Ha ha, wrong. The stupid balls through the middle stopped after Vinnie set foot on the pitch. Ye of little faith.

the only bad thing about us winning is Doloras

You know you may actually be right. The keeper ran 30-40 yards to shoulder charge a guy for holding a ball at a throw. Name a keeper thats sober enough to do that

It's amazing how we fell apart without Bonevacia. Rodriquez got involved when we were going well and then disappeared agiain in the last 20. Jury still out on that one.

1. Lose at home 2. McGlinchey scores 3. Nathan Burns ex-Newcastle Jets scores That's got to be the "nightmare trifecta" for CCM? #CCMvWEL

There wasn't much anyway. And they spent most of it talking about the Mariners.

It's crazy isn't it?  Absolutely ridiculous bizarre scheduling when another A-League game is on 30 minutes later on the same channel!

I did say we're probably better set up for away games after last week.

We really must kick on next week and beat the Jets.  Pretty tricky few games ahead after that one.

great result that considering how we usually play at ccm -- got to say some of the football wasn't too bad from us either.

Permalink Permalink

What a great result that is. Wasn't looking promising before the equaliser as we barely had the ball and what a poxy goal to concede. Fortunate not to be called offside leading up to the penalty, but then last defender from behind on a goal scoring opportunity is supposed to be a red card isn't it? Poor penalty but lucky the rebound fell to one of ours, and it was never going to be anyone else in against them was it? Felt we were comfortably in control after that until the late onslaught.

Great second goal. Good work from McGlinchey and fantastic cross from Doyle who recovered well from the howler to have quite a solid game. Burns was all class and Durante was a rock in the 2nd half. Like a magnet any time the ball went near our goal and great save from Moss late on too.

Let's hope this provokes a lot of positive feeling over the next week and gets people along next Sunday.

Thought Moss made a couple of good saves and Doyle recovered well after that poos start. Who was the official man of the match?

Hoping its McGlinchey again, just because it was against CCM

a bit ugly but great three points. Defence actually looked pretty solid, although a few less panicky clearances would help the nerves!

Thought that Manny struggled the whole game - especially in the first half against Rose. He kept running into Siggy and running out of position. He always seems to have a strangely timid game every 1 in 5 or so. Siggy and especially Dura much improved so credit to them.

Apart from Doyle's obvious stuff-up, I thought he did well to come back from it. Should take a lot of heart from his 2nd half performance. He does need to cut out these errors though - twice it has directly led to a goal. Still, young and inexperienced so hopefully he will learn. Riera had similar issues setting into A-League football in his first few games. (though obviously not as disastrously).

Biggest question marks for me are Brockie and Gorrin. A-Rod showed a bit when we were on top, but shirked challenges and just wasn't good enough for the other 70 minutes of the game. Goes missing far too often and is shown in clear contrast to Roly who gets stuck into everything. I think there is a good player in there somewhere but if we get that out of him i and how long it will take is a different question. Have to remember he has never played senior football properly before.

Brockie had a better 2nd half and did well to make the run for the goal + provide the cut back, but thought his first half was awful.

Thought the game was a lot like last week's, played both well and poorly for lengthy periods. As with last week the Roly, McGlinchy and Burns combination looks great when it's humming.

We gave the ball away a lot, particularly Riera, Doyle and Muscat - big lift in passing accuracy required. Just like last week we defended too deep and sat off them giving far too much room.

Great 3 points but plenty of room for improvement - when it does click it will be great to watch.

He dribbles a lot and the opposition dont like it - you can see it all over their faces. (Ron Atkinson)

Think thats A Rods problem as well,he dosnt look as composed as he did in some of thepreseason hitouts.Really need him to find his feet in this league soon as Roly is starting to look like he is going to cause some problems for many teams. With those two firing and Wee Mac and Reira is sure gonna be exciting in the coming weeks.

No posts during the game should be taken seriously. It's a bit like going onto the pitch and elbowing someone in the back of the head - you wouldn't do it in everyday life. The fan version of white line fever.

Really hoping Roly isn't injured. Can't see any other reason why Ernie took him off.

I'll take the three points.....well done lads.

A bit of a grind to get them but we hung in there. Start of the season with Perth at home, CCM away and Jets at home I thought ......should be 9 points if we are serious about top 6 finish.

I sure hope we have some considerable improvement left because after two games we look like bottom half of the table battlers. We have never really dominated any important games preseason and we appear to be struggling to dominate teams like CCM and Perth. I guess we will find out where Ernies team are at in the big games following the Jets game. After watching the Victory,Adelaide, Melb city etc I am a little scared of what we are in for. We seem to be carrying 3 or 4 players who are simply out of form/not up to this level/past it.

On the plus side Burns, Roly and Weemac are fantastic pickups.....Our second goal was a ripper. If we can get Burns and Weemac on the ball more often we will really trouble most sides. The defense looked more organised than last week. They showed real grit in holding out for the win. Can't blame Doyle too much as he is still learning his trade and his involvement in the goal was top notch. Brockie....Hmmmm!

So how did our fans there get treated after shirts off in the 80th minute? Did the fun police step in this time??

Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

I had a couple of thoughts proven wrong - first was that WeeMac couldn't score goals and the second was that Roly was surplus to requirements with A-Rod and Riera.

Great start for us from both of them.

Still to early to pass any judgement on the team,i certainly think the little they have shown so far can give us cause to think that good times are ahead.Think people forget that we  have a few players who are new to this league and our team, even Reira can be classed as relatively new as he missed a fair bit of last season. I think once these guys have settled we could be in for a much better season.

How good is Burns? Offers so much in the final third.

Three for me, and two for them.

The pitch wasn't great so Im gonna forgive some of the giving away of the ball.

Doyle got better after his disaster so well done to him for that.

Brockie , well well well, he was awful for the most part. Should never have been given the Pen. At least he set up the second goal, but I wouldn't start him in the team.

Struggled to notice Rodriguez in the first half. In the second half he was more obvious and sat very central alonside Riera. I thought he had a good second half but very defensive minded.

Burns , McGlinchy and Roly is the power house and they had excellent games.
