn't.CloneMM2012-03-31 11:50:20

Also think Pav is probably greatful for where he currently is and may actually respect that the club has given him a chance. Whereas Ward probably thinks he is better than where he is, benchwarming whn he probably thinks he should be starting.

To be honest, I think Ward has the quality to be a starting player in this league, but he is just so damn inconsistant.

To be honest I'd re-sign Ward. If given a fair chance I think he could earn a start. Could see him displacing Leo or Pantelis to the bench.

Daniel didn't look very happy... I'm gonna miss him if we don't keep him on.

I agree, I think Ward is good enough, but as an A-League utility. He can fill a few positions for us, and can come on and run at tired players

What a fantastic game; the first half was classic finals football - as tight as. In the second half when the game opened up we played some of the best football we have played all season.

A couple of things I noticed in particular last night;

We pressed as a team not individuals and gave Sydney's play makers a lot less time on the ball than we typically give the opposition. Despite that I thought Carle still showed his class. A "Nick Carle" is exactly what we need. That level of creativity combining with Ifill would be lethal.

I thought players who have been more cold than hot this season stepped up big time last night, especially Brown and Lia.

Aside from Ifill we are a team of very honest toilers but when we operate as a unit we can play and make life difficult for the opposition.

Only down sides were the switching off for the 2 Sydney goals and Lochhead continuing to struggle for form.

All in all one hell of an exciting game and go the Heart !!

Agreed with WB as usual. We seemed to play ten yards higher up the pitch all night- when we put pressure on other sides always seem to buckle (note to Ricki). I think Manny deserved a bit better mark- it looked like he was marked out for special attention and took some heavy clattering. Maybe they thought his temper would ge the better of him? It didn't. They failed. Aisle 21 was epic, magnificent....we need 10/10.
Last thing- bollocks to FFA. No money for the club, piss poor, virtually non-existent marketing- hardly suprising we scraped 10k (oh, and tcikets at more than double the price of the 'Canes game tonight didn't help). Hope Perf get a kicking......

Nostalgia isnt what it used to be...........

I thought Lia had his best game of the season, and of course Timmy Brown stood up as well.

Lochy had problems, but I still got irritated by the cokmonglers behind me at Fox's who kept abusing him all match.

Lochy had a much better 2nd half, except for stupidly getting caught offside twice. Could be wrong but my impression is that he's carrying an injury.

It's a sad fact that the trio of hometown lads - Brown, Leo and Lochy - have over the years consistently copped more mindless abuse than any other Nix players.

Lia was very good I thought and deserves credit. Without him I don't think we would've won that game.

I actually thought he was our best against CCM too.valeo2012-03-31 18:20:16

thpough sanchex had one of his better games, got involved early and did well defensively, he really should be playing centrally not on the wing....6.5 for him  reckon

I think you are right but the fact that they are hometown lads(two are not) is irrelevant. I for one have criticized all three at some point, but it certainly was not mindless.
To be perfectly honest they have deserved it. I think a few others have also been critical but in most cases they have been correct. Just because you support a team does not mean that you cannot see anything wrong with the team or players.

Locchy is a BoP boy, and while Tim was born in Pommy Land, he is clearly a Wellington Lad as is Bertos.

Lochead slways looks so genuinely puzzled/surprised when he is called for offside, I wonder whether he a) knows the rule or b) is a supremely good actor. TIP-Dadi2012-04-01 19:32:26
