jeez...what bad luck. Hopefully its not too serious. So now we have one fit striker in Greenacre and Putter injured and Astro back in lithuania. the season starts in 5 or 6 weeks....anyone else a little nervous.

This next month should be full on training for the WHOLE squad. Especially as we have a few new attackers to bed into the Phoenix system

I really think we should sign all three of those guys if they are up to it. Longer season with 27  games. Whats the chance that at least one of them will be down injured/suspended at any one time.

What's the chance the whole squad will be down sick or injured at the same time?

Every chance in the world!!

Are you suggesting our puns are below par, Valeo?

Based on the comments made by those who saw him play, and the fact we let him go back home, it would appear Astro didn't make the grade. Hopefully Putter will but very disappointing we won't get to see him play against the Victory.

We still have 2 strikers to sign (hopefully Putter will make the grade and be 1 of the 2) and the season kicks off in just 6 weeks.

Yep, a little nervous / worried - particularly given the injury record of Greenacre and Diego - we have to go in to the season with a full complement.

Better we wait than another Kwasnik failure... there are other options if these don't work out.

Stefan?
Feverish?
Bevan's Cat?

I'd take Bevan's cat.  Max is rubbish and Feverish only lasts five minutes before he sees red.

Sure hope so....but time is moving on. plus the european transfer season is also moving on. many players are now signed and settled for the upcoming season.

I guess we just hope that Putter turns up trumps....still I think they will still be looking for a taget striker.....Putter I think is more of a number 9

Feverish?

This reminds me of that exhibition game against the Chinese selection last pre-season. We were in the stand sitting next to a couple who though that Feverish was one of the Nix new signings for the season. I still remember the guy excitedly telling hie wife/gf/partner 'this new guy looks really good, I think he'll be a great signing for us this season'. I didn't have the heart to tell him the truth and embarras hime in front on his missus, but we all had a good chuckle...

according to the paper Putter flys out again midweek, but the club are trying to extend the visit to include the Mainland XI match. Disapointing for us to get our hopes up and never get to see him play.

Any chance he'll fly out with a contract in his pocket?

with no-one at the club having seen him play... Unlikely. As HN says i dont think the club want to pulll another "Kwasnic".

I really hope he gets an extension because he really sounds like he could prosper and exceed what Van Dijk did at Roar..

Wonder what other options we have then?

Didn't Ricky say in the paper we wouldn't give him a contract without seeing him play?

I'm surprised we bring out someone for only a week - even with one game arranged that's surely not enough time to determine whether he's a suitable signing.  Especially with such a long lead-in time to him getting out here.

He's probably buzzing round looking for as many trials as possible.

It is a real short trial for Putter but that seems to be the way these trials are being held. the lithuanian guy was gone by the 20th of June according to tony P, a real short time....then the team had a week off.

If Greenacre was "not ready" for the melbourne game does that mean he is injured to? either that or he spent the off season at macdonalds and now weighs 120kgs!!!!!!
If he wasn't injured why not give him 20mins at the end to give him some match play.

Still can't figure out why these trials are so short. If Putter goes home without anyone seeing him play and they admit that he would'nt get signed unseen then WHATS THE BLEEDING POINT!!

oh yes....just in case you had forgotten....the season starts in 5 and a bit weeks!!!

Meh... someone is OD'ing on angst.

Greenacre was taking a full part in training last Thursday albeit with his knee strapped.  He's not an ounce overweight,  but I imagine last week was the first training he'd done since early May when he got injured so it's understandable he's not ready.

Astroclaus played two full games and trained for ten days, that's a pretty long trial in this day and age.

Putter hasn't gone anywhere yet, but if the club suspect he's long term injured, or injury prone, or just doesn't have his heart in it, or doesn't fit the squad then they will let him go.

Having seen Gould and Trani in action quite a bit, as well as Tony and Ricki's judgement this season I don't care if we start the season with Greenacre, Costa and 'Party all the time' while the search continues...  if on 7 or 8 weeks we get the right player at the right price who is the right fit and wants to succeed like the club does.

A month ago I had an attack of the angsts but I have now found my happy place, it will get sorted and I accept it may not even get sorted by the opening game.  If so, then the joy of it being sorted can wait for once we have a couple of early wins under our belt.

Wait a minute, lets be realistic, we are behind the eight ball with signings and assembling a team. I think people are making excuses for the team and Herberts been pre-occupied with the all whites. We do have an off-season for a reason, it is to get sh*t sorted and have a team ready to play from round one.  At this stage the nix could barely put together a team for pre-season and we look like we'll be starting the season on the back foot.

In his radio interview on ZB he said that the knee was "rock solid" and he thanked the Tranmere physios for the work they had done, he said he could have played, but he just isn't fit enough.

...and that is what we're using it for.  Astroclaus came and went while Ricki was away because they have faith in the assistants, players are constantly coming in and out trialling.  What would you rather we do, sign a George off a DVD, or perhaps a Kwasnik for a role that doesn't suit him ?

We've made those mistakes, now we're doing it right.  There is a reason the English transfer window is open until the end of August even though the season starts in the first week, as sides often need that time to find the right person.  To do this job properly takes time and we don't have enough money, or squad positions to take punts like we have been proven wrong on in the past.

The squad for the weekend fell victim to illness and other issues, you can't predict that 6 weeks out from the start of the season.  Find your happy place and believe and you will be surprised how much more stress free your life is.

Yep, gotta be realistic. IMO we will struggle to challenge this season and will probably come 7th at best. I wish I was more optimistic but with this squad we will be lucky to get 6th. Of course, there are still a few weeks to go so maybe we will make some outstanding signings but it's looking less likely every day. I think we will be relying too much on an inconsistant and easily breakable Diego and an unproven Greenacre, who, while he carries a good pedigree will at the moment be doing all of the work up front by himself.

I think that the the team - Tony P especially - have done all they can do assemble a squad that can compete but I think that it just hasn't been good enough. This isn't the fault of anyone but probably mostly because Wellington is seen as an unattractive place to go to for players. (not suprising considering our situation) I do applaud the way that we have handled trials etc. though I think the signing of Diego was rash.

Firstly, Diego wasn't broken for a sizeable chunk of the games that he was listed as injured for Adelaide.  He was caught in the middle of the general Pissantery that surrounded Adelaide.

I still want to see this list of players that have turned us down.  So far we have Alexander who got a new deal at Millwall who were at the time odds on for promotion to the Championship and Robbie Kruse... how is this millions of players that say no to us ?

We're trying players who are on paper A-League potential and have a list of more to come as those tried don't meet a very high standard that the club has set.  Much better that we should have signed a full squad in a panic and be rubbish than have room to sign the right player and be great.

Seriously, we've signed a top rated young Australian keeper, Siggy has had an injury that hampered him all last season fixed, Vinnie Lia is a effectively a whole new player, Diego isn't as fragile as Adelaide would have you believe, Costa is a year older, stronger and faster and we have Greenacre.  We are also likely to sign a youngster who even Melbourne were stunned by at the weekend and that leaves us with only 18 signed... while we scour the world looking for the next signing.

How does that make us rubbish ?
