Referee: AFC Referee of the Year Ben Williams

Nix P16 W3 D5 L8
Heart P9 W3 D2 L4

How on earth did he win that?

Carlos is in the matchday squad. Manny and Watson have been brought in with JBS the only player out from last weekend.

The AFC obviously has a weird sense of humour.

That is a rather meaningless stat. When your career in the HAL is spent in the lower half of the table (as is the case for the Phoenix and Heart) then you are going to have more losses than wins with any referee.

Well he is going to the WC so I would suggest there is a correlation there.

Personally I'd rather Carlos didn't start. Firstly, to give him a kick up the arse for his stroppy child routine. Secondly, because he hasn't actually looked very effective in the last couple of weeks IMO, whether it's because he is carrying a niggle I don't know. If he is, a week's rest might sort it out anyway. Thirdly, I'd like to see Stein pulled back into the no 10 role and to see how the combination of Boyd and Krishna would go up front. This would also allow us to really try to hit Heart on the break with pace which is probably our only chance of beating them at the moment anyway.

More likely to see a Boyd and Brockie front line, than Krishna and Boyd. This would be my line up:

               Moss
Boxall Siggy Dura Timmins
       Lia   Manny   Kenny
              Waffles
         Boyd     Brockie

Brockie does seem quite out of favour at the moment though. Will be very interesting to see if he gets a run.

Carlos Hernandez will miss Sunday's game v Heart. MRI scan on his injured calf today #MHTvWEL #ALeague

Sam Worthington thinks the team is, formation aside,...

               Moss
Boxall Siggy Dura Timmins
  Lia  Manny  Kenny
         Waffles
  Boyd     Krishna

I don't think you can go 4-2-3-1 with Krishna and Boyd, so I am betting that is the likely formation.

I could still see Brockie playing however.

Is his Mum still here? She can make him his favorite dish, legs up and enjoy a 3:1 win of his team on TV.

I for one am a bit worried about this match. The team appears to be in a big slump, even the win against CCM was only 1 45 minute performance. Boys need to click into gear.

Edit: I think the lack of carlos may infact be a blessing in disguise

If they could come out with the intensity they finished the game with last week it would certainly help.

So very true. The team even surprises those that are hard core fans.

Watson to start.

Play him as a target man to lay off to Stein or flick on for our flying fijian.

Man, Ernie must have read your post - I'm surprised you haven't received a "This!" from him.
However, now this response from Carlos:
"A frustrated Carlos Hernandez says he is fit to take on the Melbourne Heart tomorrow and believes the Wellington Phoenix are using his calf injury as a smokescreen for his omission...."
But Ernie explains in more detail the injury concerns - so I'm taking Ernie at his word - he's usually no spin doctor....
There's the ongoing up-and-down relationship between Ernie and Carlos but Ernie wants him to get properly fit so he can contribute more.
