Oi Oi Edgecumbe... lets have a clean sheet

I guess the wind was the winner. Matthew Breeze pun territory.

Pasty7 Had to deal with a couple of dodgy pass backs
Troy 5.5 Never a solid fullback but not too many errors
Siggy 6 A lot of desperate defending, mostly good
Dura 6 Not as composed as usual but the wind was unmerciful
North 5.5 Subbed at half time
Leo 6 A couple of nice runs and a goal after half time, but why does he spend the first half hanging back?
Timmy 5 Chases, only passes he made were safe ones
Manny 5 What a mixture, set up a goal, gave away a pen, dumb yellow card, looked to make things happen
Ward 4 One good cross. Subbed at half time
Ifill 4 Poor game
Greenie 6 Nice goal
Pavlov 5 Ran hard, nothing special
Daniel too late on

Ricki I guess he can't control the wind, and I guess he did realise the 343 wasn't going to work today, but his team looked like they had hardly played together before

YF well done on your singing

What do you think?

Think you're being a bit generous on North - got the feeling there was a massive hole at the back where I was expecting him to be (4).

Also, it wasn't a good game from Ifill but I'd say it was more of a 5 then a 4 - first 20-30 mins wasn't bad at all.

Otherwise agreed - except I'd give the ref a 1.5 for vicious inconsistency.

Muscat didn't get booked did he?

North was terrible I thought.

What about a rating for Vince Lia? I thought he was pretty good. A few heavy touches though.

To be honest I thought this was one of Hearfield's better games this season, but that probably says more about the previous games.

I think Leo deserves two seperate ratings for the first 30 minutes (4 imo) and the next 50 (7.5 imo), he had a very poor start but was great eventually.

Would probably bump Pav up slightly, I thought he did ok.

Other than that I pretty much agree

It just feels like he's playing out of position on the left side of that 3-4-3.  I also got the impression that he had been told to sit back, and the RWB was allowed to play further up.  Once he moved further up the pitch he definitely looked more comfortable.

Leo was playing a Defensive midfield in the first half and it shows, Rickis formation doesn't work for the nix needs to go back to the old one.

North was gash.  Sydney can have him.

North's way overrated if you ask me, I'm still waiting to see the supposed famous partnership of him and Durante...Timmy hardly touched the ball and Ward was kind of a waste of space, wasn't sad to see him subbed.

442 was a lot better I think. Wish we had a team of Muscats though. For me he was again one of the best, be it he gave away the pen which I thought was a little soft.

The only thing with 442 is that manny isnt in the middle, where he really is starting to thrive.

Leo in the first half was utter rubbish

Which Leo are you talking about? The man of the match for the Phoenix Leo Bertos, or some other Leo I didn't notice? Manny was like the girl with the curl in the middle of her forehead... when he was good he was very very good (laying on Greenacre's goal and some really good defensive work too) but when he was bad he was horrid (the needless shoulder that resulted in the bollocks penalty decision).  bwtcf2010-10-18 13:59:28

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Phoenix fans. We have to win them over one fan at a time.

what a go awful referee...anyway Leo didnt seem to know what he was doing in the first half... much better second half....cant remember seeing tim brown hardly touch the ball and when he dd he got rid of it like a hot potato. I thought tha we looked a lot better when Lia came on...very low marks to Rikki for that shambolic formation in the first half..tactically needs to work beter...and does it ever show that we need a decent holding midfielder!!

Would have thought the Paraguay game would have taught RH that 3 at the back only works well when one of them is Nelsen!

Sorry  forgot Vinnie, not something you can usually do!!
Vinnie 6 Worked hard, wanted the ball, no stupid tackles that I remember.

probably all the Paston Haters.

Would need to see it again, but thought he got a touch on it. Got the side right unlike the one against Paraguay.

He covered a huge amount of space in the midfield. One of his better matches.

Brown was getting pulled out of position a lot when Heart were on the attack (but did sometimes have to choose between two Heart players).

Yeah penalties are pretty easy to save.

Must have been enough for some in the zone to want 11 of him.

Manny was absolutely terrific - it's just too bad he gave away that clumsy pen (North should've stopped it but slipped over)

North and Ward were our worst and were rightfully subbed.

Lia did pretty well when he came on I thought - several raking passes and crucial tackles.valeo2010-10-18 00:26:21

Centre of midfield was non-existant again. Wish we had some go forward through the middle, notice our attacks mostly come through the flanks. Brown gets the ball (handful of times a game) and 95% of the time turns and passes back towards our goal.
That ball from Muscat was the first time in ages I can remember Nix scoring a goal from a direct pass through the centre. Heart on the other hand looked dangerous coming forward through the centre, was a lot of space...

Paston got a huge touch on the penalty, it went under him! I'm suprised that noone has commented on siggy's gaff which led to their second goal....he was completely done by the heart atacker....he worked hard for most of the game but I'd still only rate him at 5.

yep I think that I'd be more surprised if the penalty taker missed than the keeper

Weird, I didn't think that Ward was doing too bad watching at the ground. Will have to watch it again on TV. Would definitely have taken off Brown before him. At least Ward looks for the ball and tries to give an option.

Ward carelessly turned the ball over in midfield, which ultimately led to the chap running into the box and being penalised.

True, but (from memory might be wrong), he also ran past Brown, around North (who slipped over), and was needlessly fouled by Muscat.
Not saying that he was perfect, just didn't think he was the worst.

Shut up Pastybashers, he singlehandedly saved the game for us five minutes from time. Or should that be single-shoulderedly?

This. And im no big fan of Hearfield. But i think he's better suited to that position, and just needs a couple more games.

And for gods sake, dont stop using the 3-4-3 just cause we were 1 down at halftime.

He is an attacking player, get him on the ball and run at players and goals will come.

What? They stopped using it because we looked worse than Liverpool

Shoulder? Really?

What's the penalty for a keeper who handles outside the box?

Red card and straight off, isn't it?
