I remember him dribbling over the sideline Totori style

Not exactly fair reflection on his play. We needed his mobility and I think he is an improvement on Parkhouse or on Watson, from the early signs against Perth. He is a young bloke and he showed good commitment and decent skills.

He did ok for his first game, but to be honest, he didn't do anything special

Better than Parkhouse, Rufer, Watson, Rogerson, etc. have been this season. Also played better than Weemac has over the past few weeks. Not starter quality I'd say, reckon he's made to be a bench option

Did anyone notice (this may have already been mentioned) that when he scored Perth's goal someone was clearly heard through "ah ya C@#t" through the onfield mics.

That was Mitch Nichols, here's a short vid of it for others

yeah, he could be heard swearing at others during the game too.

Poor poor poor ............ defending. The language is not crash hot either but that was a terrible wall setup.

How would you have setup the wall differently? The FK was literally in the middle of the field, so Castro had both sides to aim at. The only way that is going in is if Castro hits it perfectly which he did. Good FK, nothing wrong with the wall. Yes Fox got done to give away the FK but in general all they had was FK's as chances, so I reckon the defense actually did pretty well.

He was very good i thought. Communicated well with backs it seemed. Commanded area qu well. Saved a pen. Impressive

Let's be honest- the decision not to replace Moss has been a bit of a blight on the season, as much as I did enjoy the early sweeping by the two footed Keegan Smith.

This team, especially if Burns gets going and Paracki and Ljujic find that spark again, seems a bit more balance and with some bite and depth.

Anyone think that Castro might have done that fail on purpose? It was an embarrasing pen.

He's done the Panenka before in the A-League and pulled it off. He was just having a good game and it got to his head.

So last night the team walked out to The Datsun Violets - You can't beat Wellington, imo it was cringe. I'm ok with it being a pre-match song, but the walkout song needs to build some crowd atmosphere.

Imo the best we've had for that was Dario G - Carnaval de Paris, it had a natural chant to it, got everyone singing before kick-off, would love ot see it back.

Sirius - 2020 (Evolution) remix was also not so bad, at least built up the atmosphere.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, the walk out song should be Home Again.

Forgot about this one, definitely a great option!

They definitely did play that song at some point last night.

Allegedly

I know Carnival de Paris is a bitch of a trope but it was super easy for the crowd to get into and used to be an awesome way for the team to come out.

I do miss the drumming followed by the crowd.

Was that actually a player?

He must have screamed it to be caught that clearly.  Probably lucky to not get in trouble.

should just put someone on the posts given the position of the freekick.

To be honest, this arguing is pretty petty - it was almost a perfect FK; one that likely wouldn't be kept out in many leagues in the world.

Considering our defensive frailties this season, I am actually quite happy we conceded a goal that I can look at and think 'well, at least we didn't completely gift it to them'.

I think Ljujic will score more too. His shot was good- it reminded me a little of Tim Brown in that it was definitely hitting the target and not blazing over the bar. A little wider and he would have beaten Reddy.

Not wanting to be pedantic, but I thought Ljujic went for placement rather than force and this produced a textbook save from Reddy. Both the shot and the save surely good enough for the highlights reel.

I am a big fan of Ljujic - the Brown comparison is apt. He gets caught out of position a lot but makes things happen.

Personally thought he was average lost the ball a lot and didn't do much, between him and Burns turned over far to much ball in midfield. However i'm not a Parkhouse fan either so this position is problematic. Also Tando isn't an upgrade, probably should have saved the goal and when he came out for one on one his timing was poor too slow, and was very close to being a penalty as it looked like he got more player than ball.

Highlight was Sarpreet thought he was good

give me a break - that free kick was superbly struck

Any fault for the goal would have been around the setting up of the wall. If opposition players get their way into the wall there is a strong chance that they will exit just prior to the free kick being taken leaving a gap to shoot through. To counter all that is needed is for the defensive team (in this case the Nix) to have someone to stand tight behind the opposition player so that when he exits there is no gap to fire the ball through.

I don't think this was the problem at all - Dura and Burns were standing right next to each other, and the ball ended up going between the two of them.

After the last few games I think Ljujic is simply not match fit, which should have been apparent early on but was masked by his decent long range shots and by his reasonably decent corner kicks (but not any better than Ridenton at these).  I looked at his running and tracking  during the Perth game and did not think he was exactly the winner of "Runner of the Day" award. He did enough but should do more with time, as he becomes more familiar with his teammates (esp Krishna).

Actually thought a couple of those ratings were a bit harsh.  Ljujic went very close indeed to scoring again and he’s fairly combative in the middle, Moreso than people give him credit. For the first time in 3 games we got the ball into the final 3rd. Burns made good runs and his touch is still returning and I thought when he played that ball into Singh feet there was going to be a 2nd wonderstrike. AK could have/probably should have scored again and he’ll take comfort from watching big CB Lowry slot that cross from Roy into the net. That’s how you finish.  I thought the guy who worked real hard but who had trouble giving it away was Doyle, but he probably did well to play as many minutes. Great to see Roy. Credit to Tando. Backs looked reasonably organised.

Thought moving forward (perhaps Ljujic) ? Lack a mid’ such as Hernandez, Roly, Fink type guy. Maybe not as important if we are going to play rapid transition attacks? Using Burnsy, Roy.

Dura and Krishna were our tops. Thought they were fair over all. Tando was better than a six I thought.
I see Lowry and Kilkenny both got 8s, although on the FFA's Player of the day awards Ridenton was named best, ahead of Kilkenny.
Just shows scoring an own goal to lose the match doesn't cost much in everyone's eyes, with Lowry still getting top marks.

Lowry did well, just bad luck.

Would we lose anything by leaving out AK and playing Krishna through the middle more to accomodate Lujic, Singh and Paracki?

Playing one up front we are not going to win too much aerially and AK has shown he is not a great finisher inside the box, or the quickest. Perhaps unleashing Krishna through there would create moe opportunities.

I prefer Krishna as a wide player, he seems to do better when cutting in from wide and ghosting behind players. When playing centrally he tends to get marked out of games.
