R3 vs Jets Sunday 5pm McLean Park SS2

               Moss

Bertos Durante sigmund caira

        Riera  muscat

Ifill    Hernandez  Hicks

           Brockie

I expect to see the same line up we started against WSW, except maybe Louie replacing Leo. If the Jets can expose Kenny/Caira as well, then its obvious that it just wont work. Starting Hicks to strengthen the midfield would feel like giving the Jets a little too much respect.

Except that it's obvious to all that Brockie doesn't work as a wide man. Stein or Brockie, imo, not both.

Ok. it's been a while.

THE Prediction is back!

The Blessed Ernie is well in charge, we are playing great football, off to the fleshpots of Napier in the sunshine- what could possibly go against us?

Answer- NOTHING!

The Mighty Phoenix  3.  The Sopwith Camels  0

Remember Feverites- we are the Mighty Phoenix! We can headline on Air Crash Investigation!

See you in the beautiful Hawke's Bay.

Nostalgia isnt what it used to be...........

I think getting the striker and the wide forwards right is probably Ernies biggest dilemma. Not just Hysugems/Brockie but whether Iffil starts..and I think he will.

The Welnix seem to be telling the media that if there is a good turnout more "home/ away" games can be expected.

Our pleas have been taken on board then.....

Can we have OUR Phoenix back please?

Seriously?

Do they not realise that there is a massive novelty factor in these games for those local crowds - if you do too many you lose that entirely and you lose the base in Wellington as well. It's a lose/lose situation.

I think there is a place for home/away games and I'm ok with a small number but they need to be very careful how they do it or risk lower crowds on all fronts.

I agree. It is good to have a couple of games a season regularly in a larger place (say Christchurch, Dunedin, or Auckland) - a single annual game in Christchurch is a fixture and is well supported. Spreading them out through provinces is a different story. I see it strictly as a one-off novelty factor with limited benefits. I agree that that it can easily wear thin regarding the Welly home base.

Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days

the other thing about the touring roadshow is how does it effect performance? Part of home ground advantage is being in familiar surroundings and not having to travel beforehand, which are 2 things we lose in these sort of games.

I've been to three "away" games in New Zealand, and in those, the Phoenix have scored four goals and conceded none, for a total of 9/9 points.

Piney tweeted that Ernie confirmed Iffy will start. So who drops to the bench, Kenny?

Permalink Permalink

If Iffil is to start, Kenny will be dropped surely. The big question is whether Ernie will start with Hicks or Huysegems? Plug the gaps in the midfield for a more conservative approach or go for an attacking line up at home to one of the favourites for the spoon?

Yep, not only that but the nix have to fly up (or bus this time) on Friday, then do promo work for 2 days before the game. Probably about as much effort as flying to Australia.

Allegedly

If you want novelty, then bouncy castles, face painting and lots of one-off shirts for charridy will do that.

Had hoped to be up there but unfortunately not to be.  Aiming for Akld for third year in a row.

I enjoy Home and Away games but three is one and a half too many.
