So you would select a forward line, based on stats and bar graphs?

Very American.

Just thought it would be good to take a look at another angle other than "he scored a goal". In small sample sizes, goals are a combination of skill and luck, and statistics can sometimes disentangle how much each is influencing.

But if you think that I'd choose a forward line based on three bits of data, then no, I wouldn't. Not sure many Americans would either.

Cracking day in Welly. 3 points tonight in Melbourne to cap it off. It's on.

4-2 to Victory.

2-1 each half.

Sheridan to get off the mark

Want 2-1 to us but think it'll be 2-2. We're on an 8 game unbeaten streak and we still can't be positive?

Finally game day!

Huge week for the boys coming up, I'll be happy if we can nick a point in Melbourne purely because it's such a difficult place for us to pick up results.

Going to go 1-1, Krishna to get his 10th for the season and some jammy flog to get one for Victory. COYN!

The streak's got to end sooner or later. Against Vucktree away seems the most likely place.

Only 11 seats avaiulable for sale in the away bay, should be a great atmosphere for the Melbourne based Nix fans.

Thought I'd run some stats on Sheridan, Williams, and Krishna

The chart below shows Sheridan's stats in the Polish, Cypriot, and now A-leagues. Basically, he's expected to score ~0.38 goals per game, and make 0.14 assists. (Obviously have to make an assessment of how these leagues compare with A-league)

I've just got this season's data for Williams and Krishna. They both show that expected goals is a bit less than actual goals for both this season, which could indicate a bit of luck, or also that they're managing to score in positions that most other players couldn't. To me, looking at these, I'd think Sheridan should start.

Blue bar is expected goals. Orange is actual goals. Grey is assists.

Thanks for your work in putting this together. However, it shows Krishna and Williams stats in a Phoenix environment, while for Sheridan this is based on teams where he was surrounded by players unrelated to those he is now playing with.   We cannot readily expect him to just repeat the same outcome when working alongside completely new people so early on.

Both Krishna and Williams have overachieved so far in terms of goals (based on the graph).  But we do not know if this is what Sheridan's role will be . He has, for example, produced a couple of excellent passes to Krishna in games against WSW and against CCM, but did not score (I am not sure if his passes would count as an assist for the above table).  I would be keen to see this graph towards the end of the season and only related to Phoenix performances (for Sheridan). And I hope it'll show he will have overachieved.

Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days

The team is in, Mandi/Rufer replace Butters/Kopa in midfield. Sheridan still on the bench.

Great news that Victory are playing tonight. 3 extra days for us.

Until you realise we've got Victory, Sydney and City next week in the space of 6 days ?

Would Victory be likely to rotate their side against us? Considering we traditionally aren't brilliant away in Victoria. Think the 1-1 draw the other week might have put that issue to bed though...

Same line up as 0-0 against Adelaide then

Were the rest sold to Victory fans? Put them in the Nix zone and then blame Nix fans.
