[Krishna] was initially deemed a long-shot to return against the struggling Roar but captain Andrew Durante said the outlook for the Fiji international had brightened.

"I was in physio [yesterday] and Roy was there," Durante said.

"They're going to check him out [today] and see how he is, obviously with hamstrings you don't want to take too much of a risk but he is a chance to play."

Krishna's injury was a minor, grade one tear and while coach Ernie Merrick won't want to unduly jeopardise his health, they can afford to take a bit of a punt given the coming A-League break.

With the focus in Australia going on the Asian Cup, the Phoenix's next game is not until February 2 - a return trip to Brisbane to play the Roar.

"We've got three weeks to recover after this, so it gives us a good chance to really go at them and throw everything at it," Durante said.

I live in Christchurch but my elderly parents are big Phoenix fans so I usually watch games at their place over some Indian takeaways.
