There will be a lot of excited kids dragging their parents along tonight. The weather won't deter them unless it is dire. 7.30 pm is a bit late but it is still the holidays - sleep in Sunday then watch the all whites at 11am.

8000 easy I reckon. Only caveat is if the heavens open.

Crowed may grow 10-20% year by year but won't be visible when your in the stadium. We need a good run and exciting football combined with some good weather to get more than those. We are here for the long run.

Bit of retro today methinks in honour of 10 years going with the midnight minches under neath.Worn to first game as there was no merchandise available and it was suggested people wear anything yellow or black. Only problem is wife seems to have manage to shrink it a few sizes.?

May not be a factor closer to game time but factor this in for northern fans travelling...suggest you check stuff or NZTA website around 3pm.

Very poor coverage of the first game of the season in the Dom Post/Stuff today. One column, no pictures (that I could spot). Disappointing. Sports pages totally dominated by a dead rubber game in S Africa. I think the Nix deserve better from our local Wellington paper.

If you'd rather the tickets get used I'm trying to pick some up cheap - wouldnt expect you to give them away to a stranger but if i could even get a couple cheap i'd be happy.

No worries if not

That said they had good coverage yesterday including analysis of each team ins, outs prospects etc and  a player profile..and Ernie comments I think.

What we needed is "Nix player caught having a boof in a handicap toilet with a stunning lady" headline. As everyone in the press are trying to make one guilty of doing this seem like a national hero. Boys will be boys, I don't want to see him cry etc etc.

With this rain now, 5,300 croud is my new guess at attendance.

Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

Good idea Steve, think I will wear my original hoody and jersey from way back then. Still fit me. Retro day it is.

No rain here yet, but looking mighty bleak and about to come in (can't see the Hutt Valley from Brooklyn).  The Weather forecast is for it to come and go before kick -off. Unfortunately, probably not at a good time for 'late-deciders'. I think we will crack 6k, but not a lot more than that.

I know, I know, its serious!

The rain radar is showing a bucket load of rain at the top of the South Island heading towards Wellington.

Lets hope it's a win which will be great for future crowd numbers.

Checked Metservice from aus and it looks like a Wellington spring day

4-3 or 3-2 or a multi draw would be good for my betting account balance but would be just as happy with a 1 - 0

Trying not to watch the clock.. 2 hours 37 36 35 to go...

What bunch of weather whiners. I remember only one really horrible rain, stormy game where we lost in the last minute (Perth? Fury?) Just put some extra layer and jacket on and you will be fine.

This will be a great 3:2 win.

Yeah, always seems to be some excuse. I think there's is 3 or 4 of them out today

3-2 would be bloody fantastic

Go NIX!

Upper Hutt U19 tournament.

Taupo junior tournament.

Last weekend of school holidays.

7.30pm game.

Terrible weather.

>8k croud.

People out of town excuses? Check

School holidays excuse? Check

Game time/day excuse? Check

Weather excuse? Check

Really is there always going to be excuses why not.

There's a difference between an excuse and an explanation. These are all circumstances beyond the Phoenix's control. They just are.

Oh and for the record that was meant to be <8k croud. I don't think we'll crack 8, just too many things stacked against us this week.

Except we literally always seem to have an excuse. It becomes a little bit old, honestly.

When will we just admit that we don't quite have the support we need quite yet?

Very true that there will always be an excuse not to go.

Indeed. Always excuses pretending to be reasons.

Fact is if one runs a business that needs all the stars to align, just to break even, one has problems that can't be solved by excuses or "explanations".

If one of my businesses needed all the stars to align, just to break even, there would be one of two things I would be doing straight away

Sacking marketing/sales and headhunting quality to make what needs to happen, happen or selling it off to a fool.

In the Nix case, number one would be the first option

Go NIX. Any wins a good one at this stage.

We should be happy to #savedthenix. We almost got canned. Everyone at the club worked hard in pre season to get the team up and running to the #nixlevel We have real chance to see some good football this year. Good vibes around the club. And all I hear: Might be rain, Saturday, blah, blah. Forget the frickin weather, nothing we can do about. Fire up Yellow Fever! It's on us to show support and enjoy the game at the Westpac and, for fans outside Wellington, watching it on SKY.
