Can our misfiring strike force find form?

Can anybody score a goal?

Will this be the game when we spank somebody?

I bloody well hope so.

if we are hoping for the weather to help us I think we are in trouble.

Ernie doesn't have much to work with in the striking department, I expect he may go with this.......

Moss

Fenton, Siggy, Dura, Manny

Lia, Reira, Kenny

Stein, Hernandez, Brockie/Ifill

subs: Boyd, Hicks, Bertos, Ifill/Brockie, Italiano

Not sure what an injured Carlos is going to add but we really don't have any striking options around, I can't see what Bertos/Boyd will add if they were to start, neither are goal scorers....Ifill could start for Brockie which may liven things up but will he last more than 45 minutes? Hard to know.

According to this we've had a pretty good run against the Bling at home

4 wins and 1 loss at Westpac

COYN!

O'Leary is the ref for this game, we have our best record under him.

It's always 2-1 against Sydney, so picking we will win 2-1!

I was thinking this as well. 2-1 sounds good.

Yeh Prof that's the line up I'd choose too, with Ifill starting, then Brockie to come on and try and show Ernie why he's being paid. What's up with Leo I wonder?? Little game time.

Bertos was signed before Merrick came on board remember.

Surely our defence needs to be refreshed. Boxall in for siggy. And maybe bertos for fenton?

Is anyone suspended for yellows for this match?

Yellows:
5 - Manny (already served ban)
4 - Riera
3 - Kenny, Louie
2 - Brockie, Carlos, Siggy
1 - Leo, Boxall, Boyd, Dura, Spoons

Manny will catch Riera up before too long.

I thought the commentators said Riera was suspended for this game as he picked up a yellow last night ?

He didn't get a yellow last night.

I am looking forward to an orgasmic release of tension at this game.

It has been pointed out elsewhere that the Nix have not won a game at the RoF during 2013.

Those are some very blue balls.

My starting XI would be:

Moss

Fenton Boxall Durante Muscat

Riera Lia

Ifill Hicks Cunningham

Huysegems

Ifill in for Brockie for obvious reasons. Huysegems may have been equally guilty against the Mariners, but at least he always gets involved in other aspects of the game. Boxall in for Sigmund because he's made a series of bad mistakes in dangerous areas of the pitch in the last few weeks. Hicks to continue starting ahead of Hernandez. Merrick said we didn't miss Hernandez against the Mariners and I agree.

I wouldnt start hicks, I dont think he is at Aleague level yet. Lia and riera holding mids, with waffles at the top, kenny and ifill on the sides with brockie at the top. keep the faith in the attackers. but as for the defence, time to bring boxall in.

It seems a bit contradictory to say drop Sigmund (?) for Boxall, but keep faith with our attackers.

Sydney FC will take no risks with the fitness of marquee players Alessandro Del Piero and Brett Emerton with duo set to miss the trip to Wellington ahead of a busy period for the club.

With two games in five days and the five hour flight across the Tasman, Sky Blues medical staff have advised the pair stay behind and prepare for the visit of Brisbane Roar on Boxing Day.

Bringing boxall in is because he is capable at this level, and to give siggy a rest and maybe a shot in the arm to pull his socks up. As for the attackers, who could we replace any of them with? Boyds good but not ready and fenton is at rb...

Not if he feels we have a replacement who is as good (better?) than Sigmund, but do not have anyone to come in who will improve on our current attackers.

This is where our season starts.

The Blessed Ernie has worked wonders in terms of our playing style. We are going to win, and win well. Stein and Brockie will both score and this will open the floodgates for the Nix for the rest of the season....confidence (well deserved on recent performances) will be restored, and we won't look back.

It's only farkin' Sydney, for farks sake....and their Minor God isn't playing, probably frightened of us....

We are the Mighty Phoenix. We can beat ANYBODY!!

drop brockie, play stein up front by himself surrounded by people who can give him the service that is required

backs --- fenton is good in a tackle and gets forward well, just need to work on his ability to track back after he has gone forward, but if the other 3 backs train as a back 3 more often in trainings it will allow him to get forward more. siggy has made a few mistakes but I still  think he is the same siggy that has steered this team last few seasons, I think he is just getting abit flustered as he is being asked to play out from the back more often and that's not really his forte.

mids --- lia is getting better, and riera I think could prove and anchor with more experience he gets at this level. Cunningham needs to have more confidence in taking players on, hes got afterburners he needs to use them. I think hicks is quality, just needs a bit more experience, but with ball at feet he looks comfortable and distribution and work rate is all 10/10, give him the chance.

forward --- linking up really well this season with mids and playing some quite creative stuff, prefer him to brockie then it will actually feel like we have a striker playing instead of a paper bag.

ifill boyd and rufer of bench

moss

fenton siggy dura muscat

lia riera

hicks hernandez cunnigham

stein

SUBS - italiano, brockie, ifill, boyd, rufer

This

If Ernie starts Brockie then to me it shows he's starting to lose the plot. Brockie has plenty of chances to up his game and he just gets worse and worse. He needs to sit on the bench and think about his game....maybe coming on as a sub late match will give him the rev up that he needs. Stein can't score but at least he gets heavily involved in play. Brockies 16 touches in 72 minutes against the Roar just about sums up his contribution. The team just can't afford to have someone sit out of a match like that.

Unfortunately Ernie has taken a bright young attacker(Fenton) out of the equation by moving him to RB. He would be the obvious choice to replace Brockie. Boyd is far from the complete package but at least he gets involved in the game.

Once again we are severely disadvantaged by not having a reserve team playing. Brockie could be sent back and try and regain his touch and youngsters like Rufer could be getting game time to see if they were up standard. Ernie is forced to play players out of form and blood youngsters with no match fitness
