Sorry it's late, oh well... CCM played well in the first half and we did well to dominate the second. The wind didn't help the quality of the play.

Mossy 6 Could have cost us the game with his reckless penalty give away, but also kept us in it with the late save. He has been so consistent this season.
Boxall 5.5 Struggled first half, but a good second half, including almost setting up a winner.
Dura 6 Battled away well with Matt Simon all night.
Siggy 6 Ditto
Manny 7.5 Impressive in ball winning and creating.
Lia 7.5 Some tough tackles and mostly very good passing, a very good combination with Reira
Riera 7.5  Becoming quite a commander in the midfield
Carlos 5.5 We know he's not at his best, but did work hard throughout and a few very good passes. Set pieces disappointing
Stein 6 Did well, but not many opportunities
Brockie 5 Not much service at all
Kenny 6.5 Nice goal, some other good work, had a Totori moment after getting on a good run.
Boyd 5.5 Worked hard, with another ref could have won a penalty
Hicks 5 Ditto
Roy 5 A few errors, but was fouled when he had his best chance
Wind 8 Dominated the game superbly
Officials Hmmm
Crowd Disappointing numbers, though it looked like more than 7000 to me
YF Good effort on some of the long chants and the banner was spot on and well held in the wind

Your opinion?

It was another game where I was disappointed by Carlos. Our attack just seems to slow up when he gets the ball and too often he gets caught in possession. I would rather Waffles play the #10 role, more likely to get a quick pass & move to get in behind the defenders.

Riera's signing is probably as good as Manny's...he's been impressive.

I know I've been harping on about Carlos, and I know that Ernie will keep persisting with him, but I agree that his speed relative to others around him means he is unlikely to get anywhere near penalty box unless it is a set piece. And I have not seen a single bomb from outside the penalty box as yet this season, which is equally disappointing. A motivational call from Tim Brown may be on order?

Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days

From what I've seen he's basically playing as a younger & slightly quicker ADP. E.g. gently jog/walk up and down the middle of the field waiting for the right time to pull the trigger. The main difference being that whereas ADP has been pulling a couple of bits of magic out of the hat (a set piece, through ball, shot from the edge of the box) each game for SFC, thus far Carlos really hasn't produced that many.

^^^^ this, still can't fathom why we allowed the extension to his contract - even if it was appearance based, I just can't figure out why he's been started of late above the likes of Hicks or Ridenton - they may be young but for mine they offer more.

this the ratings were fair - mossy's peno give away needs to be tempered with the fact the ball should never have got there, the ref missed a blatant push to one of our guys which should have been blown up before the foul from moss - justice was served with what has to go down as the worst penalty attempt ever!

Brockies in the WC was just as bad although he did get it on target.

If you are old and wise you were probably young and stupid

Think Roys rating was a bit too high to be honest. Really hope his positional play improves, which i'm sure it will over time. But against the Mariners he looked really lost and didnt fit into the Phoenix jigsaw. Probably would give a 4 at the highest.

And no, i'm not a Roy hater. I think he has natural strikers instinct. Just rating him from what I saw however.

that's the way I saw it, ref clearly didn't but I think he and the linesmen were having a very off day.

Wow. I think thats a little harsh. I thought he did well when he came on. He didn't have much time to get used to the team but he was showing for the ball and played some decent one and two touch passes. A little more time and I think he will start to be able to get in behind and use his pace. A 4 would suggest he had a bad game. Can't remember anything that he did which was that bad.

As well I now have quite a bit of confidence in Ernie in the fact he obviously knows what a lot of players capabilities are even from only seeing them play a few times. If he has already given Roy time I think it shows this guy has already impressed some what at trainings to warrant this time. I wouldn't be suprised if Ernie wants him to push for a starting spot further into the season.

I see Manny and Kenny both made the FFA's team of the week. Well done to them.
