well, well, well, the Phoenix are a team that plays on the break. Great result boys.
Warner 6 Solid today, without a lot of decision making to do
Manny 8 Tested and supreme
Siggy 8 Terrific, from that early vital header one metre from our goal, to his well time intercepts
Dura 7 Great decision making
Griffiths 6 Started poorly, giving far too much room to his winger, and giving every throw in that he took to a Roar player, improved a lot in second half
Leo 6 A good effort, high work rate, got the crowd going with his race towards goal.
Brownie 5.5 Ran hard
Vinnie 6 Some vital interceptions
Ifill 7.5 Seemed out of touch with his team mates, until he scored, forever off side. Good goal, the deflection helped. Great ball through for Wardy
Wardy 7 His best game for a while, was good on defence and didn't give the ball away on attack
Greenie 6 Chased well when not in possession
Smith 6 Did the job well too.
Ricki 8 Well done the tactics worked, though it didn't look likely for 25 minutes!
What does everyone think?

Would bump down Leo half a point. Still looks out of touch to me. Maybe i'm being critical.
Otherwise fair. Great result

Agree for the most part - I'd bump Greeny up and drop Ward a point.
I'd also drop Lia a half (nitpicking) but, sorry to say, I thought Brown was poor. Too many times he got caught ball watching or, unusual for him, didn't put in the hard yards tracking back.
Herbert I'd give a 9 - I thought we were tactically excellent.
He dribbles a lot and the opposition dont like it - you can see it all over their faces. (Ron Atkinson)

think we're being hard on the midfield, i'd add 0.5 to ward and a full point to lia and brown
the amount of intercepts and the poor passes/touches caused by our pressure was excellent, particularly from ward and lia

Completely. Latching onto every half chance at a turnover from slightly mis/underhit passes totally disrupted their flow.

Wait, people rating Greenie a 6, for what? His 6 offsides?
For the huge amount of pressure he put on them in their half to create the chances we had.
He worked his arse off pressing them in their half and slowing them down to avoid the quick play with Paartalu in to midfield. Worth over a 6 for me. Played his role perfectly.

I thought 6 is a little harsh on Griffiths. I thought he did quite well. One or two dodgy moments but you have to remember this isn't his natural position and I thought his positioning was reasonably good and his defensive work solid. 7 from me.

Ward scored a goal and set Ifill away for the first, and yet people say he was poor.

I love that this time round we tried to beat the roar, and it worked - i feel like lots of teams gave them too much respect because of their growing record, but once Ricki put those tactics in place, we really did well.
A counter attacking based strategy at most away games would be quite sucessful you would say. ASnd it fits for our predominantly destroying midfielders, and quickish skillful wide men.

I would say 6 is about right objectively but given that it was his first game starting and that we were playing the league leaders, I would agree with you.
'Circumstantial' 7 imo

so so this, the work greenie put in defence was epic, he had their back four making poor passes all night......I'm please ward took the chance he was given, his and Vinnies starts were not the best - they have to have the wrst first touch in the league.

Fantastic game- we thoroughly enjoyed it. Siggy, Manny, were excellent. I agree with whoever said that Greenie snapping at the heels of the defenders put them under great pressure. I thought leo was better than a 6. He did a lot of defensive work- often having to deal with either two players himself, or having 3 come at 2 phoenix players. Got a bit solated on attack a few times, but was cool to see him get through and have a reasonable shot later in the game. Warner did pretty well, with some tidy saves, but still did not thoroughly convince me that he is dominating his area and directing his defense at all- looked to be a couple of mis-communications.
But really, 2-0 over the roar- while sober, I still agree with Sthn Jeff. Give 'em all a 10!

Unthinkable!
I disagree with Whitby Boy!
Herbert left Ifill on for ten minutes more than he should have IMO. He started limping (OK, he usually does that...) quite a while before he was subbed. For this I couldn't go so high on Ricki, but certainly worth an 8 for the way we played and won.
Nostalgia isnt what it used to be...........

I wouldn't give Herbert a 9. He may have cost us Ifill. He clearly signalled he had injured himself, and yet Ricki wouldn't sub him until (as Ricki's law dictates) it was the 85th minute.
Had he have subbed him off earlier, would he still be in doubt for the Victory match?

Ifill is a big boy and a seasoned pro...if he thought he was injured and that he felt he should have come off he would have said so. Was he injured making the final pass for Wards goal?
Pretty trite to blame Ricki for not taking someone off before they get injured

had he subbed ifill at the 65th minute or whenever he started limping we'd not have had goal #2, which was the nail in the coffin for the roar, 1 - 0 up was never a certain win - though he could perhaps have brought daniel of Lindsay on earlier for the mids, especially seeing theya re backing up this sunday.

Ifill should have come off when he got injured ,he looked in pain as he hit that through ball to Ward and may have aggravated the injury at that point !

Yep!
I agree with that. Greenie gets a very generous 6 for his defensive work but a 3 for attack.....and he is a striker after all. To me he looks like the big workload he has carried this season is starting to take its toll. He looks slower and slower each game. At 34 he should probably be a bench player not a 90 mins a game player. He is there more because there is no viable alternative.
A younger faster player would offer more on attack plus could easily do Greenies current defensive role by pressuring defenders.

Count me, also, as someone who is growing increasingly annoyed at the selection of the consistently poor Tim Brown. Nice bloke. Scores some fine goals. But missing in action, far, far too often.
I would also love to have seen Cameron Lindsay given a chance once we were two up. He must be pretty discouraged not to have made it onto the park yet, especially as he watches Tim Brown aimlessly taking up space on the field for 90 minutes every week.

6 Offsides? or 1? You clearly don't have any kind of prejudice against Greenie... I didn't think his offside was offside btw. (if it's the offside I was thinking off, the team did have a lot, but we were playing counterattacking without any fast players so you would expect a few)
Back 4 were all great, Dura was possibly the least exceptional but that's probably just due to his baseline performances. Griffiths throws were terrible though, really bizarre how bad they were
Bertos was alright, never really looked like turning the game on its head though.
Would say Brown was the worst for us, but wasn't terrible. Put that Beautiful ball down the wing for Ifill, seems more willing to try things like that if Ifill or someone else tricky is on the end of it.
Would love to see either Sanchez or Smith take his place for at least one game. Even If Brown was put up front to give Greenie a rest, or fill in for Ifill if you hate Pav.
