So we had a goal scorer that could have been a guy that was in a different city with a German accent that was in the midfield but could have been a left footer playing at right back if he was not invisible in the game with a midget striker playing at the back and a guy that played 25mins but never played at all...

How can so many pairs of eyes get it so wrong? *facepalm*

Can someone give us some hard definitive facts?

Nix White started with:

Spoonley Gulley Sigmund Boxall Caira Lia Muscat Hernandez Ifill Huysegems Boyd

Gulley -> Adams at HT
Ifill -> Watson after 30m
Caira -> Shermy -> Caira
Carlos -> ?
Lia -> Hicks I think.

Bertsch got the goal for Nix Black.

Don't want to join the bandwagon on Lia, but some of his passing was atrocious. To be fair he did break up some play, shave the upright with a nice long range shot, and put Huysegums away with one lovely ball. But on today's showing I'd take Riera any day of the week (if it was between the two). Btw I was surprised Riera only got one half for the black team, I would have liked to have seen more.

Lineups swapped a bit but I think 1st half white team was mainly...
Keeper (Spoonley? - I can't tell)
Gulley  Siggy Boxhall Caira
Manny Lia
Boyd Stein Carlos Ifill

2nd half was mostly
Keeper
Sherminator Siggy Boxhall Adams
Manny Lia
Boyd Stein Carlos Watson

One guy that surprised me was Watson. I wouldn't mind if he got a few chances off the bench for us this season. Strong on the ball, and connected well with those around him.

Also, I've been critical of Caira in the past, but thought he was very good in the 1st half. Shermy didn't impress at all, I'd take Gulley over him. And Adams didn't look very comfortable at LB at all.

Yep thanks Jeff Vader. Sounds like it was Hicks. Definitely worth more of a look.

Adams was at right back, not left. I didn't think Shermy played for the white team at all.

Agree about Watson. Be happy to see him given a shot.

Back in midfield, I just don't think we can play Manny and Lia. Should be one and someone better on the ball.

he's pretty sharp.  plays as an attacking midfielder or left wing.  played for waikato, then auckland, then left auckland half way through last season and has resurfaced at TW

was in the NZ olympic squad for the oceania qualifiers, but missed the london games

recently started for nz a against the phoenix in rotorua

Have always been a fan of Hicks', would fit in very well with what Merrick wants to do, could be a handy bench option to have. As somebody who watched him plenty at Waikato I really hope he can push on, the talent is there

Sorry, yep Adams at RB not LB. Getting my lefts and rights mixed up.
Sherminator definitely finished the game at LB for the whites. Swapped with someone (can't remember who, maybe Caira) halfway through.

It would have been nice if one team played in the home strip and the other in the away strip.

We would have at least been able to recognise some players.

And thanks for the beers beforehand!

Bertsch scored for the other team. Lia played really well aside from 2 or 3 characteristically bad passes. Hate to say it but I don't see much in Tyler Boyd or Hamish Watson yet. Not too much to get excited about. Probably shouldn't read too much into it as it was only a training run though.

Was great fun to see everyone at the Bencher again. I'm genuinely excited for the season for the first time in a while. Game was fairly interesting I thought. We definitely have changed style of football and I'm happy about that.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

A nice hit out today and some good play on show with some nice new talent (wouldn't have a clue who was who) as well as some of the old guard looking rejuvenated (Leo put himself about nicely and Brockie put in a good shift).
Think the team will still need to step it up a few notches for the season proper, but good signs.

Agree style has changed out of sight . As one of the lads I was with pointed out, there wasn't one long ball played the whole game. Not sure we've quite got the personnel or execution yet though.

That is unreasonably harsh. Tyler Boyd was superb... _IF_ what you are looking for was someone who could take an extra touch unnecessarily, delay shooting until the opportuity had eroded into a half chance, and then blaze the ball way over the corssbar.

He's got that completely down pat.

So come on, credit where credit is due...

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Phoenix fans. We have to win them over one fan at a time.

Arrgh! My boy has ACFC top which he got one year ago when they stareted making them in kids sizes. Always irks when kids are wearing penix at Kiwitea.

Meaningless game and meaningless result... Maybe.

If something good could be taken from it, perhaps that could be increased visibility for the under funded, under appreciated asbp. Perhaps, along with acfc's positive result against ccm a couple of years ago we could finally see that our own league is worth attending. That it is worth investing time, money, resources and media coverage in because as well as providing the majority of nzers with a meaningful competition that is accessible to more than just Wellington, that the standard is decent also...

Sadly, I don't see this as a likely outcome. Once the glamourous Australian team rolls out of town, the media lights and football fans will go home and wait for the next time a 'quality' overseas team comes to town.

Man, you're either a troll, or mildly developmentally impaired.

NZF don't give the ASBP the love it deserves. But under-funded? When your club has the budget it has? Hardly. Maybe ACFC could divert some money from the squad into promoting fixtures and try to draw a crowd themselves?

Remember Welnix? Them what own the licence for the Nix. They're sinking their money into the Phoenix. And that money is what brings the bright lights and media.

Stop being so God damned miserable. Lots of good can and did come from that game. I hope it happens every year.

Ali is Scottish, it's his job to be miserable. Sorry Ali, I owe you a beer. He's actually a great ASBP supporter and a good lad, wish there were more like him.

I accept the beer in Wellington in two weeks - I think Smithy also offered to buy me a beer there...

At the acfc vs nix game I was sitting near a family and the kids all had acfc gear on but the whole game they were dropping phoenix players names. Me and my mate noticed it, don't think we heard them say a lot about the acfc players - they could have but I didn't hear it.

What I'm saying is their parents are probably acfc/football fans who let their kids watch the nix on tv - where they learn all the names. Bit less likely a kid is going to imitate acfc players in the back yard with no tv coverage. Tv would make it a bigger deal for a kid. Tv = stars, live at local park = amateur nobodies. Kids perspective.

Rather redundant conversation as ACFC is our feeder club anyway.

Works perspective too. Which is why I can get weekends off for nix games but they look at me funny when I ask for TW games. As a result I barely get to any TW games in the past. Hopefully that is different this season as I seem to be getting Sundays off work regularly.
