Its horrible starting the week with depression, if only, if only

Mossy 6 Not really a lot to do
Boxall 6 Had Zullo in his pocket, had a header lined up if only Brockie hadn't got to it first, A fullback's volley though
Siggy 5.5 Was going to rate higher, until he was arguing with the ref upfield while they won a penalty
Dura 5.5 Had a real good game first half, then a silly dive in to give them the pen
Timmins 4.5 Bring back Lochie. Why didn't he (Timmins) play on????
Lia 5.5 Had to do a lot of covering other people's men
Manny 6 Lovely ball for Stein, did well
Ridenton 5.5 Some good turns, out muscled at times
Kenny 5.5 Almost scored a great goal, hungry
Stein 5.5 Should have scored. Faded
Brockie 5.5 Good shot on goal that Galek was lucky to stop, worked hard ish
Carlos 6 Considering he was always under pressure from several players, did well with the ball a number of times.
Roy 5 Didn't get in the game much, well done Adelaide
Boyd 5 Ditto

Oh well, the local leagues are starting and we can  have some other performances to worry about.

Oi Oi Edgecumbe... lets have a clean sheet

Would not give Manny a 6. He was the person that cost us the goal. He did not stay with the runner forcing Dura to have to come across and tackle.

Way harsh on Timmins, IMO.

He was very poor in the first half to be fair.

Not a great 1st half, but thought he was excellent in the 2nd. Shouldn't have played the ball out, but otherwise, thought he was really good.

Would give him a 5.5 or 6.

He was a bit unlucky. Who would've thought Elrich would make such a hash of that final touch? If he he had taken the shot as 9 out of 10 players would in the situation Durante would've been across with a good block instead. It was so hapless from both players that I almost laughed.

In defense of Timmins, he took a yellow card for the team very early (IIRC Adelaide had a couple of players unmarked out wide and there was no cover) and after that might have been a bit wary of committing to a challenge and copping another yellow if he mistimed it. Given recent refereeing performances that'd be justified. His passing wasn't the best though.

Timmins is a far better player than Lochhead.

Wasn't Timmins's yellow card the one where he just completely missed the ball in a tackle and lumped the player when there wasn't really anything on for Adelaide?

I thought it was when Adelaide were shifting the ball wide where they had a couple of players open and there was no one there because Timmins had had to come in a bit to cover our CBs and if he hadn't clattered the Adelaide guy their winger would've had nothing but the ball at his feet and acres of space in front of him. But that was just my immediate impression and. I didn't catch the replay or anything so I admit I could have that completely wrong.

Yeah, Patrick's right - he had a clear shot on the ball, completely missed it and took out Carrusca. Pretty poor piece of defending really.

Interesting, I thought Dura was going directly for the ball (if you're looking to block the shot you usually dive a little bit in front of the ball to reduce chance of bad deflections), trying to get it out for a corner. I think he was anticipating a shot with Elrich's next shot, and backed himself to get to the ball before Elrich and knock it out. It backfire horribly when Elrich just nudged the ball forward a bit (if he was really smart he could have been playing for a penalty if he sensed Dura's challenge coming, but I don't think I can give him that much credit).

Thought Timmins got  better as the game progressed

Would rate manny lower as I thought he was an accident waiting to happen, his frustration was starting to get into yellow card territory a bit too much

Stein and brockie as a pairing was crap, on this performance no-one will want Stein and as for Brockie...just not good enough

Bizzare with Timmins getting best player. He was good in the second half but absolutely dreadful in the first. I thought Siggy or Moss were the best out of a pretty average effort.

Manny had a shit of a game and Timmins did ok, you also forgot the big surging run he did from his own goal are right up to the left wing with ball at foot. If he had some support, it might have helped. Timmins might not be flash but he's the better left back we currently have. Lochhead was decent enough but he gave away a fair bit too. Excellent at surging runs only to do some poor crossing.

I agree, and think he was quite poor defensively in the first half (and they were quite obviously targeting him). But then again I never saw Lochy do some of the things that Timmins did in the 2nd half offensively.

For the record, my observations from the match (without watching a replay and probably not wanting to put myself through that anyway).

Mossy 6 Hard to rate, because other than the penalty (which you can't blame him for) he didn't really do much. Seemed to be pretty vocal in telling people where to go, and generally solid. Came out when he needed to.

Boxall 6.5 Did his core job well defensively, and is becoming a good outlet offensively. Fluffed that volley, but it wasn't the easiest of chances.

Siggy 7 Brought a measure of solidity back to our backline, and you can't argue about his passion to be there. Other than one glaring error I was actually pretty happy with our CBs.

Dura 6.5 Real shame about the penalty, because other than that I thought he was good. Bailed out Timmins a number of times in the first half.

Timmins 5 They targeted him in the first half (maybe because of the early yellow?) and he looked all at sea. But then he improved in the second half and did some very good things offensively. A real mixed bag.

Lia 6 I actually thought this was one of Vinny's better games in the DM role, and he kept their midfield pretty quiet. But he and Manny still tend to be a bit too physical at times, which gives their divers the opportunity to hit the ground and win free kicks. In this game with that ref it became a problem.

Manny 5 As above but worse, and in one of the replays it definitely looked like he clocked Carrusca with a deliberate passing knee to the head which just isn't on. Dropped his man for the penalty, but then put in a lovely ball to Stein. Today was the first time I started to think that maybe his reputation (thug) is justified and it could be an ongoing problem for us.

Ridenton 4 One lovely ball through to Kenny (I think) but other than that I thought he was all over the place. Running around a lot but doing very little offensively or defensively. Has great talent, but is not there yet.

Kenny 5.5 Another hard one to rate. Can be a bit impulsive at times with rash tackles or shoves, but also offers some much needed spark for us in attack. Probably not offering enough cover for his FB in his new deeper role.

Stein 4 Disappointing game from Stein. We need for him to be able to bury those one on ones, and he didn't really offer much else that I saw. I don't think it's helping that we seem to be changing our formation every 20 minutes.

Brockie 5.5 Was working pretty hard I thought, but without a lot of reward.

Carlos 6 He really needs to start ahead of Ridenton. Just threatened so much more, and is a master at holding up the ball in traffic, to give time for everyone else. Still not getting around much, but I can live with that.

Roy 5.5 Pretty quiet. I think it was his cross that Boxall almost got a head on at the end? By the time he came on we were starting to lose our structure a bit.

Boyd 6.5 Actually thought his was quite a good cameo, with some nice touches, added some pace, and even helped out defensively at times. No idea why he didn't start ahead of Brockie.

Lochhead was starting to slow down. The run down the wing and then a slow return to position. Also his crossing had gone to pieces. Early on at the Nix, he was great at those two things but then perhaps complacency took over as there were no challenges for his position. He and Timmins would make it a lot more interesting but age is not forgiving.

Timmins is our 4th choice LB. Caira started there, then Manny, then JBS. I actually think Caira was starting to look like he could do the job before his injury, and Manny looked better there than he has in any other role this year (although obviously helped by Riera playing in DM and shielding the back). All of those, apart from Manny, are young and only going to get better with experience. Lochhead was ageing, slowing down, and presumably asking for more money than the kids would expect. Because of that I think the Lochy vs Timmins argument needs to consider the bigger picture. Personally I think people are being overly positive about what I thought was a pretty average performance from Timmins, but that doesn't mean that they were overly harsh on poor performances from Lochy when he was here, or that we'd be better off if we'd kept him.

I'm sorry but many, many people were overly harsh on Lochhead.  He is still by a good margin the best left back to play for this club and none of the options used this season are close to him yet if you read the history on here his departure was a cause for celebration.

That has proven (as a vocal minority said at the time) to have been a disaster.

Lochhead was/is a perfectly capable A-League left back, not many clubs have one and we no longer do.

Prior to Sunday's game did anyone have an issue with Timmins, no. In fact most were pretty positive and considering he's come from the nzfc he's done pretty well.

Yes Sundays game was so so, mainly because of the first half, be he was actually quite positive and effective in the second half.

I'll take on bad half over a lochead season of mediocrity any day of the week.

Timmins has shown generally to be better in the air the Lochead and certainly better with the ball at feet. His positional sense may not be great but then again his natural position is CB so thats understandable.

Whilst his passing game was a little shite it has generally been sound and is better than lochy's but MOST IMPORTANTLY... He can cross a ball.

lochy couldn't get anything past the first man... ever!!
