Probably heard about 20 people sitting around me question why Fenton was at right back

I am interested in what Lindsay did. From what I read here, he didn't stand out. Now for all those 'give him a go' brigaders, if he is not standing out in a team with 1st teamers largely not playing against a CL team (and I don't know their strength on this particular friendly) what's he going to do in the heat of battle in an HAL game. This is why he does not play - because he is not good enough.

And there endth the lesson.

Nobody stood out as such, except maybe Durante and Stein.

Did we not learn from the Bertos right back trial?

I like to think if they've got the pace they can use that to their advantage to recover while they're learning the defensive trade. Not optimal, but if you can't find the kind of right back you want, plan b would be to craft one out of your wingers.

Hes the person you want to try at RB imo not fenton.

I think Lindsay did play RB as sub for one game as wasn't nearly as 'good' as Leo

I mean yeah in a way JV you're right but nothing wrong with championing a guy we've ACTUALLY watched. I do think, and i said this before if he was in the final year of his contract like Downey etc he would've been cut for sure.
I feel likes he's hardly played any football in three years though. Problem?

That's what I want to see, players EARN their playing time. I hope he proves me wrong and comes back hard because that's good for the Phoenix but I don't see it and I don't advocate giving him a go for the sake of it. It's professional sport, not kids morning football.

I guess its a case of watch this space

I don't disagree with what you are saying, but there is a line between championing our players, and championing our players that are not good enough.

Didn`t Lindsay play a full game for the All Whites against the Solomons Is in the dead World Cup Qualifer.....So Ricki must see some potential there. Shame we didn`t see that game to gauge his ability

Yeah, but Ricki saw some potential in Toto. And in Totori.

I keep hearing this but we conceded a ridiculous amount of goals, we're not allowed to scapegoat Lochhead, Sigmund and Durante are two of our best players so whose left??

I really hope we're only doing this if Fenton is seen as a long term option at RB (i.e. a permanent switch) - it's too early in his career for him to be filling holes I think.  He still needs to learn his position and the A-League before starting to get him to switch around - it just seems a bit unfair on him really.  If it doesn't work out it's a year down the drain too

I don't think Siggy had a particularly good season last year. Some of the blame also has to lie with the completely nonexistent midfield.

I think you're going far too easy on the back 4 there, we were so disorganised at times.  But I agree, Sigmund's place really shouldn't be guaranteed this season.

Is Ernie really trying to convert Fenton into a RB or did we just not have any options for this game, so pushed him back there? We only had 2 on the bench, our squad is very sparce at the moment.

As usual I think folks are reading way too much into a preseason kick about.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

And it was little more than a kick about. Russell was probably pissed offhe ended up with akit to wash. Could they have not played skins v shirts FFS.

I'm going on pineys tweets which were that he's being tried there to see if he's an option in the position and Merrick thinks he has the attributes

Isnt that what pre season is about, trying things out.Wouldnt it be great if come the end of the season we are all praising Merrick for his insight.Prefer to see these things pre season than done cold during the season.

@PaulIfill pretty good mate. Surgery went really well and I'm starting to recover. Won't be long till I'm able to jog.

In the DOmPost article on Fenton this a.m. it also mentions Boyd has a broken wrist and played through the U20's World Cup with it..legend.
