Oh dear....
Hard to get a handle on some of these guys.
Pasty 6 Totally exposed
North 4 Totally off his man for two of the goals, seemed to be wanting to cover the middle, where admittedly there were holes as well. Had a good spell after half time.
Siggy 4.5 Was still trying hard at the end
Dura 4 Organisation? Leadership? Some good individual work, but defending is a team thing.
Manny 6 Done for pace once, but useful, made a difference a number of times.
Timmy 5.5 Bombed forward wel, nice goal, better than he has been lately
Elliott 4.5 Some good passing, but ... they were over run in the midfield
Vinnie 4 Chased
Leo 5 Average, too often had a start and went the wrong way.
Ifill 6 His best game for a while
Greenie 4.5 Shooting off target
Big Mac 5 Made a chance
Daniel 5 a couple of useful crosses
Ward Little impact

What do you think? Try and be objective amidst the despair.

Elliott made some school children cry tonight. Mark down at least 1 point.

everyone a 2. Just a lacklustre performance. No one wanted the ball. No one wanted to win.

actually, the mom goes to the dude sitting behind me with the chant :

The referee's a banker
The referee's a banker
The referee's a banker

then, 5 seconds later -

"and a c**t !!"

it turned heads I tell ya.

Holy sh*t Ifill a SIX? Are you f**king joking me. Big cry baby he was, lose the ball and have a little sulk about and walk back. His workrate is f**king terrible, Ricky should have him running 100 laps next training to get his fitness up.

Starting assumption everyone a 4 and then see who deserves more and who deserves less?

North, Muscat, Durante a rabble each a 3
Brown salvages a 4 by virtue of the goal.
Bertos 3 - undid any good work with poor delivery, what is so hard about corners?
Macalister 3 - came into a team with no shape but contributed bugger all to change game.

RH 3 - there is no substitute for pace and movement, sadly we've built a squad without either.

so disappointed
i dont really think paston deserved a 6 or 4, maybe a 3

What did Paston do so wrong - he was totally sold down the swanny. Bad goalkeeping is what England keepers do in World cups or Scottish keepers all the time.

Apart from this, everyone was much of a muchness. There were occasional moments when Ifill, Bertos, Greenacre, and Daniel were excellent. And Brown with his goal. But there were long stretches in between were it was all so slow and predictable.

Lia was terrible, North was all over the place and Durante looked totally unassured right from the start. I was slagging Brown off when he went and scored a jaffa, but the midfield really cant compare to what Brisbane dished up. Elliott wasnt playing the game we needed.

Its not all doom and gloom because the Roar were the best team Ive seen at the ROF, but the shape of the Nix has to change.

Eliott plays a possession game but sadly we had a back four and the other two midfielders who were really uncomfortable playing a passing game and close to zero movement.

He's always been like that.

I thought that Leo falling down like he had been shot (and in the process losing the ball) before the move that led to the goal and then just sitting on the ground for a minute moaning about it was worse.

Always worth a read thanks OiOi
well, for what it's worth, here's my thoughts

Pasty 6 Totally exposed
Thought he did as much as he could in goal, tough day at the office.
North 4 Totally off his man for two of the goals, seemed to be wanting to cover the middle, where admittedly there were holes as well. Had a good spell after half time.
Made a lot of good runs forward in the first half.  But yeh.
Siggy 4.5 Was still trying hard at the end
but part of a trashed back 4/back 3 and unlike North had the comfort of playing in his favoured position.
Dura 4 Organisation? Leadership? Some good individual work, but defending is a team thing.
yep
Manny 6 Done for pace once, but useful, made a difference a number of times.
Only 5 from me, lost his man badly twice i thought, just wasn't punished the same as North, and i thought he got forward less than North, not the normal outstanding manny tonight
Timmy 5.5 Bombed forward wel, nice goal, better than he has been lately
4.5 Got forward, yes, but didn't do enough apart from that goal.  His mates in the opposition locked good.  he didn't.
Elliott 4.5 Some good passing, but ... they were over run in the midfield
Hmmm I thought 6 or better.  Accurate passing, made himself available, good on the ball. Bit hard to mark the three brisbane middies running at him.
Vinnie 4 Chased
3.5, chased, yep, seldom caught anything.  As far as I could tell, no shot and low pass reception and completion rate and seemed to get crowded with Brown.  First time both playing forward together.
Leo 5 Average, too often had a start and went the wrong way.
As good as anything we had on the park I thought.  6 is still not great, cause i agree with what you are saying, but 6 from me it is.  Beat his man regularly.
Ifill 6 His best game for a while
Thought he offered less than Leo.  lost possession several times trying to do too much.  Could have played leo in once, but chose to shoot instead.  limited defensive contribution. 5 from me
Greenie 4.5 Shooting off target
Maybe a 5.  Offside too often still.  Couple of half chances.  But largely shut out.
Big Mac 5 Made a chance
You surprised me there, yes he did.  Otherwise a 2.  So 3.  Sorry, just think he is slow and somewhat lacking skill, plus having him on just encourages the long ball and that was worse than 50/50.
Daniel 5 a couple of useful crosses
and asleep for the fourth goal, 4
Ward Little impact
Yep, would have been better if he came on for Lia and stayed with 433 formation

Ricki - his side looked disorganised, lacking specialists in critical positions and lacking some pace.  Plus Mac and not Pav?  3

"Yep, would have been better if he came on for Lia and stayed with 433 format"
can i suggest a 911 formation? would the ref's notice if we had 12 on the pitch? would it have made a difference?

Where is the organisation on defense?

personally I'd give Siggy a 6 cause he ran his bum off and was the best of our back 3. Would give Brown a 5.5 cause he did his thing and scored. Everyone else, to me, would be between 4.5 - 5

Siggy was not the best at the back, he was clearly off the pace leaving dura exposed, he kept their attackers onside which lead to them scoring. manny has proven to be the most effective at the back.....although he can't do it all on his own.
Ifill looked better than he has, but with no support he isn't going to be that effective, I'd be frustrated too in his position.

I thought Siggy was rather ordinary. I would have North in his position and Sigmund on the bench...

We had 4 at the back until last 10 mins, but you're kinda right...most of the time there was someone missing

It was a very hard match to watch. And i think the problems started at the back.

Last season (near the end) our strength was founded on a strong back 4. This season, we're sorely lacking.

Maybe Durante shouldn't have gone and got married.

But, i think North and Durante in the center SHOULD be strong enough, Siggy, while galliant, just wasn't there.

North shouldn't have been at fullback, although his runs were quite nice. We needed Hearfield, if not only for the pace of things.

Maybe we need to bring on a Musa to see what they can do, and i know someones going to be like "you cant play him cause he doesn't have the class yet". Well he's not going to get it by never being on the park, and looking at our current defence from the last few games, he sure as hell can't do worse.

Brown and Lia.. they need a sitdown for a while. Yes Brown scored a goal, but that doesn't mean his form all of a sudden has come back.

Ward.. why does Ricki hate him so? He's had some shockers, but then so have most of the others in midfield.

Ifil.. please come back. You started the match like the Ifill of old, but you now seem to spend more time complaining at the ref than winning the ball back. You ARE better than any defender in the league. Beat them.

Greenie's gone silent again, a bit like he was before we got big Dadi in the middle for him to work with last season. We have 2 big men for hi to work with, and Big Mac has the more experience, and it's worked well in the past.

Elliott, while not quite having the blinder i was hoping for, you could see his frustration spilling over near the end as the nix dropped their head. I believe he will strengthen the midfield with his experience, but it'll take a little more time working together at practice for that to come. Make Dura have a sitdown, and give Elliot the captains armband for a week or two.

The worst part for me is KNOWING that everyone on that pitch can play SO much better, but we're not seeing it. I still believe in them, i just wanna see them return to their best.

By the way, Ricki, i hope you're recovering well from your stroke. I could tell you'd had one when you subbed twice before 80 minutes. My families best wishes are with you and yours.

Wow, I have just had the benefit of watching the replay with a freeze frame button available.

Some of that defending was laughably woeful, worse than an under 9 team. They might as well play one-for-one at the back cos then at least you have a vague idea who you should be marking.

When I watched live last night, I thought the Roar seemed to have an extra man. Watching the replay, I think they had 2 extra men.

I cannot describe the ineptitude of the covering, more ball watching than a male stripper in a nunnery. I cant believe that we can go without losing at home for 2 years and then play like a bunch of Cap 16 players who have been on the jug the night before.

I cant even bother naming names cos everyone wants to hold their head in shame after that, coach included. Im gonna let Paston off the hook though, and Greenacre and the subs. The rest of you were terrible.

I agree - at one point I did say to my mate "it looks like we're a man down here" when they were just passing it around us so easily.

Brisbane had some of the best movement off the ball seen at the RoF

it didn't help that the back four seemed to have decided that the further apart they played the better (both full backs - North in particular seemed to have decided they were wingbacks)

it also didn't help going to 3 at the back

but basically we were out-played off the ball
