This is understandable but contrary to some points on this thread - in Europe I have definitely seen it happen a few times where an internal appointment with experience on the youth side of the club has taken the first team head coach role, given it a go and in the end has returned back to the reserves/youth side.
Greenacre is a legend of the club and providing he didn't burn any bridges as first team coach would be welcome to stick around in another capacity if it didn't work out.

Klimkova did better at the World Cup than through pretty much any other spell of her leadership. Not convinced there's any evidence Ricki would have done better especially at short notice

He might well enjoy a bit of job security. I’d say 99% of us have jobs for life whereas 99% of coaches only have a job for a season or two bar your Wengers, Fergusons etc.
I image he enjoys stepping up in a temporary measure knowing his job is safe unlike Cheify who might be signing on in a few weeks.

Also zero experience as far I know of, coaching in the women's game. It's different.
My team just literally fired our coach, who had successful experience coaching u17 boy's rep squads, because he just couldn't comprehend "woman-management"

I’m preety sure he has applied at least the last 3 rounds.
He's been the interim boss three times, and as Coochie says he's had someone else with him who had the badges. Whether he has applied for the perm role is unknown. I dont think the club has ever provided a list of applicants.
you can be an interim coach without the required qualifications for a certain number of games, why when the Des/Greenie management team was extended to the end of the season Des had to be made head coach on paper. I don't think Greenie has ever applied to be head coach as he's never been able to be one until recently.

As I said in the match thread yesterday, I highly doubt that if Des had any intention of seeking the job for next season that he would have been on a TV panel interviewing Chiefy. Would probably be unprofessional of him and Sky TV to do that.

i think he could have gone on the broadcast no problem, just probably should have recused himself from the after match panel interviewing Chiefy if he was hoping to take his job. The role is pseudojournalistic and as such there is something of an expectation of impartiality.
But I believe that Des probably doesn't intend to seek the Nix job at this stage, and as such there is probably no conflict of interest here.ClubOranje

Yeah I wouldn't want Des coaching them if he is ok with interviewing the current coach how he did yesterday... it is a mad conflict of interest and completely unprofessional if he is being considered for the job
But it's all hypothetical atm right? Chief still has the job and des was doing something while unemployed. I don't get the issue if at the end of the season we let chief go and Des applies for the job. Remember the title of this thread is possible replacements.

It's so unlikely that the club replaces Chiefy. There's no ambition or ruthlessness within upper management. I'm pretty sure Kalezic is the only permanent manager that the club decided to let go, the rest all left themselves under no pressure from the club. Chiefy has made it very clear he plans on staying. The club have made no noises that they are even considering the possibility that Chiefy won't be retained.
But part of me wonders if the abysmal crowd last weekend might have some people at Nix HQ thinking. If the remaining two home games saw even worse turnouts, might that get them to do something? I think it'd be pretty easy, if overall fan sentiment was that Chiefy had to go, to engineer such low attendances that Welnix's hand would be forced. Though that's of course hypothetical, I think there is very little Chiefy out sentiment around given the circumstances.

My bad. 8.5 K are All home games, including the 14k game in Christchurch 6.5 K is only Sky Stadium Would be 7.2 K all ‘Home’ games including our Christchurch fans if my math is correct.

To be fair that attendance is not even close to being the lowest in the A League this season. Some teams have got nowhere near 3000, while Melb City, who are 3rd on the table and play great football, barely cracked 3000 in one of their games.
I'm not saying we should dismiss low attendance figures but times have changed for every A League club. Long gone are the good old days when MV/Sydney/WSW were pulling in 20-30k plus most weeks. AFC are riding the wave at the moment but nothing lasts forever.
So in terms of the A-League, we're having pretty solid attendances, although last match was obviously poorly attended. We're one of the most variable teams
Auckland have been at the top of the table for practically the whole season and will win the plate easily with games to spare. Kiwis love winners so why aren't their games selling out?
Anyway back on topic, I don't think we are getting a new coach or saying hello to a former coach. May as well bid adieu to our off contract players too.

Plenty of empty blue seats before kick off. Considering they could wrap up the Toilet seat pretty much today, it should be jam packed. I do laugh at Melbourn City though. We're winning everything and still get crap crowds.
