I call bs, piscopo is clearly better at this stage and if that was the case Waine would come off the bench instead of McCowatt

Waine has fallen out of the picture a bit since a promising start to the season. I know there different players, but Interesting to see Sutton a regular on the bench now compared to Waine.

At the end of the day competition for places is good.

He's never been at the WeeNix. It's more likely he goes off and joins Edge somewhere.

From a source reasonably close to him, I believe this to be true. It would seem that he believes he is being sidelined for not commiting to a longer contract.

Well that's the model right? Young talent long cotracts and get a fee. Break even. Have local stars in the team when you visit Auckland...

What's his chance of a road back? Or on the Sean Lovemore express?

Hot take - Kurto wasn't incredible or anything, our finishing was just pretty average. Look at the chalked off goal, where Hooper shot at the keeper twice and the second luckily went in. Most of our shots just went straight at him

Come on! He might be a ?, but he pulled of some top quality saves.

Kurto is a very good import keeper (just like that Swiss guy at WSW). He is a professional and owes us no loyalty past the one year contract he signed with us.  It is not like he's been our team captain for several seasons, or just about to have a stand named after him, or something.

He is no snake in my books. I have no issues with him moving on to another club in order to build on his career.

Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days

Would be disappointed if that's true, not sure what gives some young players a sense of entitlement. What happened to working hard and earning your place.

Isn't there that whole belief coming out of the Olé camp that the Nix are a Mickey Mouse outfit and any decent player is doing us a favour by playing for us?

Not sure if it's been mentioned, but during his interview with the ACC the other day, Chris Gayle mentioned he was at this game - shame we didn't get a shout-out on his Instagram or anything

He was at the post-match function at the Churchill too.

Was only his second game he hasn't been in the matchday squad, think it's down to what Talay wants as his options off the bench. We had McCowatt and Sotirio covering his positions already

According to The Ole Puppets, their kids would only consider playing for the Nix after a long and successful stint at Barcelona

It's just tough for Waine at the moment because we have two import strikers and he's not good enough to break in. (no one expects him to be better than two seasoned pros; I've liked what I've seen from him though)

Is that actually true? Pathetic if it is. Hilarious given McCowatt is actually one of the weaker regular subs and the rest of the ole gang play pub football in Scandinavia.

I see a lot of heavy stuff on here about McCowatt and I suspect 95 per cent is bull.

I'm sure he could have played in pub football in scandavia this year if he was inclined.

I don't know what he was offered in terms of contract length (and I suspect 95 per cent here don't know either) but would imagine he liked a one year contract as it allows him to play in Tokyo and if he fires allows him freedom to get a gig overseas at a reasonable level with no transfer fee complicating things.

That's just common sense.

He has done ok and based upon his performance this year would likely be offered another deal by the nix.

If he doesn't fire at Tokyo that is what he would take verses pub football.

I take that particular model with a grain of salt. for example, it suggests that Ball's goal was the hardest chance of the game

From my understanding of Xg. He was outside of the box when he chipped it, so it gets less value then shots / chances that were in side the box. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Yes, which makes it a poor measure over a small sample size. Its useful for identifying trends, less useful for analysing single games.

The ones overseas are much more advanced as they take into account where defenders are etc. This one is straight location. Doesn't even care if its a header or shot.

Ah okay. Just watched it again and it was a super finish. There was a defender close and Kurto shut down the options really well. David Ball is well on the way to cementing himself as a Phoenix legend.
