But all this was said before Mambo allegedly shows disinterest at training leading to his demotion. It true he only has himself to blame and he knows what he has to do.

Aww you're missing me!

Summary: game was pretty crap, we didn't create nearly enough. Ridenton and Rufer not gonna cut it in midfield. Thought Smith did ok actually. Did Vidosic touch the ball after he scored? I'll let him off as I had him for first goal scorer. I worry about us this weekend in Sydney.

There he is, the poster that everyone lov.... hmmm

See you have taken your happy pills. Did you find enough negatives to keep you happy?

Hello pot, meet kettle

I actually think that your brief game assessment is pretty much spot on. I felt sorry for Smith and Ridenton.  I thiught both were trying hard but both got F all support. Rufer overrated.

Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

Rufer played fine... certainly better than Ridenton, who has 10 times the playing experience of Rufer at this level!

Clearly this must have been simmering for a while?

I have seen by now pages and pages of people (myself included) agonising over a performance of an 18-year old newbie keeper that our coaches had faith in enough to play in a season opener. So when would you like the coaches to "blood" him? In the finals, when one keeper is for example injured and another for example unavailable 'for personal reasons'? Talk about putting pressure on a young kid.  Yes it was nervy to watch but the first game of the season is not a matter of life and death and I am happy to cut him some slack.

However, this was also first game for Kadlujerovic who is surely more pricey than Smith and is expected to deliver goals for us this season.  I have not seen much from him apart from maybe one good shot on the goal or another one or two deft touches. Yet nobody has so far said a word about his largely MIA performance. We could calculate his weekly wages and then compare it to Smith's wages.  So is it OK to cut him this much slack based on this game compared to how little slack are people ready to give Smith based on this game?

I am not saying Smith should be our first choice keeper. He is still very much in a development stage and I hope this experience will have helped him. Also, I would like to think that Kadjulerovic will deliver as season unfolds. So all I would like to see here is some sense of balance and perspective in analysing our first outing. Yes playing Smith was a potential banana skin, but he was not necessarily the worst one on the park.

Probably because Kadjulerovic barely got passed the ball.

By some distance the worst performance of the day was the Fever Zone (I was there, partly to blame). Deathly silence from about the 15th minute. Not our best work.

Cheer up everyone.

So far, this is the only comment I've seen that identifies the true scapegoat from Sunday. Chanting "We're going to win the league" 4 minutes into the game, (and then they went quiet). Four minutes in, they jinx the entire season!  What were they thinking? I might as well throw my season ticket in the bin & sit a dark corner for 90 minutes every weekend.

I don't know why I bother listening to Australian podcasts, soccer stoppage time (which is an appalling podcast, definitely don't recommend) rated the game on the weekend the worst game in A-League history, which I found hilarious.

It wasn't even the worst game of the weekend!

They interview players and managers reasonably often though, but the quality is terrible, the opinions make no sense, and it's pretty offensive sometimes. I have quite a few podcasts where I just listen to the rundown at the start and then delete more often than not.

It is hilarious how biassed people can be though.

Agreed.

It also probably explains why many people are turned off voting at the elections, after enduring pre-election comments and debates.

Similar phenomenon I reckon.

Sure. But that was not my point; it was just one example of what we could agonise over instead of how Keegan-Smith performed in the goal.

For example, I could substitute "Abbas" for "Kadjulerovic" and have a similar rant just as I did above.

and thats the thing. A few people have talked about Adelaide as a play off team this year but I did not see that last week. If they are a play off team, I feel good about where the Phoenix are at.
