Brockie, or Hysugems, or both?

Ifill to start?

Question:

Fenton back from injury?

3 or 4 men midfield?

Hicks to start?

Our front combination?

At home, crappy opponent, 3 points for sure, i'll go for all attack 4-3-3

                           Moss

Fenton/Leo   Siggy     Dura      Caira

                  Lia             Manny

                          Carlos

         King          Brockie        Stein

Ifill on the bench for one more game, hopefully Kenny will have a good game.

Seemed to be a lack of service to Hysugems, Hicks looked really good, that being said I'd give Brockie and Hysugems another start together, Hysugems should be motivated as he seemed pretty pissed at getting subbed so early.

I'd keep Ifill for as a sub(a super sub at that).

Not sure Bertos will play if Fenton is fit :-)

Hicks is an injury replacement for Fenton so will have to be signed fully if we want to play both of them. I suspect Fenton might be given another week of full training before being rushed back.

You made me laugh - not with your selections  which sadly I think you will be correct with the latter, but with the names you have assigned some such as Lia.

Won't he have to if Fenton plays or is in the squad given he is an Injury replacement for Fenton ?

We're not a Sydney team so presumably, yes. (thanks to those who've pointed this out - I had no clue... shuddup).

Huysegems isn't really an impact player though- think he has to start or not at all...impact player should be someone who can make something happen with pace, passing or trickery...Not sure there is much point Huysegems being on the bench...

Im confused by it all really. My guess he has to be signed up to a full contract prior to the match (if Fenton returns).
He's certainly a good enough squad member and I think Ernie is keen to make it a full one.

You are probably right, but I can see Ernie holding Fenton back for another week to continue with a more extended look at Hicks

Major question to be answered....Will the miniature dancing Lion be at McLean Park?

Permalink Permalink

Prior to Hicks substitution, they were Shellshocked and looked really outclassed.

After Hicks substitution, they were a different team.  Yeah it was one game and there were other factors but what a great move by Ernie nonetheless.  I hope they sign him.

he was put out as Brisbane's mascot vs our chickens
chickens won that dance battle
air planes at Napier, warbirds over chooks, hardly seems fair, but I'm sure the chooks can do it

I actually felt the game changed as soon as the goal was scored. We pulled finger and they took the foot off a little. At that stage we gradually started getting back into it. But Hicks is a busy player who I think can improve a lot and I hope he is signed as well. My only concern is how unbalanced the squad is in terms of the number of attacking players.

Correct me if I am wrong, but it wasn't introducing Hicks but ending the Huysegems/Brockie pairing that made the WSW game shift for us. As others have already pointed out, Brockie was in the wrong position for him prior to that change.

Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days

If you recall an old Nick Park film ("Chicken Run") the chooks can fly pretty well - and the plane in that film crashed, but the chooks lived on to win the fight.

For mine it wasn't so much about Hicks the player but the fact we had an extra man in midfield. Hicks did a decent job, though.

I nearly wet myself reading the piece from Newcastle Herald on the home page:

http://www.theherald.com.au/story/1858459/jets-need-win-against-wellington/?cs=306

Clearly felt like desperation stuff. So, they have to be tough and win ugly because the 'Nix are a "physical team"?

Maybe they need to review their VCR tapes from last Sunday. Apart from the odd Manny Moment, and a few Siggy Scuffles, there was preciously little physicality - it was a surprisingly passing game. At moments I prayed for them to hoof it just to ease my nerves, but noooo...they were determined to play it out from the back.... it felt like a passing game the Brisbane Roar played in the opening round.

Shame that Heskey can't make the trip - the game will be poorer (for the Jets and for us alike) without his flash of brilliance.

I worry a bit when teams talk that. GVE will work his players up so much it could become very niggly and could boil over.

it's going to be a typical jets v nix game - there will be loads of yellow cards. the ref had better take control early or ifill and carlos are going to get hurt

Hopefully dura or Ernie or someone brings it up pre match, hopefully influence the refs a bit. A common tactic used overseas the old pre match press conference is

We're already a way better outfit than we were, even though we're clearly in need of more time together. My main worry re Sunday is getting hauled into a scrap. If Sigmund, Muscat and Lia take the bait, we'll probably lose with 9 men left on the field. Hard to see Ernie let that happen, though. They'll be expecting Newcastle to test our discipline with tackles flying in from all directions.

Brockie will feel he has a point to prove to these guys, didn't exactly leave the Jests on best of terms. Hopefully he gets stuck in

Really? Last time we played them in Newcastle I remember Brockie put a double past them, and should've had a hat trick.

No you're not wrong, but I think that taking out Huysegems so early and putting on basically an untested rookie proved to be a good move, and to me that's when the game changed.  I don't think Hicks took the team on his back but I was impressed with his play, but just my opinion.
