Ahhh the pain of another draw, almost getting to enjoy it now...
Paston 7 Coped very well with some interference that he shouldn't have been getting
Hearfield 5.5 Struggled at times, but did cover well
Dura 7.5 Another top game leading from the back
Siggy 6 Scrapped it out well
Lochie 6 Some good crosses, got caught out a couple of times
Leo 6 Good first half, faded
Daniel 6 Good first half, injured
Brown 6.5 Good goal, commanding in first half
Lia 7 Strong performance for the 90 min
Ifill 7 Some great touches, set up the goal, should have scored the header
Greenie 5.5 Worked hard, but more is needed
Manny 5 Maybe it wasn't a good idea to sub him on so late
Ferrante 4 did he touch the ball?
Chen 5 He did touch the bal, was worth more of a go

What do you think??l

I'm looking at your ratings and I can't change them a bit.

Very pleased with Paston (apart from that one heart in mouth moment when the ball bounced over his head). Lots of great punches under extreme pressure.

Paston 7 Was superb in controlling his area from corners and his throws in the first half to set the likes of Leo off were terrific. Had one bungle where he misjudged the bounce of the ball that almost cost a goal, though.
Hearfield 5.5 Defensively naive and didn't do much going forward either
Dura 8 Probably our best player. Has really stepped up.
Siggy 6.5 Not his best game, but still made a couple of crucial tackles
Lochie 6 Whipped in a few good balls
Leo 7 Looked our most likely for most of the game but faded in the 2nd
Daniel 6.5 Did good things and bad  - injury looks very serious (probably ACL) and reckon we'll miss him
Brown 6.5 Good goal, faded with the rest of the midfield in the 2nd
Lia 7 Tackled and ran hard like always but still gives away too many fouls
Ifill 7.5 Was very good at times and was a good cross for Brown however his missed chances ultimately cost us the game. Still looks injured.
Greenacre 6 Works harder than anyone in the team which is needed when the midfield goes missing so often. Hasn't delivered the final product but really, who has in this team? Think that he is used to playing with a genuine target man.
Manny 5.5 Didn't do much right when he came on - to be fair, he was under pressure from the get go
Ferrante Lost it a few times
Chen   Looks unfit, did one good thing and one bad - was offside when he shouldn't of been. Also gave away a silly foul.

he's useless.

Three things we learnt today:

1, The GOld COast midfield is awful considering we dominated them a fortnight ago but couldn't hold a ball today.
2. Troy Hearfield is not a right back.
3, Michael Ferrante is not a footballer.

He didn't seem to play the offside trap very well. A couple of the whistled offsides were just offside with Hearfield being the last man when he really didn't need to be. Guess I expected a few more forward runs as well.

Still, he didn't disgrace himself completely, and an option for the future.

Ed- note the use of option- never said a good one...

Very constructive.

He good forward on overlapping runs and delivered dangerous balls a number of times (first half) and completely shut Brockie (admittedly an unfit Brockie) out of the game.  But of course you don't like him, so we should knock him down to a 1 or a 2.

yep but he can't defend to save himself.

Just reading the a-league report:

Not sure if it's just my browser but does Troy Hearfield look a little round and out of shape in the picture?

I would be interested to see how many goals conceded come down our left hand side.  My guess would be very few.

Only one definite I can recall v Brisbane when Miller stuck in a nice through to Henrique down the left, leaving Lochhead in no man's land. Even if his passing and forward runs haven't always been up to scratch I don't see how people can complain about his defending.

He didn't play as well today as he has over the last 4-5 games but he looked buggered to me in the 2nd half.

Yes, that was the one I could recall.  Can't think of any more off the top of my head.  But he's a sh*t defender, so there must be quite a few more examples that Whooo can provide. Right Whoooo?

Lochie good crosses but buggers up the defending side of things.

Anyone recall a Lochie defensive header?

And what about getting caught out all the time, relying on the Dura and Siggy to clean up? I'm getting fed up with that perplexed look he gets as attackers stroll past him because he's so out of position. What about the almost goal in the first few mins did he not play them onside?

Only the sad thing is we knew these things before the game. Would give Mulligan a try ahead of Ferrante. He's been pushing. Hearfield we need in the forward line as a player who scored goals last year. The thing is Bertos, Daniel, Hearfield, Costa and Ifill are really wide players who chip in with goals, but not out and out strikers. Too similar types of players.

all attacking midfielders who play as such....the only reall frontmen we have are costa, greenie and chen(?), neither costa or chen are likely to get a start ahead of Ifill, so we are stuck with him playing his natural wide game, which is working well. We simply aren't getting enough other players into the box on attack to make use of his crosses. theprof2009-10-20 11:51:29
