I have the bad feeling a ADP dive in 90 minutes and the resulting penalty will kill our dreams.

If ADP is diving does that make it a Wet Dream?

I'll go 2-1, its almost always 2-1 in our games.

I believe current all time record stands at 9-1-9 vs Sydney GF 26 GA 30.

We need to catch up on goal difference.
I'll go for a 4 - 0 win with Brockie getting a brace.

We are probably safe from retaining the spoon based as much as anything on what the two below us have but to be sure we really need to get something out of this game with us playing the tards in the final match.

Heart have Adelaide away then WSW at home but have a better GD than us -5 as opposed to our  -9

Perth have CCM at home and the Smurfs away.  They could quite possibly nick something out of both of them.

At this stage I would probably have money on the Heart finishing last.

Should it be #getridofthespoon or #passonthespoon seeing as we are currently the spooners?

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Manny is suspended for this game, after picking up his 8th yellow of the season against Adelaide.

Manny has been very disappointing this year in the mid (looked good at LB).

Perhaps further evidence that the league has progressed as a couple years ago he looked dynamite there.

Piney just tweeted that Italiano is out for what's left of the season, with a thumb injury, so Spoonley will be on the bench.

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

Time to give Rufer a run imo. I hope we try to hold onto the ball and gain a bit more possession, the last few weeks have been really bad at this.

Why is it time to give him a run? If he had the goods, it would have showed at training.

1) Because something has to change, you cannot keep giving the same players more game time for insipid performances.
2) Morale. After a bad run of results adding new players brings some much needed excitement. I would hope he was hungry for it.
3) Training is not equivalent to games. You cannot know for sure how someone will go until you see them play. You do know that the set of current players is not working.
4) I'm prepared to take a risk against a result now for an improvement for next season.
5) The opposition wont have seen anything of him.

If he is absolutely not good enough then you obviously don't play him, but then why was he signed? However I don't think that is the case. I saw him against the central league selection and he was one of the better players. Reports against Canterbury suggested he was one of the better players. In pre-season clips against a-league opposition he looked promising.

I agree RJ, would rather watch us roll over with Rufer than Lia passing the ball to the opposition. Watching the Nix is like doing lengths in the pool, kinda of enjoyable but really mind numbing repetitive.

Id like us to keep with the best available players and finish at least where we are. I cant handle another spoon.

And im not buying into this match experience argument either. There's nothing to be gained by giving lads like Rufer a game now. Even if he got given 2 it will be half a year or whatever the off season is until his next game. I want the best guys to fight out the last 2 rounds and get a couple of results, not the other way around and have us finish bottom.

Agree with this. It would be different if we were 12 points clear at the top and wanted to rest a few players.

Aside from what AJ13 has said, I'm yet to be convinced that throwing someone as young and inexperienced into a side struggling like ours, in our current situation, does anyone good. I doubt he's good enough to make a massive impact (although I could be wrong) and if he gets sucked into the mire with the rest, it's not going to do his confidence much good.

If he's good enough, his time will come.

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

Yep, we need our strongest XI, beat the bloody Bling, keep a clean sheet. Give the kids something to aim for: try and force their way into the lineup.

Oi Oi Edgecumbe... lets have a clean sheet

Why not bring in Luke Adams then Dino? I mean he has been immune to this much like Rufer.... Watson too. He had good preseason form and having just signed on, would be chomping at the bit. Why not Justin Gulley as well. New to the squad, again was a close signing....

The reason why he does not get a shot is because he is not good enough yet. You don't need to play a player to know that.

But our so called (available) best XI keep losing, and badly!

Starting to feel like Ricki-esque loyalty to some players who are not performing....

So who is under performing and who should replace them then?

We have only got 19 fit players and 1 is suspended for this game. Adams, Rufer & Watson are not gonna change our fortunes over night. I would like to see Hicks get a run again but that isn't a silver bullet either.

Your  last comment is not necessarily true. Some players at training are superb but not good enough in a game and others are not that good in training  are excellent in a game. At any football club on a Thursday when the reserves play the 1st team in a practise game, the reserves usually win.

I can repsect what you are saying Leggy. We are also talking about squad numbers 21, 22, 23 and 24.....

Reserves always get fired up when it comes to playing the 1st team. its so often the case that they win

I totally agree, but now that there is nothing left to play for I would rather that we now gave others a chance to impress while under no presure.  I would rather we tried something different and came last than played the same and came 8th.

The  thing is, besides the poor start and finish so far.., we really don't deserve to come last, during the middle part of the season, we played terrific football, and got the results to show for it,  examples being 5-0 over melb vic and 4-1 away of mariners . yeah we did cop a few pastings aswell but i really don't think we are a wooden spoon team

Eh? 6 pm kick-off? The heading of this thread says 6 pm but Sky's Electronic Program Guide says 7 pm,

as does the A-League website (5 pm Sydney time). Game is definitely at 7 pm NZ time.

Note that daylight saving ends Sunday morning in both NSW and NZ so Sydney remains two hours behind NZ.

A-League website (local Sydney time):

Sydney FC v Wellington Phoenix - #SYDvWEL
6 APRIL 5:00PM  ALLIANZ STADIUM, MOORE PARK
