A scrappy game. Why does the wind have to wait till the Nix have a game and then blow its lungs out??

Reddy 8 Some very good saves, thanks Liam!
Troy7 Defended fairly qwell and some good runs fwd
Durante 7.5 Made some crucail tackles and interceptions, very cool
McKain 6.5 Got caught out a few times, but scored a nice goal. Has to watch his pushes on the attackers.
Lochie 6 Did the job
Ifill 6.5 An occasional threat
Timmo 6.5 Solid, quick to close them down
Manny 7 Some crucail tackles and tracking back
Caceres 6 An occasional threat too
Dadi 5.5 Pretty well marked out of the game
Greenie 7 Amazing work, tackling back in our penalty area, combining well with others, good shot
Leo 7 Beautiful cross
Daniel 6 Contributed too in his short time

Ricky - 7 good plan and line up

Crowd 9.5 Awesome turn out, just need to learn some more chants

What do you think??

Reddy 8 - solid goalkeeping.  Was very impressed.
Durante 8.5 - my man of the match.  Very solid, covered well, strong in the air, even got a reasonable header in when he slipped over.
McKain 7.5 - a few basic errors, otherwise did well.  Ofcourse we can't forget his goal (2nd in four games)
Lochhead 7.5 - reasonably solid.  Far less errors than I'm used to with him.
Hearfield 7 - did well.  Didn't attack as much as I like to see from him but we got the result so I'm not to complain.
Brown 6.5 - was alright.  No real qualms.  Had a good shot.
Muscat 8 - was very strong in the middle.  His distribution (from memory) wasn't bad and he was very helpful to the defence.
Caceres 7 - a constant threat.  Combined well with Lochhead.
Ifill 7 - not as into it as I'd hoped but still did well.
Greenacre 8 - ran hard all night.  Loved the optimism with his shot from 50 yards out that wasn't half bad at all.
Dadi 6 - Didn't do a whole lot.  Lost possession a fair bit.  Went down a few times, ran into a few players then launched himself backwards in obvious attempts to get a free-kick.

Subs
Bertos 5.5 - Didn't really do a lot.  Came back and defended well once.
Daniel 5 - Wasn't hugely effective, though had little time to do much.

Edit: perhaps I was consistently a bit generous but I was very happy overall.  It can still be good even if it's scrappy.

love the crowd rating.

Those are reasonably generous ratings. Not sure how Dadi scored 1.5 less than Greenacre. Dadi more involved until subbed and Greenacre still not featuring enough when we have the ball.

Yeah I feel Greenacre does work hard but doesn't seem to ever get any real ball in attacking positions and won't beat players. Maybe because he's always tracking back?

I don't like Dadi but he does have more technical ability and did make scoring opportunities last night.

I think Daniel actually did quite well when he came on last night, he offers a very different threat than Caceres imo. Daniel seems to release other players quite well whereas Caceres beats them and then shoots, rarely slips a dangerous through ball into our attackers..

All on the button I reckon, Dadi struggled but primarily cos cornthwaite marked him out of the game - our defence could learn something from him....Greenie moved well and created chaces for everyone else.

OF COURSE! Phoenix were playing at home.
Profile pic. Should you be interested. Lakhsen, on the right, lost touch with him.
Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.

I would give Greenacre a 8 for his defense, tracking etc. He probably is one of our best defenders. There is no way he is worth an 8 overall.

He is a striker. Its his primary job to score or help create goals. His current stats for the A-League season are 5 goals , zero assists and 18 shots on goal. Not great for around 23 games. Less than one shot per game is poor for a striker with his experiance. I don't think I have ever seen a striker who manages to NOT be in the action in front of goal so often.

He is not a goal poacher. He does not create goals. The stats don't lie. People say he needs to be along side a big target guy....well he has played a game and a half alongside Dadi and nothing changes. At least Dadi has had some positive impact in the games he's played.

I am sure there will be lots of people who will leap to his defense and rave on about the runs he makes and the tracking etc but 5 goals , 0 assists and less than 1 shot on goal per game does not do it for me.

I'd knock Cacera down for his corners, but I won't because he shouldn't be taking them.

If Daniel or Bertos don't start, we've got no one to fire in good corners.

I suspect people would criticize the corner that we scored off.  Along the ground and all.

To be fair I thought it was a good idea and worth a go.  If Durante had gotten in just ahead of the Adelaide player he could've flicked it into the danger zone and anything could have happened.  Regardless, we scored off it.

Did anyone else think Dadi was selfish in our first attack in the first couple of minutes by taking a blocked shot rather than getting a pass to Greenacre?

Manny Muscat has really impressed me recently. I didn't rate him before but he's changed my mind. good work rate, gets in there with good tackles and passes.

yep I thought that. Also Caceres something like 5 shots from outside the box and got only one of those on target in a fast break situation with players in front of him.

I thought the ratings were too high. Adelaide has been woeful this season. And yet it was down to Reddy to save our blushes twice in injury time.

Some good points but he has only played 16 games I'm pretty sure. So averaging a goal every 3 games like he said he would, but still there is definitely room for improvement.

Perhaps Dadi struggled because the service he got was bad?

I thought Hearfield had a great game, he did alot of work getting back to try and stop the quick counter and was often the last man on defence.

I was originally sceptical about Dadi, but then he had a whale of a debut and i htough ok, maybe i was wrong. (big concession for me) However, since then he looks lazy at times and disinterested and he goes down easier than a bangkok ladyboy.

A target man whould not go down as ofter and as easily as he does, especially when its so obvious that he has not recieved a single free kick once through his theatrics.

If he was still at Perth and he did that against us (played the same way) we'd call him a cheating git who is sh*te!

Reddy is class!!

Still think the gameplan is wrong playing so much speculative ball forward to Dadi. I agree, he does spend too much time tumbling end over end and looking agrieved at the ref, but he was always a more dangerous player at Perth when they were moving the ball around on the deck, which Perth did very well at times last season.

More than generous I'd say. We were borderline awful at times - couldn't win a defensive header the whole game, butchered a number of promising counter-attacks, and it was only Reddy's class and some woeful finishing from Adelaide that spared us some major blushes here.

How people can rate Durante and McKain so highly when Adelaide looked like scoring every time a high ball came into our box baffles me the most of all.

In the first we were terribly guilty of hoofing a lot of long stuff - and our first instinct, even when pressure was minimal, seemed to be to whack it rather than be constructive. Not sure if the presence of Dadi is a factor, but seemed to be a lot more hoofin than usual.

Agree. Often the hoof would put the opposition in a better position to have another go.
Would like to see the players back themselves abit more and try and retain possession.
Most of the ratings here are over rated.
We still aren't playing well and were lucky we played Adelaide and not a team who knows how to score goals.

A lot of the hoofing seemed to be a sign of defensive insecurity after two bad defeats. There was a panicky feel to the whole performance. Adelaide played a short passing game from back to front which was the much more sensible approach because of the hardness of the surface.

Yet ironically whenever they did put the ball  into the box in the air they were winning most of the headers. Our previously strong aerial presence seems to have well and truly disappeared over the last 3 or 4 games and I can't work out why. We look especially vulnerable at setpieces.

The hoofing problem lies almost 100% with McKain.  Other defenders we have, yes they'll hoof it if necessary, but often they'll have a look round and try get a pass off.  McKain on the other hand, no sir, he'll just put his foot straight through it like a rugby player playing his first footy game.

Still love him though.

I'd say Durante is a much more worse offender than McKain in that respect.

I'd say the whole lot of them are offenders.
You've won the ball, respect it and look after posession.
A hoof should be the very very very last resort.
We're way to keen to give away corners too.
Panic attacks against GCU and they could wipe that 6 nil memory.
Hoping we serve it up to them again, as do most other A league supporters.
