Some excellent, some not, but over all a bloody good team showing.
Moss 8 very good
Old 4 Not his worst game, but...
Rees 6 Not his best either, but great goal
Lockhead 6 Did his job
Elrich 5 Some great play in first half and slack in second half. Why doesn't Ricky sub him?
Ferrante 9 Excellent game, passing and at last a goal
Lia 7 Top effort, shame about the fouls
Brown 6 Indecisive at times, but reasonable, can't see how he starts ahead of Johnno
Felipe 6 Worked hard
Smeltz 9 Class, holding the ball up surrounded by Jets
Covs 7 Good game, should have shot or squared instead of falling over after run into area
Johnno 8 Saved our bacon once, just did the job
Jezza 6 not on long, but did well

Ref 7, thanks for not red carding Mossy

change elrich to a 4, old to a 0, and covney to an eight. my opinion

All Aboard the Phoenix/ All Whites Bandwagon!!

i thought felipe had a quiet game but as you say worked hard

agree with the numbers - Old seemed marginally better than of late

Covs legs went at the end (of the match , not that run)

thought Elrich displayed a bit more effort/passion than he appears to sometimes (he certainly tested the ref's patience at that corner)

I'd give the ref 9.9 for not sending Mossy off!

I'm still trying to decide between Smeltz and ferrante for my  MoM, but really ferrante gets it  - for his collector's item that took us to 2-1

great result, engrossing football

Elrich should not have been carded, the Jets defenders were too close. Don't know what the touchy was doing she was right there watching this all play out.  No majors it wasted a good minute of the three they had to go!

That was just Elrich's excuse for the booking, but to me it was pretty clear he was actually killing time. I thought he had a point though, but so did the ref, who seems to be one of the better refs in the league by the way. Doesn't have the same sort of 'inflammatory' presence and influence as some others.

Yeah - ref is definately the best IMO. Think he could have warned one if not both of the Jets players for being inside the alowed distance from the ball. they were way close!

Sorry but Old was aweful last night. The rest of the team were bloody good. Rees had an average game by his standards but stoked to see him and Ferrante score (thought it would never happen for him)

Its no longer a problem.

Well said that man. Old was appalling.

I assume that O'Dor is carrying/recovering from an injury and I hope he gets better pretty quickly.

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

I suppose our current problem is that there is no guarantee that either Christie or O'dor would do better on the right of a back 3 and Rees can get caught for pace out wide

we also might need christie in midfield, or as a midfield sub v Sydney with 3 midfielders out and Aloisi uncertain

ideally if we retain 3 at the back, which seems likely, I'd go Rees, Dodd,  Lochhead (again the loss of Lia is a drag, because he could have provided a bit of cover for Rees)

Could be interesting next week - no lia, Daniel still out? Aloisi may be back but surely only for a half at max?

I think Aloisi will be itching to play, it will probably be his last game at home

Normo's coming home

Ummm, Elrich's excellent corner won us the game. Also, he was dangerous in the first half. Probably ran out of steam in the second but he is still the best player we have on the right wing.

Thought Elrich played really well, couple of times he was released out wide qnd caused their 'd' some issues.

It is Dodd we need back at defence.

well obviously Dodd is the preferred choice, but if he's out I'd rather not see Old in there again.

Elrich also took the quick free kick, as Felipe was lining it up, that led to the cross from Rees ( I think it was him) that led to the header from Coveny that Smeltz finished! So a hand in 2 goals. I think he played and crossed and covered better, much improved, and I can see him only getting better from here

I'm sorry but NO! I've seen better coverage by Telecom in Europe eg NONE. Yeah, he took a quick free kick for our first goal but once he gave to to Lia he went spaz at him for not giving it back down the line. OK, his corner was on the money but nothing any better than what Daniel has delivered and we've scored off. Overall I think Elrich has a huge step up to get to the level he is capable of. And his brother needs a smack in the head too. He dives more than Daniel used to.

Surely he's not in the same league as Cristiano Ronaldo in the springboard diving competition though....?

Rees 6? Having watched the replay I'd give him him 2 and the only reason he didnt get 0 was that he scored. I also disagree with most who say Old was rubbish. I thought he did ok, as he had to cover for Rees most of the game.
Smeltz had a high work rate as usual but how many chances did he blow by not laying off a simple pass?

Nah. It was Old's poor positioning and strolling about on the right side, outside of the man he should have been marking, that led to Rees being exposed and thre subsequent penalty. Rees should never had to mark that player. It was Old's man, but he was caught out. He was all over the place last night.

Agree about Smeltz though. It's not one of the stronger aspects of his game. He does better in other areas, like finishing of course.

Elrich seems to have a more attacking licence on the right (thus Ferrante was looking for him with long switches) whereas Lia seemed to be more defensive (well maybe it was actually because he did some tracking). With that formation we seemed to allow their left sided player to get the ball in space- with Old closing him down eventually. It turned out ok to conceede it out wide there. Not sure how that left us looking dodgy directly infront of the defence in the middle though - it should have been where we were strongest.

I think your last point is a 'tracking from the centre of midfield' issue F.
