OK, thanks anyway.

Not sure of Steve-O's take on things but I reckon the Smiths were far and away the best UK Band of the '80's....

Buffon, I'm sure Jeff doesn't need you as his little sidekick every time we have words, so you just be on your way.

Jeff - I don't know how you think me moaning on here about losing is 'taking delight'. Clearly it's the exact opposite.

Last night was great, I posted as such, and I wasn't on more because I was out at a pub.

I was on here taking great delight at our win v WSW just a couple of weeks ago, but don't let that get in the way of your vendetta and myth-making.

Ciao.

Boxall has been a real find.

fuckn aye!

I'm sorry I doubted the attacking power of Boxall- he's also bloody hard to shake off the ball when he's not doing his power surges...as well as being good in the air. Definitely one of our top 11 footballers- thinking back to the knock down he provided for that goal early on in our season too.

been surprised he hasn't featured that much as he seemed to be good for AWs and have good pedigree. Perhaps he may look to go back overseas? Europe or back to the MLS or somewhere? As loathe as I would be to lose him from a Phoenix point of view, from an NZ football point of view I'd love him to get the chance to get into a higher league. Well I guess let's see if we can win the title first...!!

Lucky for the Nix, Mike's last spell overseas (apart from Victorian  Premier League last year)  at Vancouver Whitecaps in MLS wasn't a successful one and he was dropped ("waived") after one and a bit seasons. Made quite a few apps in his first season at Vancouver in 2011 but was felt to be surplus to requirements in 2012. No other MLS sides were interested in picking him up.

Unlikely any MLS team would want to give a foreign player slot to him for now either.

But he's doing great at the Nix right now. Would have to have a couple of very good seasons to attract overseas interest and he'd probably prefer to build a career at the Nix the next few seasons anyway. His professional career hasn't really got going until now.  Luckily for us, I see him staying for at least a few seasons...

Was a amazing game to be at and still buzzing.

I was thinking we lost some pace down the wing when we lost Fenton, but never been so happy to be wrong. Thought Boxall had an amazing game and wish he had manage to put that chance he had away.

Riera is one of my favourite players at the moment. Such an good work rate and he controls the midfield.

Also so happy for Brockie to break his duck.

Yeah agree. When the Phoenix get in more of a bargaining position (like Top 4 contenders) they need to get Sky to pull Mike Cockerill in, with new comments guy for our home games. Probably the most insulting thing of all is the lack of home work, esposed time and time again. Really amateur. With most fringe fans watching home games on TV right now, I just wonder if the Phoenix realise what damage is being done with these 2 guys. Sadly De Jong's voice is awful. Not his fault, but embarrassing on air as he struggles to put two sentences together. Just hope they bring Aussies in for the big games. Maybe one day we'll have Phoenix TV - with subscriber options to see some world football live, and a alternative commentary of our home games.

Fred De Losers voice is like Grant Fox's - bland and mono tone. As for his mate, let's not go there. He might as well call the player of both teams "The player" for all his cock-ups. I hope to watch the replay later today and will note most of the usual screw ups.

Main difference for me this season is the non-stop pressing of the opposition. Has taken time for the players to learn what to do when different runners/balls going past them- who covers who, but it is starting to click. Then when you make it work against a team like the Victory who try to pass it out under all circumstances, the pressure can lead to mistakes, frustration and then you just have to be good enough to capitalise on them.

Reira has been great the last few games, Boxall I must admit has suprised me, but he is a monster for a footballer. Only player I have seen with a physique like his was Brazil central defender Lucio who was a brick wall himself. He has pushed good players off the ball like they aren't even there and seems to have very good ball playing ability too

I remember Merrick or someone saying we would hit 4 or 5 past someone soon, wouldn't have picked the Victory, but was great to watch!  Long may it last

was trying to read the whole thread but had to skip the last 3-4 pages as was getting impatient. not sure if anyone else really mentioned it but stein's touch to bring the ball down on that last goal was world class

That kind of touch is what you sign imports for

Can anyone tell me why Piney isn't on TV? wtf Sky?

Because Fred allegedly has an iron clad contract that allows him to go only when he wants to, not when they want him gone. His co commentator probably has a similar one. I reckon we should get the 12th Man (Billy Birmingham) in to do the commentaries using the wired world of sport charactors.

Great match with loads of noise from the fever crew, well done to all. Couple of question though,

Who was the man of the match? I thought Riara was excellent again

Was I wrong to expect a crowd closer to 8k? heard someone on these forums saying they had a ticket with PAX 7000 or so.. guess not(?)

love boxall at right back, does get caught out at times but has got the speed and strength to go forward easily

this game proves that boyd deserves to start again, he was always running and kept the back 4 under pressure, I hope brockie doesn't start next week just cause he scored, but with Cunningham and hernandez out to costa rica maybe there be a spot for him

Brockie was very efficient. One chance, one goal, plus an assist. If he is back in form, he'll start over Boyd.

Post match interviews

"That challenge begins next week against Brisbane Roar, with the Phoenix facing the league leaders without two of Saturday's goal-scorers in Carlos Hernandez and Kenny Cunningham.
The pair leave with the Costa Rican national team on Sunday to play two friendly games in South America as warm-up for the World Cup in Brazil later this year."

What what?! Brisbane with no Carlos and Kenny?

The PAX number is the number of tickets issued or sold, while the attendance is how many go through the gates. Complementary tickets and season tickets not used on the day mean that PAX is higher than attendance

Yeah it's purely the amount of tickets printed. There's literally hundreds handed out to various sponsors and their employees, other organisations etc... Last year at work every week we were given free tickets from Revera that went unused. PAX last week was over 9k..

"What what?! Brisbane with no Carlos and Kenny?" (Can't quote on app)

But yeah we have lost them both for the game but Roar will be without Berisha too.

I think we will see Boyd and Brockie both starting with Hicks moving onto the bench.

If the rest play like we did last night we will be fine without them.

Great result you guys, I enjoyed it. Thought Boxall is getting better with every game. I like the way you kept pressing the Victory and kept them off their game. Loved Stein's goal the most. Keep this up and the playoffs are looking good.

Cool thanks. Were you expecting more people anyway due to the weather, nix form, and being a saturday evening? I was a little disappointed  not to crack 7k but thought those of us who were there made a good amount of noise.

You work at SKY. Enquire as to the deal with Fred and Dewhurst. Perhaps you can point them at this forum to show dis-satisfaction cause they really are shit house.

This.

But really, I could also rave about Boyd... he was fantastic... so was Stein, and Reidenton when he came on and Brockie at pressing the defence. This to me was the enduring highlight of the game, the number of times we pressed, and won the ball in the Melbourne half... and Riera was at the centre of a lot of this.

Lia, much as it pains me to say it, was superb. And Durra, Siggy, Boxall and Manny were just brilliant, individaully and as a unit.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Phoenix fans. We have to win them over one fan at a time.

I'll say it. Lia had a great game, not just last night but also the last 3-4 weeks. Credit where it's due.

Shows that if u keep possession you can win games  .Boxall was great with those surging runs..just don't pass it to or behind him as he is like a runaway train.  Wish he had scored off that chance.

We will lose something when Reira gets his 5th yellow.

Shame we don't get to see them back at ROF until 16th Feb.
