If only Rogerson ever looked up.

If only Krishna looked up, Rogerson would have scored!

It was probably more of a case of striker's instinct/arrogance.

Krishna had every right to go for goal in that situation. Not sure why people bringing it up. It was good save.

He needs to shoot or pass though, whenever he tries to round the keeper he seems to fudge it up. His pace and shooting are his strengths, not his close control dribbling.

Fuck this stupid game

Or the long, tedious Tim Brown debate.

Btw, what's Tim doing these days? Still involved in football at all?

Because a lot of strikers need to realise it is more important for the team to score than for them to score individually. Unless they have Suarez-esque finishing. Oh wait, Suarez, Neymar and Messi unselfishly routinely pass it off to each other in such situations for extremely easy open goal finishes. Why? Because they know their finishing will give them a goal 70% of the time in such situations, but they'd rather the 100% of an open goal. Whereas for Krishna such a situation wouldn't give him such a large percentage chance of scoring in the first place anyway, so it's better to have a guaranteed goal.

What about - Will Gui be the new Carlos? good FK taker, but plods about the rest of the time?

Carlos is/was a naturally better player than Gui will ever be.

To be fair when Carlos dominated the competition was weaker.

You could say that Carlos was twice the player that Gui is..........

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

It's funny how fat for a footballer isn't even fat.

I like tautologies because I like them.

He wasn't Jardel fat, I thought he was reasonably (relatively..) fit when he came to us actually.

It's funny how he didn't fit our system but apparently Gui, who is even slower, does.

Anyway,

I'm not sure Fink and Lia can play in the same team either. They're both plodders.

Finkler was my biggest disappointment from the City game. He made life so tough for us without the ball, Krishna and Watson were trying to press but Finkler let the side down in that regard - would have McGlinchey there just based on work rate alone. Was not able to maintain possession very well either, apart from set piece delivery is a poor mans Hernandez, and doesn't have the excuse of being overweight for such lethargy.

He is like a ridiculous luxury type player, like those Lamborghini phones which are no better performing than other high end phones but cost 10 times the price.

Yeah, basically what I thought when we signed him. I thought it was a mistake and still do. Of course, I hope he comes right, but I just don't think a team like us can carry a player like him. MV were struggling to carry him towards the end. To make it worse; he doesn't even have the surprise factor anymore. All teams know exactly what he can do.

I think by the end of the season Gui will largely be a bench warmer.

I think we're carrying two import midfielders who wouldn't make it at any other top 4 A-League club.

Depending on the opposition he could be useful. If we are likely to be without the ball and/or needing to press then I wouldn't pick him, games were we will be able to control the game more he would be good to pick.

One game into the season, missing players against a side likely to finish top 2... and already the knives come out. Take no prisoners on this forum.

Permalink Permalink

Not knives, just realism. Gui won't suddenly get a burst of speed in the next game that enables him to press well. Agree with Bullion that he'd be good in certain games - against CCM and Jets - but maybe not away to Perth.

Gui plays a different position that he did for Victory. Much more a false 9 than as a 10 with Berisha in front of him.

That policy seems to have long gone. Some in this team think they are bigger than they are. Frankly the way they act at times with little respect for people is BS.

Sure, for now. Hard to say after one game where we got beaten handily. I'm sure thing will change, Ernie wasn't happy with the stucture.

I expect Rufer to come and  start against Perth.

It was more his performance without the ball, considering we hardly saw it in the first 53min. In defence we were disjointed - you had our attackers trying to close down their defence but City could switch so easily because Finkler did not press City's defenders, pick up a midfielder or seem to be closing passing lanes. We either don't press and drop into our half and compress play or if we press then Finkler will have to do better - as much an issue with Ernie with our haphazard approach to pressing when City did such a better job when they still had 11 on the park (JVS did a better job than Ernie - not something I would have though I would be saying).

Finkler's performance with the ball was nothing to write home about it.

For the quality of player he is I was disappointed when he constantly got tackled or was unable to release the ball fast enough and a dangerous attack broke down.

I still think he has a lot to offer and will play much better than we saw, just that he was one of the weak links in the team.

Were our attackers making the right runs?

How did he look in pre season... I think he will look better with Kosta because like Krishna he has the pace but maybe a little more game awareness and nous about him.

Permalink Permalink

Things I don't like about Finkler: slow and lacks physicality, hardly ever plays the full 90, head drops when things aren't going his way.

Things I like: a true match winner who has won MV many a game with brilliant goals and attacking play, combines very well with other like-minded attacking players, no super sized Carlos-style ego.

As frustrating as he can be to watch there's no reason to think that he, Kosta and Krishna can't do the biz for us this season once they get into their stride.

Anyway, we are wildly off topic. Why aren't we talking about A-Rod?
