There is a whole load of stupid in this thread started by Horsehead and topped off by Tonya. As 2nd Best said (and Ifill tweeted) cheerio. Go on. Be the 'typical NZer' you are. Its well documented on this forum that we only get decent crowds when we are winning. We are a nation of bandwagoners so go on, be a typical NZer. That's a great response too 2nd Best. You know when the mods get off the fence and stick it up your ass, you really should check yourself.

I have to take my hat off for folks that stuck around for that (or most of it) because it was a trainwreck. There was a mix of a little overconfidence, missing a couple of players, the way they played and their tactics and playing in that god awful strip. I have to agree with Ernie that you flush it away and don't analyse too much but you also don't forget the lesson. Its fair to say that we as a collective fan group expected a win so are equally guilty of overconfidence. This league produces strange results every week (the Jets have beaten Roar in all 3 games) so considering we have had 8 games of good results, we were due to come back down to earth a little and that's not too bad a thing for the home stretch. If anything, I hope it makes the team go 'we were rubbish, but we need to knuckle down and get back to the winning mode'

I can recall last year when we played the Heart and my Dad said 'That Williams is a good striker' and I choked with laughter. I personally do not rate him but he is scoring goals for them and just tonked us for a hat trick. For a player I don't rate, I would happily swap him for Brockie. At least off the ball, Williams has a work rate. The commentary about Brockie/Stein axis has been done to death but you have to ask the question of Ernie that 'Everyone else can see it, so why have you come back to it?' Does he not want to leave a player of his experience out of the team? The problem in this teams structure/pattern/setup, Brockie is the square peg to the round hole. He needs a work ethic off the ball and he needs to really work on making the dummy/phantom runs that create space for others to run into especially if you are not in form yourself. You can't just sit there on the line and expect the ball to be given to you and 'off you go, go and score son'. Ifill can do that, Brockie can't. Tyler Boyd is the better fit for the team.

Smithy's call that Manny moves back into that screening role and put Lia back into the role is the right one. He has excelled at that this season - as a ball playing midfielder. He is not a defensive midfielder, he is not an attacking midfielder. He sits in the middle of the field and is a conduit from Riera to Carlos (or whomever has the Riera role). Ridenton is a developing player so let him develop. Hicks is better suited higher up the field so lock in Manny and Lia and then build around that. You have Kenny, then Carlos, Stein and Boyd. Brockie, Ridenton and Hicks are on the bench.

I also now wonder if C-Diddy wants a job with the Internet Party. That line about waking up to Internet we can afford really struck a cord with me mate.... :o) Kim Dotcom needs to get you on board

Woke up this morning and am still stunned. However I will get over it. Amazing how things change in a week.....we were riding high, everyone loved us now after ONE bad game we have angst and some tossers saying they will not watch anymore matches.....good grief. Arsenal got dicked by 5 by Liverpool and bounced back last night and beat them.

Shit happens people......move on!!!!

I think Ernie and the players will have learnt a big lesson. There is a big difference from being battling underdogs to the form team in the comp. Everyone is now aware of what you do and bring in tactics to combat us.....which is what the Heart did. What is important now is how we respond. Many in the team(especially the youngsters) will have learnt a valuable lesson. In pro football you are only as good as your last game. If you drop your intensity, if you don't come out firing every match you will get dicked.

Ernie is an experianced level headed guy. He will realise what went wrong. Lia is not a screening DM. It did not work with Kenny and Hicks. Brockie should not be starting. Don't mess up the Stein/Carlos/Boyd combo. What he needs to address is the lack of intensity on defense. We had been swarming over everyone in defense. Yesterday Engelaar had acres of room and nobody tried to shut him down. I am sure we can turn it around next week but we always struggle against CCM...especially away.

Was starting to get used to winning and not worrying about the results of the upcoming week, success makes you soft.

Now got a full dose of healthy Kiwi scepticism - good reality check, means the team can't be complacent and will be hungry for the yest of the year. Now is when we rebuild for the finals, otherwise we may have been overconfident and under prepared.

Agree. I think we are on similar lines.

CCM have been pants recently and I actually do feel for the coaching staff  because when you get your best players transferred out every season, you are left holding scraps but yet they usually feature in the play offs. I'm glad there is no Matt Simon cause he is a prick and missing Josh Rose whom has been out of form anyway, will be a bonus. They are at home, due a result soon and this is not a game to underestimate either. I would try to use the pace of Kenny on the counter to exploit Roux when he gets caught too high up the field and possession is turned over (and he is so guilty of it).

A thoughtful post JV. Come on guys, one bad result doesn't deserve all this forum angst. Every team has off days, ask Arsenal. Just suck it up and get down to the next home game and cheer them on even more. That's what being a football fan is all about. Sometimes a spanking can be a good wake-up call and perhaps some compacency had crept in with the previous good results.

Generally a pleasure to read your posts Wayward and sums up where I am.

Unlike other members of the City fanbase who are once again causing discredit to the rest and being twats.  But no shock there, for all the good in the 2k that go to City games there has always been that half a percent...

And name calling by the main administrators of this site is not causing discredit?
Funny how you rightly ban or warn posters for personal attacks but are happy to do it yourselves?

But not just talking about myself.

If I or anyone else had called some a Dickhead or a Twat then we would of been asked to refrain from doing so again.

I also think it helps if you have some credit in the bank. I abuse people regularly (well I have lightened up a bit) but I also like to think I make more than enough 'reasoned' (even if it is my own reasoning) post to get away with a couple.

However your unbridled glee at how a team that isn't even in a league in the same country as the team you support (or so you keep telling us) has lost is just embarassing to you and your club but I doubt you will see that.

When City lose there isn't an influx of Phoenix fans gloating in the ACFC thread.  When you play in the Club World Cup pretty much all of this forum support City.  For you to then behave like this does your club a disservice and just puts people off attending ASB game or supporting City if this is the prevading attitude.

You're an ambassador for your club on New Zealand's biggest football forum and you have the chance to paint them in a good light (as BlueMagic generally does) but intead you have a chip on your shoulder so big I'm surpised you can stand.

I actually dont care Ive got thicker skin than that!
Just think its a bit hypocritical thats all.
And what did I actually say to warrant that response, I thought it was funny that the day my team wins 10-0 a team I openly dislike gets done by 5 at home.
Its called banter and frankly Id expect better comebacks than Dickhead and Twat

It seems for you 90% of players are the worst in the league, but I can think of plenty worse strikers. Ive always liked Williams. Even for the Fury he was one of the few that made things happen.
Guess you don't like people with different opinions to yourself.
At least I watched the whole game.
Whoa whoa whoa. You just didn't do a pot kettle black thing did you Leggy? I know I am a miserable cunt but you sit right beside me when it comes to people not liking your own opinion.

Haha i reckon.

Ok Leggy, you watched more of the game than I did. Now tell me, what did i miss out on after walking out at 4-zip that i hadn't already seen up until that point of the match...?

I know when to hang around, I know when to not waste me time. If we were actually playing decent footy, I would've stayed. Ive sat through plenty of losses, but that was by far the worst. Not only did we get smashed result wise, we got smashed across every area of the park. There wasnt anything to see. There wasnt even a glimmer of hope to suggest anything was about to change for the remainder of the game.

But if bagging me on this makes you think of yourself as being more of a fan than others then congrats to you. I dont need to justify myself as being any more or less of a fan than anyone, to anyone. Ive paid for my season ticket and i turned up - so im an avid fan as far as myself and the club are concerned. Hope you head along to the next home game Leggy, i know i will :)

Im not an ambassador for ACFC.
But I would say you and 2nd best certainly are for your club so I guess only you can decide if your responses reflect favourably on your club.
As for not attending ASB games I do t think the opinion of one supporter is going to affect attendances!
And as I think you have pointed out previously mine is not the prevailing opinion of ACFC supporters.

5 is hard to swallow and it was horrible game to watch, it started right after the kick off, last week we had two chances in the first minute, this week we lost the ball... Later in the game, Siggy had enough, took the ball and ran down the field ready to pass it to Brockie but he had no idea where to run to receive the pass.

We have to get over that (and some of the forum trolls) and the team has to move on. Hope that at the end of the season we did not miss the points.

They will move on and should still make Top6 too good not too really.

Thats what made yesterdays result all the more surprising and funny for me anyway.

If your losing like that every week then there isnt the same reaction on this forum as people are resigned to it, as was sadly the case around Forsyth Barr yesterday I didnt see people leaving before the end like apparently was the case in Wellington.

Fuck it.

Headache gone , tongue no longer needs shaving , sun's up , Jr had a good session at training this am , not working today so can take him to Futsal tonight. So we got tanked yesterday. All the angst ignores that Heart were very very good. We stayed til the end and clapped the boys off. Why? They're our team , that's why. They didn't go out there deliberately to lose 5-0. No-one played well , including Ernie. But they'll learn from this , and trite as it seems , it may just have been one of those games that happens to most sides once in a while.

Should there be changes? Sure , but as has been posted previously , squad depth is limited so wholesale changes just aren't feasible.

Merrick doesn't strike me as a complete idiot. ANd the players  , those that I know , have pride. Doubt this will happen again. To those who have thrown their toys- see yah. JUst means more chips and soft drink next time for Jr and me.He's already sorted out his starting X1 .

Cos the Heart played excellent balls from the deep with very well timed runs from the forward players They knew what they were doing.

It would have been a joy to watch if hadnt have been the opposition.
