So I was in Auckland for a long weekend up from Welly and I went along to the game on Saturday - Nice set up at Kiwitea street. I sat in the grandstand about 6 rows below the Auckland City FC core supporters. Around me were families with kids supporting ACFC. Strange, I didn't see an knitting needles???
My take on the whole experience: I loved it - I didn't have any pre hopes for the game, just that I was there to watch a game of football...
The weather - typical Auckland 4 seasons in one day (but cleared come game time)
Pre-Match entertainment - Some fella rocking out to Thin lizzy singing 'the boys are back in town' over and over and over and over... but the crowd in the stand liked it.
Game Time - Well Auckland City came to play from the start and the Nix didn't, ACFC should of scored within the first minute.....hit the post. That set the tone for the first half with ACFC having multiple chances - backed up by some great saves from Spoonley. With the Nix having a couple of chances one by Sigmund that needed a top save from the Auckland keeper.
If things has panned with that first shot going in it could have been 3-1 easily at halftime.
Second Half - Coaches ring the changes and the Nix start to get more ball. but can't do much with it.
Auckland scored a late goal that was a bit out of nowwhere from where i was sitting in the stand and I thought Moss should have saved it. However, the Auckland fans were up and at 'em when they scored - Well done! And with Auckland winning the game it was a fair result. (It could have been 5-2 if some of the shots had beaten the keepers)
So, I was impressed with ACFC and the fans had there chants going from time to time. I'd welcome more games in the future as some have mentioned prior. Either @ Kiwitea again or in Welly.
Both teams played below strength linups - would the result have been different if both were at full strength? - is irellevant untill it actually happens...
I can't wait for the inter squad game on Sunday!
Cheers,
