Great result to start the season, it could easily have been 4.

Pasty 7 Was safe, got off line well

Leo 5.5 Did pretty well, wasn't exposed

Siggy 7 Nice interceptions, strong

Dura 7 Calm, led the team well. Had a goal unfairly disallowed.

Lochie 6 Looked good going forward

Benji 5.5 Was pushed around too easily at times. Hit the post.

Manny 9 Outstanding performance, won so much ball, both assists

Smith 7 Good constructive play

Fenton 8 What a goal, confident with the ball

Brockie 6 Missed a couple of chances but did OK

Stein 6.5 Very nice goal, should have a had a couple more

Ifill 7 Classy from his first touch

Boyd 5 Chased hard

Clarke 6 Looked exciting

Good to have your ratings Oi Oi, was worried that YF website woes had blunted your enthusiasm.

I'd rate Stein a bit higher, I think he gives us a bit of cohesion up front

All we need now is LF1's table and all will be right with the universe

I'd bump Stein up personally but other than that looks good. His work rate was great. Reminded me of Greenie. He scored on debut and generally played well and did some good targetman stuff. I think he deserves more than a 6.5

Cant see how you rated Clarke higher than Boyd.  Thought Boyd showed a couple of nice touches.  Clarke barely got on the pitch.

The jury is still out for me at RB.  Time will tell.

Very impressed with Smith today.  Thought he was just as influential in the middle of the park as Muscat

Smith just moves the ball well and doesnt make many mistakes. Covers a lot of ground which was something we could have lost with Brown and Greeny leaving.

Totori very poor positionally for me. In both Attack and defense. Often was standing next to Leo on defense.

Stein & Brockie look like they will be good combinations, but think they both fell off in the second half. I miss greenacre's relentlessness without the ball.

I'd give Leo an extra mark just out of a sense of relief.

I quite like Lochy doing the setpieces. His overall accuracy seems better than Leo's.

Lochie and Stein both up to 7.
Leo up one. Thought he was pretty good actually, better than the other RB.
Boyd and Clarke no rating, not enough time and touches.
Manny 9.5
Fenton was pretty boss. Cross between Kosta and Marco.

he did indeed, clearly hardly an strength being shown, will struggle in alot of the physical challenges in the league

Heysegems must rate 7 or 7.5.  Way better than Ifill over the 80mins he was on.  What bmore can un ask othyer than a hatrick on debut..yeah right but he had the chances.  Also way better than Brockie on the night.

His first touch was bad, it seemed to end up a metre in front of him most of the time. Still he had some glimpses of being a pretty decent player, so a work in progress atm.

This. Agree his positioning looked off, Dura had the arm around him pointing up and down the sideline as they went in for oranges.

Thought both fullbacks looked good going forward, especially since Leo can no longer turn around to pass back to whoever was at right back like last year.

Never realized Lochhead took corners? Had three in a row from the right, then came and took one on the left in the space of 2 minutes.

Stein looked strong challenging for the ball. Composed finish.

Muscat killed it with the assists, although a few times his passes went astray and he was left standing with his hands in the air.

Fenton looked sharp with the ball at his feet and kept Emerton back peddling all game. MoM for me.

Brockie and Totori were a bit disappointing, though I think the former will definitely come good.  Jury is out on Totori.

2 good goals as well, Fenton was impressive.

Heinekens up a pint...I mean point

What did Fenton do wrong to go down to an 8? Hard to go higher I know but he looked after the ball and always took on his man.

If the 'roos had a coach who could think logically instead of Holger, Fenton should have just killed off Emerton's Socceroos career.

BTW now that we have an embarassement of riches, do we keep Ifill as a super-sub or does he relegate Totori to the bench?

Ifill will be back in the starting line-up for Totori as soon as his fitness is back to 100%.

Would probably move Leo up a bit, he did very well at an unfamiliar position, and with the added bonus of being too far away to ruin attacks with his crossing! Maybe Pasty down a bit, familiar shakyness with crosses. Probably would move Stein up too, my first viewing of him, looks very good.

Disagree with Clarkes rating of 6. Shouldve been more like a 2, not because he was crap but because he only played about 4mins and didnt really do anything.

Disagree with Bertos not being exposed, he was out of position a couple of times that Siggy and Dura covered for, one of which Dura gave him a serve.  Though I would still keep him on 5.5 because overall in the game he did OK.

Stein up to 7.5, he did a lot of great work competing for the ball in the middle of the park to get possession for Brockie and co. The only thing letting him down were defenders blocking his volleys that stopped him scoring 2 or 3.

Fenton was class, deserves a 9, he ran all over the park and I don't think he did much wrong.

And while I like Lochy taking spot kicks over Leo, I am not sure why Alex Smith wasn't taking them? From what I've heard of the pre-season, a number of goals were scored with him taking the spot kicks?

Probably because Smith is a beast in the air!

agreed, I think Totori is going tio end up being a super sub at best - he was found wanting a little bit in the physicality side of the game, way too easily bumped off the ball...looked good with ball at feet but his first touch was woeful at times. Ifill to start when fit play for 75 and Totori to come on.

Being in an import spot Smith was not everyones choice of being worthy of that spot given the noises coming from other A league clubs and the "names" they were signing but certainly seems calm and collected and passes the ball well.....possibly up half a point

Still not convinced about leo at RB...noticed him getting a bollocking on a couple of occassions for being out of position but no real hiccups and he did an excellent slide tackle later on in the game to break up an attack

Leo went much better than I expected. I'm not quite so nervous about right back anymore. Previously I thought it was crazy we weren't using an import slot to fill it.

That's hardly fair. Better not to give him a rating.

I thought Lochead had one of his best games for a long time. He seems to need a Rojas type player in front of him who can move infield with the ball and create room for him to rund down the flank.

Probably give him a 7 with Bertos (giving anything below a 7 for a clean sheet is pretty harsh)

Fenton gets a 9 for me, i like the way he took on players, but it was more his decision making in general that appealed to me, a couple times he tried, realised it wasn't working so turned back towards his support and laid it off. Good maturity. A couple of his crosses were rushed and hit defenders, but thats a complaint at a push.

Totori worked hard and looked good in the first 20 before falling away. Whilst his positional play was not brilliant, he did track back a couple times quite a distance to help out which was a positive surprise.

Midfield was good - Manny is getting all the kudos, but if it wasn't for Smith he wouldn't have had the opportunities he did. Good combo. manny 9 and Smith 7.5

The only player to disappoint was Paston who needs to be stronder coming out and collecting the ball in the air. Also his distribution can be poor. 6 (only because he made one good save otherwise a 5)

Ifil, class and adds real energy. The other two subs didn't get much of a look in.
