Quality of Crossing

ive got a song that wont take long, Adelaide are rubbish.. the second verse is same as the first.. ADELAIDE ARE RUBBISH

Out of the three games it has been piss poor. These players are paid sh*t loads of money and can't even cross the ball!

The amount of times the ball is over hit, or under hit is shocking.

if the a-league is wanting to become a  major force, then it has to sort this sh*t out as. Nothing worse than watching a good attacking move come to nothing.

It was pretty bad wasn't it.  Refereeing was even worse though.  Absolutely revolting display by the ref.  Called up pretty much everything.

Ref was OK by me. At least he was consistent. Just about all of the replays showed that he got it right.

Ref wasn't that bad.

It was a pretty awful quality game, although to be fair the pitch didn't help. Too many long balls pumped forward in hope straight to Queensland players. siac2008-08-17 20:06:42

Williams was ok. At least he was consistent. Thought he migh have done something more with Smits stomp on Ferrante and Lockhead taking down the winger near half way in the 1st half near the touchline with the winger about to go past him into open space.

Probably need a little more thougth at the set piece crossing. Its hard to get any use from a cross when you're playing Smeltz vs Roar back 4. They took most of the high balls every time as Smeltz was getting double marked.

might be easier for the wide men if Kwasi made more direct runs, they don't seem to pick his runs up

his running off his marker seems more suited to receiving a short ball into space than to a cross

agree with comment about longs bals pumped up in the second half, McKain didn't seem to look wide

but one ball driven along the ground to smelz's feet allowed a great turn and shot

I guess it wasn't really the ref, it was the linesman calling offside on everything Phoenix. Although those at home watching on sky may have seen more than I.

Sky wasn't overly conclusive to be fair. You either got a replay when they were right or if it was debatable, you got the wrong angle or nothing at all

I dont have sky so I can't check for myself but some of those calls, particularly on my side - opposite the "gold" section - seemed a bit dodgy.

It was of some comfort that the cards started to balance out towards the end.

We need to stop relying on crosses to score. It seems all our attacks turn into crosses, its to obvious.

See our goal tonight? Thats what we do when we attack through the middle.

True we should keep scoring all our goals horribly against the run of play

Allegedly

in terms of the final delivery LF1, it may have been ticketek, not Ahmed, who inspired them

Keeping the ball on the deck and threading it through their midfield could've been a good option tonight, we looked better when we did.

Agree, the crossing was poor and the long ball is not suited to our formation or our strengths.....

But a point at home after the first round is a good start....not quite the emotion of first game last season but an unbeaten start all the same!!

Helloooooo, Hellooooo....its good to be back, its good to be back....

agreed, sky was crap
how come the nix dont have a flash scorboard and timer on the telly like thegames broadcast on foxsports do
sky=tinght arses

and to finsh my argument i thought the commentators were just a crap dodds long balls - what really did it was when the question (from one commentator to another at half time: couldnt care less who it was) was asked whether gao or coveny would be subbed on early to inject life into the attack when neither were even in the 15 man squad.

*sigh* good to get that off my chest

Eh sky coverage was crap?

If it wasn't for sky then us out of towners would be stuck.

and we had the same timer and scoreboard as fox

interesting to see that last season we where delighted to come back for  draw (ok 2 goals was more dramatic)

but this season we were (well me anyway) disappointed not to have taken all three following our excellent pre-season

good to se our expectations rising

yeah that's a good point - i guess cos we played so much better against Melbourne in the PSC final, 0-0 draw notwithstanding

Im with you on that have to say i left disappointed we didnt take all 3 points(not that we deserved them)other teams will be more than happy if they can leave here with a point. Its time we started to take more than the odd point from home games, the other sides need to arrive here knowing they are up against it.As an aside when the FK did this route one football become part of our play. Its not as if we have the guys or even play the formation for it.

Ground conditions didn't look flash - ball bobbled around a lot and all this rain can't have helped even at the stadium.

The crossing is known as "The El**ch Factor" Most wingers in the A League aspire to be able to deliver such quality.
Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

The Ruf, The Ruf, The Ruf is on Fire!!

sure, a lot of wingers in the league can't actually cross for s**t, but it's not as bad as the physical nature and shocking refereeing

Off the point a little bit, but WHAT THE f**k was up with free kicks as wel!!!???? Im SURE it isn't that hard to just get a ball into the box somewhere towards the goal!!! We had Three free kicks that should have been goal scoring chances and they all hit the wall!

The Phoenix have not produced a dangerous, threatening free kick in their history.  By contrast they have scored plenty from corners, which have usually looked well organised.  I can't explain it.

agree - what ever happened to a bit of originality, even playing the ball to the side and having a blast - this smacking it straight at the wall is stupid (hopefully I eat my words on Sunday)
