There is a lot to do and a lot of potential drama this off season
But if we are going to do well
My biggest hope is Davila comes back to us next season. We have spent years trying to find an attacking import of his quality
Now we have found him we have to keep him

Left back and two 10-15+ goals a season strikers
This was in the Phoenix press release about which players are travelling to NZ, or staying in Aus etc
"In addition Stefan Marinovic, Liberato Cacace and Callum McCowatt have elected to travel to Europe directly from Australia for personal reasons"
We know Libby is going there to sign for his new club, are the other 2 doing the same? Trials maybe?

Marinovic’s partner is German. Possibly going to visit her family, or she may have already gone back to Deutschland months ago, esp if she lost her job in NZ (pharmacist?).
But McCowatt is off contract, and with so many of his ex Ole/ES mates playing in Europe, plus Declan based in Sweden - it wouldn’t surprise if he was looking to move there. It was a bit of a surprise to see him sign for the Nix in the first place, and he was not really as successful as hoped. But given how difficult quality new signings will be for season 2020/21, he will be a loss if he goes.
Helsingor, where Just and Wilkins are could be an option? Danish 2nd Div a reasonable level, and ambitious American club owners.
I guess it means 3 more AWs are in Europe, if by chance that Belgium game happens in October.

He was definitely a bit hit and miss but I felt grew stronger as the season progressed. Much like the rest of the team, was a shame Covid happened. Another season with the nix would have done him the world of good imo, but who knows.
Dome was quoted as saying with the new restrictions on salary etc, next year will have a more kiwi flavour correct with young players getting a shot... correct.
I don't pay for the Herald to confirm... but was told this was said on the radio??
Lewis, JHS and McGarry must come into the recokning?

With another 4 or 5 months before the A league will be up and running again can't blame McCowatt for giving Europe a try. Didn't Rufer do a similar thing a few years back. Wonder if McCowatt feels he was played out of position in Talays formation.
Would certainly like to see him back at the Nix though

I havent been following much of Myer Bevan recently in local leagues, but he could be worth a shot perhaps?
Myer 'Peno' Bevan.

Talay bought him in for a look, last year.

Is he not staying at Brisbane? He only moved there from the Jets last season.
Bevan is an interesting call. Got goals at Auckland, admittedly a lot from the spot... but has professional experience and would be in our price range if the salary cap drops.
Talay nay have said no, more because we had Hooper in the mix etc, that he did not think he was up to scratch???
Brockie is keen to come back!
When does the Indian Super League season start/conclude?

He was just signed to the end of the season, but by all accounts he's had a good performance so he might stay on.

Had a look at the ISPS stats and made interesting reading.
Bevan on top with 15 of which 5 were pens.
Then second was Bueno with 11 of which 3 were pens.
Tied on 11 was Schnell with 1 pen.
Then there was Selemani with 10 with 1 pen. Coughlan , Tieku and Watson were all on 8 and JHS and Waine on 7. (Waine played less games as did Watson)
So not may local strikers stepping up at that level and shows me how important guys like Krishna and Hooper were to the team, so my wish would be either back!

Just had a wee daydream of a team with both
Bunk him up with Davilla so he feels more at home. Our big advantage is that the media won't be in his face 24/7 like they are in Spain etc. Here, he'd have some peace and quiet.
Well it isn't going to be a 20/21 season, now not predicting they will be back until early next year. https://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/football/a-league/300095713/waiting-game-for-wellington-phoenix-as-aleague-eyes-2021-restart

Start of A League season 2020/2021 is likely a long way away.
But in interesting news AFL Grand Final is to be held in Brisbane, with full Gabba crowd (30,000 allowed).
First time ever not at the MCG.
I think FFA/NLWG will be considering idea of having hubs spread over various locations (those states where crowds are allowed) incl maybe NZ. At least to start the season.
Also makes sense to play games in those states where no quarantine is required with certain other states, ie can you travel between SA and QLD without quarantine.
And also is always possibility borders will be reopened to Victoria and NSW by say early 2021.

actual chances of a NZ hub?
Whether Rugby Championship is held in NZ or not will be important.
Is planned 3 overseas teams will self isolate in Queenstown for 2 weeks, with training allowed. But maybe only gym work the first week.
If that happens then I think a NZ A League mini hub of say 4 teams in front of crowds for 6-8 weeks at least becomes an option to start the season. Other mini hubs elsewhere. More an option if crowds still not possible in NSW and VIC.
Problem is when teams return to Australia 2 weeks quarantine/self isolation could be required. Maybe that happens over say March FIFA window when AWs and Socceroos (potential A League selections - esp AWs in OFC) are likely to be in action, and so A League takes a 2 week pause.
But who knows what will happen. So many moving parts. I just think FFA/NLWG will be looking for some options to have crowds. A hub with no crowds just looks and feels pretty shark.
who knows. The Nix would have to be pretty vocal about wanting it.
If other A League teams played in a NZ hub there would be no crowds anyway so why bother>?

Royz for once you make some sense. Though I do know 1 Smurfs fan that lives at Whitby!
Take them to places like Napier or Nelson, with a football community but they never see A League games.
Or just play them as the curtain raiser to the Nix at the ROF, and sell cheap double header tickets. Something like that. I’m only suggesting having 4 teams in NZ for about 6-8 weeks to start the season.
But who knows. The virus makes life ever changing. I just think crowds are way more preferable than empty stadia. But yeah costs may just see all the teams in one hub again, if it's cheaper that way. Maybe SE QLD this time if Covid persists in VIC and NSW, with a hope later on that borders open up fully.
SE QLD has nearly 4 million people (many expat Victorians and NSW folk) and lots of boutique rectangular stadia. Robina, Ballymore, Perry Park, Redcliffe, Stockland on Sunshine Coast. Could even take games to likes of Cairns and Townsville. Roar games still at Suncorp. And at the moment crowds.
QLD Govt is currently openly pursuing sporting events, and getting the AFL Granny is a real feather in their cap. WA and SA both have bigger stadiums than the Gabba, and are true Aussie Rules states, so they won’t be happy. Presume QLD State Govt offered more dough to the AFL. QLD is also scheduled to host 2 Bledisloe Cup games next month.
If they could do this without giving everyone the goddamn COVID, this would be a great idea. That's a big IF.
well witht he way some sports people dont listen to rules I think borders opening and having teams here is getting less and less likely. Only this morning there is a report of 2 engllish players meeting two women in the icelandic hotel breaking their bubble - too many reports of bad behaviour
NZ Football to other NZ Sport Codes: Welcome to our world! In fact we can't remember the last time we scheduled a home fixture but don't worry you get used to it pretty quick!
