Yellow card was justified. He actually did the same thing a few minutes before....... I haven't seen the replay but it looked like a carbon copy.

How is it justified when A: he never handled the fucking ball outside the box!!!!! It's wrong in so many ways it's not funny.

We need a referee to rule on this. I'd be surprised if any agree that it's a handball and a yellow card.

I dont have issues with a yellow card, as nufc said - it can fall under the 'prevent an opponent gaining possession' category. And it was a stupid thing to do anyway. Not saying it was inside or outside, but just dumb. Shouldve implemented some Herbert and just hoofed it up the line.

If someone can tell me what the yellow card on Spoonley is for, that would be great because there is no reason for it. The referee's a wanker

Ref stuffed up there. wasn't hand ball and yellow made it worse. can see why spoonley was a bit pissed
Photo available but we will still get trainee officials because we are NZ.

And ref was on the other side of the field - Ozzy rules.

And now that i see the photo, from the more acute angle of where the ref was he wouldve seen it as outside the box. Spoonley, looking straight down, wouldve seen it as inside.

The ball  is on the line  or part of the line Therfor it is still in the penalty area and can be touched even though the goalkeepers hand or part hand is outside. The referee is wrong in both parts giving an free kick and awarding a yellow card

Jesus I've got to stop agreeing with you.

It might be fractionally over the line (although that photo isn't conclusive on this point) but really Spoons should just have put his foot through it.

As the referee saw it in real time, I can only agree with him - it looked outside the box to me (even in that photo it still does tbh) so he called it right.

No harm done though. Wasn't Spoons awesome in that game!?

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

At the time it looked outside to me but from that photo it looks conclusively inside. Its close though so can see how the ref can get it wrong.

Mate, are you actually serious ? The referee had less than 1 second to see it. We are looking at a pic from a different angle and it's still inconclusive. Berisha was 1m away from Spoon so if he hadn't have picked up the ball, Berisha would have had a great chance to tap the ball in the net.
What about if the goalkeeper comes out to halfway and picks up the ball ? Is that a yellow card offence ? Yes.
End of the day the ref saw that the goalkeeper picked up the ball outside of the box so he gave him a caution. That's it. Case closed. I don't even know why we are arguing about this.

On the game:

While we were aggressive and showed an intent to attack and create opportunities the only team that got the ball under control and moved it around was Brisbane. They didn't do this the whole game but when they did they showed a clear difference between the two sides.

After our aggression won the opening phases, Brisbane settled into a nice rhythm where they moved the ball high up the pitch and pinned us back in our area. In that respect our goal came slightly against the run of play and broke a brief spell of Brisbane dominance. If that had continued we would've been in for a tough period.

Our attack was mostly coming from winning possession and releasing early; Stein and Cunnigham being the strongest outlets.Anytime we put our foot on the ball in the midfield to slow the game and open angles our passing was poor and we would give it away.

Their first goal started right in front of me. Sigmund came out to win a 50-50 between the midfield and defense. He won the first but was then committed to the second because if he retreated he would've been a lame duck anyway. With Sigmund out of the line the defense didn't contract well enough and Adams in particular failed to get back in line to snuff out the threat. Not Sigmund's fault.

Boxall was better than I expected though he got turned very easily a number of times.

Left-back had a tough day but think he will be up to it.

Hernandez was very good but then ran-out of puff. Just before he tired he'd done some excellent work on the left side in our half to evade 3 players and open an attack - it switched right and we created an opportunity in their box. Was thinking at the time how hard he was working, because he was, but just think that last big effort did him in.

Would prefer Manny at right-back. He's good enough for the midfield but while he's there we have a question over right-back and midfield so I say sort out right-back, because from there he can have a strong influence on the game, and find another solution for the middle.  Would prefer a midfield with an emphasis on passing and control rather than tackling and fouling.

Liked the look of Riera when he was on the ball but he made all those positional mistakes you expect midfielders to make when they play at fullback - kept getting pulled in too narrow; got pulled up too high and allowed a ball in behind; not stopping crosses from coming in.

Hicks drifted and did very little. Was too wasteful when he had the chance and didn't really provide anything on our left, either by staying wide, which he didn't, or by drifting in, which he did a lot of but did nothing.

Neither side played as they would've liked and hard on us not to get the point that we'd probably done enough for.

Perhaps that's when businesses unblock sites for an hour that they don't want their employees on all day. My receptionist at my last firm was on Trade Me all day. Not great for greeting patients when you tell them to hold a moment...

As far as I know (I may be wrong) all healthcare providers (DHB/hospitals/etc.) around the country specifically block Trade Me.

currently capital & coast dont block trademe, but do block facebook and ebay

Well deserved. Really liked his play on Sunday.

New poster, pumped for the season, even after the heartbreaker on Sunday.

Not sure what to think of a few of the new guys so far, like Adams, but looking forward to watching them progress here going forward.

adams wasn't great on sunday but he was out of position, lacks a bit of pace but hes clearly better suited to CB

Fair enough, and figured as much. Surely he's got the ability, just looked so uncomfortable on the outside that i almost felt bad for him.

Nice to have a talented CB like him in the fold, absolutely.

I have now watched replay after attending the game on Sunday.

Firstly, Lia was pretty crap.

Secondly, I don't think Adams deserves the stick he has got from some quarters. The defensive flaws on several occasions seemed to be because of a joint lack of communication and positioning between Adams, Sigmund and Boxall, and over the whole game it looked like Sigmund was the biggest culprit. The last goal was clearly a cock-up between Sigmund and Muscat.

I actually thought Brisbanes first goal was a good attacking goal, they exploited Sigmund coming out of the back line, and it was a great pull back to find Berisha.

Completely agreed that Adams needs some leeway - same with Riera. Both playing positions theyve probably only played a handful of times in their careers; I'll judge Adams if he ever starts a game at CB for us.

Siggy is Siggy and thus will never stop running out like a headless chicken - don't think it really does us any favours even though it comes off most of the time; it's that one time when it doesn't which costs us.

agree totally........we are way too harsh on the new kids, especially when Lia is still in the squad....this "new" habit of siggy's of charging out of the line has to stop, especially now that we are playing with a DM.
