Moss 2.5 - could have been 0-10.  Just too much space given by the defense.  Fish in a barrel for the Heart.

All the rest 2, 1 for being in kit and 1 for the autograph signing afterwards, so thanks to those players who fronted for that or maybe it was the safest place to be and they were just avoiding the locker room.

Can we deduct points for the horrible kit too. No one rated anything than a laughable mention. Sorry lads but on this occasion, the crowd turned up, the Heart turned up, the match officials turned up but.... Next home game, back to a crowd of 6,000.

In other news, several Kiwis were involved in a sleeping pill/skull "V" party the night before the World Cup final.

Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

Everything about tonights game was beyond all comprehension. i think even Ernie gave up he didnt move from his seat in the dug out for most of the second half, no subs he just let them stew.

I hope they go home tonight and all have a good look in the mirror at themselves, that from a so called proffesional sports team is certainly not good enough.

Gareth wants the crowds, well Gareth if they are going to serve up that crap there aint going to be a crowd, theres only going to be a crowd of one and that will be you Gareth.

Even in the darkest days of RH we never played that badly

I'll have a stab at it.  I am being fairly generous because I think we were outplayed by a side that scored fairly consistent 7s and an 8, and also tactically beat us up, and our 4's to 7s just weren't good enough.  We lost this in the midfield and through a lack of any real pace and insufficient movement up front.  Plus a couple of guys in the other team hitting screamers at important times.

I thought Boxall (7) had a good game.  Despite being a more confined to defensive duty with the carnage in front of him, he got forward when he could and played a decent number of good passes from fairly forward positions, plus mostly bossed his flank.

Moss (6) had a solid enough game apart from the blooper.  Agree with those arguing none of the rest of the goals were his problem.

Sig (6) and Dura(6) somewhat showed they are still the old Sig and Dura and have been well shielded by Riera.  Struggled more but did OK.

Manny (6), not abysmal either.  Got caught out a number of times but recovered fairly well.   Pretty limited forward contribution but it was that sort of game.

Stein(7) worked pretty hard and got on the ball a lot, but got surrounded.

Carlos (6) got sat on, but I thought he kept up a pretty good workrate right thru.

Lia (5) didn't and can't do a job as DM, and didn't support the forward players well enough either.  I would probably also make him culpable for two players getting half an hour to shoot from the top of the box with no-one closing them.

Brockie (4), non-entity again.  Gets points for at least making a bit more effort to run around aimlessly.

Hicks (5.5) got pulled to try and tighten up the midfield and was getting mugged on the ball.  But was also struggling to find Brockie and Lia for any options.

Cunningham (6.5) got pretty involved, created some problems for them.  Was surprised to see him subbed.

Ridenton (4)  couldn't cope as as sub for Hicks.  Shame to see a young kid get mauled like that.

Boyd (6.5) brought some energy and movement, but also ran into walls of Heart players.

Ernie (5).  First time he's got tactically totally done, but he has limited options.  I thought we didn't use any width in the front third, when that was often where the space was, and wondered if Watson might have been worth a run to play to as a central target.  But I guess we've not worked on that sort of game with him in the squad yet and we would have  have needed to keep Kenny on and got Boyd on with him to make that work. How Brockie got to stay on the field I don't know.  I agree and agree and agree with others that we cannot play all of Carlos, Brockie and Stein together (nor Ifill) as we get too pedestrian with only Kenny offering any real pace.

Heart (8) outplayed us across the park, plus got given free shooting practice at least a couple of times and pulled off cracking shots they'll still be talking about.

Mjp2 I've seem generous marks before but yours take the biscuit!

Nobody got pass marks today, they were all half asleep and performed horribly.

Ernie gets a 4. totally tactically out thought by van'tschip.

Ernie mate, you can't start Brockie and Stein together.....has never worked, won't work in the future. The youngsters like Ridenton need more protection. They should be bit players....Ridenton got done over today.....tough on a 17 yo.You also really need to sit down and work out Brockies role.....because it is not obvious what he does or is meant to be doing.

Brockie's role is first out the door in the off season. That is all.

Cheers Steve-O.

As a team, sure we did not play well.  But I am putting a lot of this down to Ernie getting it wrong, two positions on the field being pretty much total duds for us (I count a 4 as a fail, and especially when the marking players were doing an 8).

They had a game of 7s and 8s, we had a game of 4s, 6s and up to a solitary 7.  I don't think my numbers are totally unrealistic, but you have to simply recognise when the other side play well and significantly better than you, man for man, when your game plan gets shredded, when your sub options are very limited and you fail to adjust, plus when the opposition strikes all go in, you are going to look like you bent over.

I didn't really expect a lot of people to feel like agreeing with me on this but, sometimes, despite the emotions, a bit of perspective is still warranted.

I think Riera has made a huge difference and his 8 would have replaced a 4.  Then everybody around him would be under less pressure and the 6s would get up to 7s and you have a contest.

I agree we missed Riera and agree they did play well.

We, however, were not at the races and nobody deserves more than a 4 IMO.

Of course, opinions are opinions.

Not really arguing Steve-O, I admitted I was probably being generous, certainly by comparison with how players often get marked on the thread, but it was somewhat deliberate to make people think a bit.

I found it interesting to check that if you add up my points and you give Heart an average 7.5, then I pitch them as around 28% better than us.  In professional sport, in my opinion, that is more than enough of a difference to result in a stuffing.

In my experience relatively small margins can make huge differences in sport.

No not arguing either (despite appearing that I might be), just think we were slightly worse than you think, but that's fair enough.

Regardless, Heart were well ahead in all departments!

Poor game all round, a local park team could have beaten the nix today. Standouts...brockie for being crap again and not seeming to know where he fits in with ernies style of play, I also thought that Boxall was pretty dire too. he seems out of position a lot of the time and when going up field chose to saunter back at a leisurely pace

He had to cover acres and acres of space and looked totally buggered half way through the first half. If they want him to push up then he needs cover behind him.

I'll give it a crack.

Moss gets a 6. Pulled off a couple of good saves but was totally at fault for the second goal. Other than that i thought he did ok.

Muscat 4. Worse game of the  year from him. His passing was shocking all game. He just kept giving it away.

Siggy 4. Same problem as Muscat, passing was woeful and put us under pressure. Also he got caught pushing too far forward again. A shame as he has improved in this area generally.

Durante 6. Didn't really make any mistakes, however, as a team we need to push out quicker from set pieces as we keep getting punished by 20+ yard speculators and he needs to help lead this.

Boxall 6. Thought he looked the most assured out of our backs with the ball and kept his man generally pretty quiet.

Hicks 5. too soft on the ball and got bounced off. Was surprised he got pulled as his passing seemed to be the only threatening part of our game, especially in the last 15.

Lia - 5.5. Made some good tackles, but largely missing. Feel bad for him as he was partnered by HIcks and Cunningham in the mids with Carlos up top. Thats a lot of donkey work for one player.

Cunningham 5 - such a poor touch for a professional player, however, always looked to try something and get forward.

Hernandez 4 - ineffectual.

Hysegems 5.5 - no shots, couldn't get a look in at all. Did however, hold up the ball well when he got it and worked hard on D.

Brockie 4 - did nothing all game... doesn't fit the game plan and should have started on the bench behind Boyd.

Boyd 6 - did well, took on players and looked for quick one twos. Too bad by the time he'd come on his team had given up already.

Ridenton 3.5 - some nice touches but in large was very poor. Couldn't pass and did not protect the ball at all well. Needs to be stronger and more aware.

Ernie - why didn't you play all three subs? Why did you take off Hicks when he seemed not Cunningham etc if we were being over ran in the midfield.

Rubbish, absoloute rubbish..... we were miles ahead of them in the "giving away the ball needlessly, putting everyone else under pressure" department
