Big game this! A win could see us fourth, a loss and we could start to lose touch with the top six. COYN!

They were in a different league against Victree. Carrusca and Djite are class. If we can beat them at home I'm putting a tenner on us to win the league!

Agree it'll be tough, but hopefully confidence will be back up after the CCM result. Personally I would be happy with a point from this one.

The congestion now means we also needs results to go our way if we are not going to pick up points in the next few weeks

"A point" Wrong mentality! I expect 3 points from the boys.

We want six (points).

But one is better than none.

Still really worried about our midfield without Riera. That 2nd half against CCM was impressive but Adelaide have been in much better form than them. We also have to be careful of not playing too high on defense. I know it makes it easier to maintain possession when you get the ball back but our CBs are too slow to pull it off, especially if the FBs have bombed forward. I rate Moss, but I don't think he's the right type of GK to be rushing out and acting as a sweeper to cover those breaks either.

On the plus side, Adelaide just shipped 4 goals and our lads should have some confidence back now. Should be an interesting match.

People like Coldplay and voted for the Nazis. You can't trust people.

@Number8 I don't expect a one point mentality from the team, I just wouldn't be disappointed as a fan if that's what we came away with. This is the new Phoenix, they don't seem to ever play for the draw, which I think is great.

If we give them time and space we'll struggle - we'll have to start with the intensity we played with in the second half against the Mariners.

I'll be happy with a point.

Worried about how we are going to do the pressing game without Riera. Hope it can be done and we can take another 3 points away.

After the last game Dura said it took them a while to work out how to press them, when they did the goal came.

While Riera is missed it doesn't mean we can't play a pressing game and put pressure on the ball.

Hopefully this game they can work it out before they get on the field and roll the pissants from the get go.

Manny did a pretty good job in there I thought.

agreed, play manny and lia in the mids again and we have a great chance - Caira did well at LB too.

Yeah, Caira was instrumental in the build-up to at least two goals.

We'll we ever see our number 4 on the park?

Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days

I like caira against ccm. But he did seem to forget his defensive role every now and then. the radelaide attackers had great movement against the dictory. Caira and boxall cant be caught high or we will be in the shitter

There were calls for Brockie's head a week or two back- I think that once you are in Ernie's squad you don't get given up on. If you look at how almost all the players have exceeded our expectations ( the only exception being Adams) then I think that we will see Ernie either rethink his role, or put him through some serious re-education on the training pitch before we see him again.

Permalink Permalink

Adams is 19, still have time to develop, and the current '2nd choice' defenders doing well, no need to play him.
Ernie said 'Brockie is mentally exhausted'. Coming in for 30min and make a goal is perfect to get his headspace right. Hope he reach his peak for the finals, tapping jn some important goals. Not much options.

Be nice if he ran into some form about now. Good for him and good for the team.

Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

I would have thought for Ernie's game plan we need them getting forward for the width they give us and options for ball retention and to stretch the back four.  Carlos turned it over a few times last week with players well forward, so we will get caught occasionally.

So I'd just be looking for them both not to go forward at once, and when they go either Manny or Lia need to hold.

Season defining game this one.  Won't be all over if we loose it, by any means, but with a much improved Heart to play again, and Adelaide twice, a win will confirm we can do it without Albert and that we've got the ability in the squad to cover that DM position and make the adjustments that the Heart game showed us we needed.

Those three games v Ad and Heart, plus Victory, and making sure we handle that quick bugger Moraes for Perth are the testers now, I think.  But the draw is great for us from here - it just comes down to beating what gets put in front of us while our opposition play each other and the top teams.  Mind you Brisbane hasn't done us any favours, the last couple of weeks, so god knows really.

Looking forward to Thursday.

I know you guys don't have a NYL team. Have you got some sort of reserves team where guys can get game time?

We have 'Phoenix A', who played a few midweek games against some of ASB Premiership sides. I think that it's ended for the season now that the playoffs have started.

Has to be 3 points, the lads are well capable of it, just stick to what has become our style and not worry about what rads threat is, in other words don't change tactics because of the opposition play our own game. Anything less than 3 points and it becomes a hard task for the top 6. COYN

Carrusca confirmed out - abductor strain. Just a one week injury, perfect for us.

Adelaide are decent but like all teams that rely on possession if you can get the ball off them there will be gaps.  Need a similar plan to Auckland where we played at a high tempo, pushed them hard all over the park and then broke quickly when we got hold of the ball
