You need to do more than pull on the shirt to get my respect - Ashley Cole/Ahmed El**ch case in point.

Guys that demand respect like Aloisi does can influence a team without ever playing. What a great man.

i didnt say that

i think "most" of the phoenix players would commit to the phoenix when they put that shirt on

i dont think you can compare ashley cole to the phoenix players it can all be about money in premier league!

All the best for the future Ross. You were always approachable and gave your best for the team.

To tawa on the forum aka Simon Angus, a kid from the Tawa 4th team, I'm sure you wont experience what it is like being a captain and a leader, so keep your thoughts to yourself fool.

As much as some on here have flamed El**ch he still remains the scorer of the best ever Phoenix goal at the ring of fire with that screamer against CCM...

I'd have to say it was the best goal I've ever seen live and it's a moment I'll not forget for some time.  Perhaps it wasn't quite enough to forgive his lack of effort and composure later in the season but some of the stuff directed his way is perhaps a tad harsh. It's funny how fickle sport can be sometimes!

As for Ross, I thought he was fantastic and I loved the way he celebrated his goals for us, you knew he was Phoenix to the core!

Ross I'm sad to see you go but I understand that your health must always come first.  I wish to thank you for believing in the Phoenix, for coming here to a new club and pouring all your passion and energy into it.

I have heard many a tale of your exploits as a captain on and off the field, you've really helped the Phoenix pull together in this first season and led from the front (well midfield) showing both players and fans that passion isn't about swearing at the ref when something doesn't go your way, it's about loving your team and the beautiful game and going out there to give 110% every time you pull on that jersey.

I was surprised by your story about the Galaxy game, but that is the kind of passion I'm talking about and you know that the fever appreciate and admire that in you.

Wherever you go from here I wish you the very best, and if you ever attend a Phoenix game be it home or away, seek out the feverites and we'll welcome you back into the fold.

Most of the Aloisi announcement can be seen on this video.

I think Ricki made the perfect appointment as captain for our first ever season. Aloisi was already a respected player in Australia and it gave us some credibility.

His first interview on TV here set the tone. A positive attitude and a desire to win. Everything about the man oozes/oozed class, even his sending off was.

But the things I will remember him as a player is seeing him geeing on the side when of the ball and we'd fell behind. His motivation to the players around him. Excellent leadership skills.

Off the field, the complete professional making time for those whom asked.

Finally, I hope he gets his ticket and the Nix employ him as a coach. His experience, respect, confidence, knowledge should not be allowed to be used by other A League teams nor lost anywhere else. He would continue to be a great role model to young or up and coming footballers for the Wellington Phoenix.

Thanks Ross, thanks for taking the role of Captain in our first season. To me you are Captain Fantastic!

When I look back on Ross playing for us, I'll think of him in the home game against Sydney (the one we blew in the last minute). I thought he was f**king superb that night.

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

Farewell Rossy. Thanks for the memories, passion and commitment you gave for our newly founded club.

The length of time you were here in no way compares to the length which you'll be remembered. All the best for wherever the future takes you.

Cheers.

I was going to say that too.  With more than half the first team out, the captain really stood up for that game.  Played out of position as an attacking midfielder too.  A contender for Phoenix individual performance of the season.

p.s.  Ross, if you are packing and tempted to throw out that Becks shirt, we can help you there.

Actually, prior to the last few seasons, Attacking Midfielder was generally Ross's role.

he also held us together at the back during our 2-1 win at sydney  - that was a great night and an excellent performance

I sing that and sign off with huge praise and thanks to Ross for all he's done for us from me, and on behalf of DLB, Cosmo and Feverette......

Top bloke Ross.....loved every minute of your time with the mighty Nix.

Cheers Coxey - it wouldn't have been the same chanting that at the Sydney game without you     Have been singing it all day today!

Ross - you did a fantastic job and will be missed.  All the best back in Adelaide and with everything you do in the future.
