What was the marquee match for this round cause I can't see it.

Am I the only one who thought the pitch looked like absolute shit? Folks around me were commenting on it, but haven't seen anyone here talking about it.
No..when I first walked in I thought it looked weird.
A small town in Europe........looking to bounce straight back up....well that aint going to happen
We've got WSW on NYD and that'll be our 3 games against them done before the half way mark.
Rigged to keep us down and squashed early on to limit chances of making top 6...;>)

Where can I find some stats on this game? I need to see if it will prove me wrong. Happy to admit that if the stats show something different to what I thought I saw. To me it seemed like a hack fest with lots of missed chances and a lot of wayward passing.
Hopefully they get rid of the chick who was doing the ground announcements or at least get her to watch some football games before next week. She was announcing subs before they actually occurred and in the TW vs Wanderers game told the crowd that TW had "two points" and Wanderers had "one point" after TW went 2-1 up.
You have to wonder how people get such a job. It did appear that she'd never attended a match before, it became comical

I laughed hardest when she started announcing the subs before they were actually made! At least there was no music during every stoppage.
Queenslander 3x a year.
I still have not had the chance to see a replay. Is it me or when we loose badly , as we did against Pert, a replay is on Sky every 10 minutes and when we win ( Know it is a distant memory) or at least play ok all the replays are on at 3 in the morning?
As I said just after the match, I thought we went pretty well. In the first 35 minutes we created enough good chances to have out the game to bed, and as so often happens that lack of finishing comes back to bite. We were not as good in the second half but again we created plenty of opportunities with Riera having one cleared of the line and several other near misses and a couple of good saves from Theo.
The roars first goal and bearing in mind I have only seen it from 375metres away I thought Siggy was trying to screen Smith in the belief that Moss would have come and cleared?
The Roars second was more or less on an angle directly in front of the Zone and while Franjic hit it bloody well right through the flight of the ball I thought Mossy has this covered so it was kind of a surprise when it rippled the back of the net.
Maybe my thoughts on the match are a reflection of the low expectations I had after the mud we dished up the week before, playing against a side that has swept all before them this year. Brisbane will in my opinion, be thinking the nicked a couple of points from that.
Just another point, Broich pisses me off.... gets breathed on falls over and then Berisha and Smith come charging in towards the referee claiming he has been knifed in the back! Apparently the most fouled player in the league. Also the player least able to ride any sort of challenge. His default position is always fall over!
I'm interested that a few people are calling for Ifill to start. Completely love the guy, but haven't been super impressed by him coming off the bench in recent games. Is it just me or has he lost a bit of his touch? He has the capability of doing something magic, but also seems to give away the ball through bad first touches or running into players quite a lot.
On the positive side, I think Riera is developing into a really good midfielder for us. He still gave away the ball a couple of times in very bad places which wasn't flash, but watching him at the ground, he was doing a lot of running and closing down for us as well. It can take a while to adjust to the next level up, but I think he's starting to get there.

When you get to see the replays you will notice that we did target him and he received a few harsh tackles.
He is in my opinion one of the best players in the league, hence all the tackles.

It'd almost be better if we were getting hidings in these games because it'd be easier to argue for wholesale changes. I think that what's happened this year is that we had a disrupted start to the season thanks to AWs games and the travelling roadshow games, and we never quite clicked. Now it's been too long and the confidence is down and even when we play well for periods the moment something goes against us our heads go down and we go into our shells. Ernie/Welnix's failure to recruit a quality DM hasn't helped because we've had to put an extra man in the middle to help out which has made us play a narrow brand of football, which then doesn't suit our attacking stocks. The decision to pass on Matt Thompson has cost us - he might not have been exactly what we were looking for but nor was Cunningham and we signed him despite having a bunch of wide attacking players on the books already.
I also think the Brockie situation is tough - if you look at his career prior to last year he's never really played a lot as a striker and his goalscoring record is not that flash. Maybe last year actually was just an anomaly and now we've put all our faith in him as a striker when it's really not who he is. However, who do you replace him with? Where are our goals gonna come from with or without him starting?
I think it might be time for some changes for the sake of it just to try and jolt the team out of this rut. Start Ifill, start Boxall, give Fenton a crack up front, play Stein in midfield, play a back 3.... I don't know just do something to try and shake things up....
Actually I think putting Stein in midfield, with his ball holding skills and passing ability, might not be such a bad idea. Also I still think Fenton is best attacking out wide, rather than trying to shoehorn him into being a defender, as happened to Bertos. Then try Cunningham as a out and out striker in place of the fading Brockie. Sooner or later someone is going to catch a hiding from this Phoenix team, I hope it's sooner.

I agree about Albert Riera. I'm so pleased for him although he is sadly missed at ACFC. Pity his shot didn't cross the line, would have capped off a good all round performance and 2-2 would have better reflected the game. I always like the fact if he loses the ball he usually turns around and goes after it. He can be a real terrier at times and often wins the ball back.
I also agree about Ifill. Age has caught up with him and he's not a 90 minute player any more, which is a shame, always liked him.

I agree absolutely, but even ADP picks his time to fall over and when to ride a challenge, such as his goal on Saturday v Heart. I just think he could be so much better.
The difference beteen them is that Broich is a very good player from a very good league (the Bundesliga) while Del Piero is a Living Legend. Broich has a harder life because people are a little cautious to tackle Del Piero while Broich does not have that kind of aura. I kind of sympathise with Broich because he himself rarely commits a foul. He plays fluidly and gets fouled a lot, by all teams except his own.
Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days
WARNING INCOMING ANGST
If it was the first A League game you had ever seen it would be pretty hard to believe that it is a professional league and I don't think you would be driven to attend a game any time soon. Both teams were dreadful and it was a poor advertisment for the league - at times it was a complete hack fest. As previously stated I had enjoyed watching the Nix this year but found the game yesterday to be torture to watch. I don't think it will trend that way this season because we have shown we can play but it didn't come together yesterday at all IMO.
I agree with NP - it was not a bad performance. We did not score even from a true sitter, but we did not play like crap. Even Ernie said so, and - for those who know him from his MV days - he is notoriously hard to utter a compliment.

Start Ifill and Hernandez off the bench as the impact sub would be the way to go I think.
Strangely enough I agree completely. None of them is a great runner, regardless of their skills, vision, distribution, reputation etc etc.

I sort of feel top of the world now that others started to agree with the above point, which I made in this forum weeks ago.

To clarify- I meant start Ifill at the start of the game, play Stein at number 10 and when Ifill tires put Stein up front and put Carlos at number 10. Just for one or two games to get him champing at the bit. Also means he can go full throttle when he comes on...
Cunningham's not very good is he?
I also think it's time we started looking at Hernandez's performances a bit closer - he's got to start hitting the target cause he's getting in good positions.
Riera is really looking more and more comfortable, by far our best on Saturday. Not sure where the praise for Lia is coming from, once again he misplaced a quarter of his passes. Hicks doesn't look like the answer either.
Normo's coming home
This season is really turning into a disaster. from the start our signings were average. Fenton is not a right back, hes made a name in what little career he has had as a forward, he was a gun playing in the vpl in attack and then he looked great last season with us in attack. he should not have been changed. for me muscat is the best right back we have, and should not be playing defensive mid, the seasons we made finals he was at right back. Left back Caira isn't that good, I think getting rid of Lochhead was a dumb decision. In terms of signings its great that Merrick signed a lot of young New Zealand talent to bring through, but I think we need something better.
Only one team in melbourne!

but he sees the most ball, his name is always big on the app and it says his pass sucess rate was 80% - the usual resons from the Lia lovers out there, oh and the he has a big engine and never gives up is the other.....this one I just don't see as relevant. Nor do I really believe the others.

Riera had more passes, made more tackles, attempted more tackles, had a better passing percentage, committed same number of fouls fouls and even had a shot cleared off the line. He covered more ground as well (look at the stats zone for the match) - I cannot understand your position on this one.

I remember Fentons first game, the first time I saw him. He looked very handy on the ball, very attacking, always looking to do something with it. Everything we haven't got now

I think Riera doing a pretty decent job. My main concern is his tendency to hack people down rather obviously.
just watched Luis Suarez miss an empty net, and he's in the form of his life, so I feel we should cut the Brockstar some slack...

I would do so, if Brockstar had at least one hat-trick to go with it, just like Suarez.

I saw Xavi miss a pass once, so we should ease off our midfield
