PS v Wairarapa United | Wed 24 Jul | 5:30PM | Trusthouse Stadium, Masterton
Shame it's not on the weekend.
Yeah I was going to go. Don't mind paying if the $ goes to a local club either.
Hopefully more friendlies in town will be confirmed soon.
Yippee, the Nix come to town again. We'll be there in spades.

You might want to wear a jacket too!
Good point, spades aren't the warmest for this time of year.
I hope we win
saw Wairarapa play Wharf a few weeks back. IIRC, Wharf put 6 past them. So, yes, you'd certainly hope Nix could ease past them too.
Moved from the Ball Thread
Based on his experience playing as a 10 recently. I really don't think Ufuk has signing him with the intention of trying to use him as a traditional striker. I've got a feeling we're gonna try play like Liverpool and have the wingers being the players who get the bulk of our goals, with Ball linking the play together and holding the ball up.
Doubt that Rapa game will be a good indication of anything, they've been abysmal in the Central League this season so it's hardly likely to be a decent pre-season hit out. Suspect the game is more about engaging fans in the Wairarapa catchment.

TBH I wouldn't take anything from this game, its a pure 1st up pre-season game, to get some match fitness and give everyone a run unless Rapa get a few guest players in it'll end up 9 or 10-0.
I remember seeing Appiah score 3 in a game like this against a 2nd/3rd string Miramar side and everyone raved about how great he was and he'd be fantastic........
Does anyone know the starting line up for this game?

How cum we don't get to play Man U or Leeds? for friendly's but stuck playing 3rd rate park football teams?.
Er, because they're super expensive to organise?
The Phoenix always begin their pre season with a warm up or two against Central League opposition. It is not intended to be a fixture that draws a crowd, these games are simply a chance to put their training into practice in a match scenario.
Still would be nice get another big name club preseason event... Maybe next year now that the clubs future is "sorted"
I’d be quite happy to play teams of the same calibre as West Ham and Newcastle like last time rather than the big guns tbh.

I would be happy to forego a game against a big name club this season as we are building a new squad from scratch, with no familiarity between the players to speak of. A preseason game next year might be a better show.
Will the game be streamed at all??
I highly doubt it.
Will the game be streamed at all??
I believe there may be a stream running alongside the stadium.
well would someone like to get down there with a cam and a YouTube account and livestream it please ;)
Or a smartphone and twitter account maybe...

That is astonishing
They filled the stadium all weekend, how the heck did they lose money?
Meanwhile over the ditch Leeds are in town.

Leeds game against Man U in Perth was basically underwritten by the WA State Govt, "through Tourism WA, VenuesWest and the Optus Stadium operator, VenuesLive" (from Leeds website). They have a big flash expensive new stadium now in Perth, and are no doubt trying to host as many high profile events as possible.
No idea about the the WSW game, but Sydney is a city of over 5M, and the commercial/sponsorship opportunities in Australia are in a different league to NZ. Knew a LUFC fan flew down from Brisbane for that game. Apparently a few thousand Leeds fans also flew out from the UK.
I note CCM & Jets are like the Nix, mostly just playing local teams pre season. Though Newcastle do host Hamilton Academical from Scotland in August. Young George Stanger's club.
That is astonishing

They didn't sell out in Wellington, only sold 20k tickets in Auckland, and sold 10k tickets in Dunedin.

The club won't bring anyone out here but if a event promoter thinks they can make money, then I'm sure the club will gladly play whoever they bring out. Good luck trying to convince the likes of Duco that that can make some money tho.

surely Sydney FC shared some of the costs.

From what I remember Sydney were just invited (the games were all in NZ remember). I remember Arnold at the time dismissing their poor performances as just a preseason hit out that they were asked to join.

This is the dumbest argument I've seen on here since, well...yesterday.
Make sure you wear pants tonight everyone. It's gonna be a cold one!
Something like this how we're lining up?
433 with Davila on the wing
Wests are playing the nix on Wednesday next week at 2pm! At Endeavour Park, apparently
Looks like a 4-4-2 ... Marinovic
Elliot Taylor DeVere Cacace; Davila Rufer Payne Devlin; Sotirio Ball— Jason Pine (@pineyzb) July 24, 2019
14' GOAL | Class build up from your #Nix as striker, Ball beats his man and slots it over to fellow attacker, Sotirio who claims the first goal with a finish from 6 yards out.#StandUpWithYourNix #WAIvWEL ?(0-1)?

No trialists on the bench
23' GOAL! | ? Pick that one out! #Nix attacker, Davila receives the ball inside the box. Twisting and turning, he evades his marker and releases a sumptuous curling effort into the far corner. Un-saveable.#StandUpWithYourNix #WAIvWEL ?(0-2)?
