Post of the week. Let's wait and see if this comes true.

Why would I say that? I didn't even... *gnashes teeth* ... get to watch the game due to prior commitments. *sigh*

In the current team, M Boxall and luke Adams. However I believe we need some fresh blood. I think Sigmund and Durante are too slow and watch the ball instead of making their man. We saw this tonight at the Sydney FC match.

Jury's well and truly in for me on Cunningham. A lot of huffing and puffing, very little quality.

I thought Cunningham and Reira covered acres of ground today, huge work rates. Lia also.

We won. That's the main point.

Sydney were terrible for the most part, their finishing was woeful and they presented us with the ball god knows how many times, particularly in the first half.

Ifill made a huge difference, and after he went off we struggled for a while.

The Phoenix's finishing, and the way we used it around the box in good positions, was terrible.

Huysegems was the worst offender.  We should have had that game dead and buried by half time.

Lia was one of our better players!

Our dead ball kicks were terrible

I saw enough of Bertos to make me think he should start before Hicks or Cunningham.

Reira is looking the business. Cunningham has great pace but not much of a footballer.

nice to remember what a win feels like

pleased with the noise we made

and as a bonus Farina left empty handed

pleased to see Iffy start - his injury took some of the gloss off the win

hope he surprises us and recovers for next season

Time to sign two quality players - int striker and a quality aussie midfielder like griffiths to add some more steel in mf

Huge relief to have witnessed our first win of the season - white knuckled tension to the end.

Shame about Paul Ifill. This will take time and leaves a hole in our team - an injury cover becomes now an option and a necessity.

Not sure what others think but (apart from Sydney clearly forgetting to put their football boots on) I reckon we won because the game was played at a slow pace. Any faster team might have prevailed over us tonight.

Is it just me, or are others also suspecting Carlos of not pulling his weight? His free kicks were simply mediocre as if he did not try hard enough. Cunningham may be a middling player at best, but at least he appears to be committed, he runs at the opposition and he stares wide-eyed as if his life depended on it. Hernandez looks like he expected applause just because he turned up.

Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days

To me, Carlos looks like a guy on a losing team. Frustrated and just over it. Plus he hasn't seen his family in months. Especially this time of year you can understand if his heart isn't in football.

Bling, Bling, why do you cough up the ball?
Bling, Bling, the crappiest team of them all
Bling, Bling, I stare at the score on the wall
And I stand in the zone impatiently
Won't you pass more to Chianese
So, Bling, Bling, why do you cough up the ball?

Not sure how people think Lia had a good game? I didn't see him do very much at all? Not terrible, but not great.

Carlos did have a nice pass for the goal but FFS the shooting and free kicks from him are awful.

Well that was just... DumbFC vs DumberFC.

I think I've never watched such a disorgaized, poor quality football game in my life before.

I still enjoyed it though cuz we won but my word Kermet the Frog would have got a hat-trick in this one...

One thing is for sure, no other team will make life as easy for us this season as Sydney did today LOL

Jeesus just been reading this last page of comments. OK not the best footy in the world but who cares? We've been playing good football and lost. We beat a team and that's what matters. If we start winning regularly then we can talk about the quality of the football.

What's the news on Ifill???

Ok - I admit it,  I put $20.00 on Sydney to win the comp out right. About a week be for last night.

Who else can I be on this week WSW - yes maybe $50 on that one

Yeah it was scrappy but it was still a win. Hopefully that's what we needed to start firing this season. Gutted about Ifill :(

Took a few noobs along and they had a real good time, thought the fz was awesome - except the long yellow army chant. To be honest, and I know I might cop some flack for this, but I'm not a fan of it either. Last week was funny but if you do that every week it's gonna get old quick. I think it's better to do short sharp chants and to keep up the variety, especially because they can be responsive to what's going on on the pitch. Otherwise it can seem like the game itself is secondary to the fever zone, which I don't think is what we want to achieve.

Anyway, just wanted to put that out there. Otherwise though that was an epic game for the fans in the stadium - the atmosphere has been awesome the last few weeks. Imagine what it could be like if we had a crowd of 12,000!

Yeah I didnt think Bertos was anything special. Was ok.

Huysegems was good in every aspect except his finishing and the offsides. Our midfield was very good at breaking down Sydney when they did push forward. Still not sold on Siggy, he was good but has his usual brain fades and it almost cost us again last night. I would like to see Boxall given a chance ahead of Siggy.

And whats up with Carlos' shooting? Its been terrible.

I think it's really harsh to write us off as terrible - yeah we make mistakes but that's part of learning to change your style.

I think the area's of our game that impressed me were:

- our midfield squeeze, at times this was really good and we pressured Sydney into turning the ball over

- our passing in the middle third, especially the amount of times we manged to find a strikers feet through the middle

- our movement, much much much better than last season

Area's we need to work on:

- crossing, or the final pass before we have a shot as well as our option taking - several times Ifil passed when he should of shot and Stein did the opposite.

- fullbacks need to work harder on showing the man on the outside - they were letting them cut inside to often.

- marking and contesting on corners - still pretty woeful.

Just a couple of things from last night......Was there are a problem with fentons boots?  he seemed to get either tangled up in them or fell over a fair few times last night. Also i think that Reira was pretty decent, the odd pass going astray but generally his passing is very good

think Ernie will take this win and be very happy that finally after playing well we manage to take the 3 points. Sure we were wasteful infront of goal and we have to be thankful that Sydney were just as wasteful. It was good to see Ifill start - but was he up to playing more the 45 minutes? maybe not, a busted achilles, from what I understand is hard to avoid and probably would have happened whether he started or not - we won't see him again this season and if he returns next year he won't be the same.

I though Kenny did really well - those bagging his lack of football ability I think are being a little harsh, consider the acclimatisation he has had to go through. He works hard and has been getting more involved over the last few weeks. His defensive work along with Lia and Reira helped disrupt a lot of the SFC attacks. He has pace and puts opposition defenders under pressure. I beleive he'll be a really good player for us come next season.

Bockie for mine still looked a little disinterested, the touble we have now with Ifill injured is there is only Tyler as a logical striker option with Stein. Which means we have 3 front men who couldn't score in a brothel.

I'm stoked with the win and I'm pleased we've broken that duck but Ernie still has a lot to work on to make us a better football playing team.

SFC would have been second on the table, just behind Brisbane, if they had beaten us last night.

The comments on the quality of the game are a bit harsh, it's just the a-league. At least it was entertaining.

Damn shame about Ifill :(
